Newt 2012 Announces Leadership Team for Ohio

Release:
Columbus, OH – Newt 2012 announces, today, the lineup of its leadership team for Ohio with an impressive group of state political leaders with former Congressman Bob McEwen at the helm. He will lead the state's campaign effort by recruiting support throughout the state -- both politically and financially. Congressman McEwen was a member of the US House of Representatives in Southern Ohio’s Sixth district, and like Newt, he is "opposed to abortion, gun control, high taxes, and costly government programs."

The Buckeye leaders include some of the most outspoken political leaders in the state and include:

Doug Preisse has a background that combines more than two decades' experience in local, state, and national politics, as well as several years' experience in government service, consulting, and direct lobbying. Preisse's career includes a seven-year association with the Ohio Senate, where he served as a majority caucus staff member, legislative aide, and campaign manager for several successful elections. He has maintained a close association with senate members and staff by continuing to be involved in the political process. He currently serves as Chair of the Franklin County Republican Party and sits on the State Central Committee.

Representative John Adams is currently serving his third term at the Statehouse, where he was elected to serve as Majority Whip by fellow legislatures. He represents the 78th House District, which is comprised of Shelby and Champaign counties and part of Auglaize County. He is a member of the National Federation of Independent Business/Ohio (NFIB) and was also appointed to the NFIB/Ohio Leadership Council. Rep. Adams served as the chairperson of the annual Shelby County United Way Campaign, as president and member of the Board of Directors of the American Heart Association of Shelby County, and as vice president of the Shelby Rotary Club. After high school, he earned the honor of being selected to serve in the Navy SEALs.

Representative Mike Dovilla, a fourth-generation Ohioan, is a U.S. Navy officer, Iraq war veteran, and small business owner. He was elected State Representative in 2010 after knocking on 15,927 doors and is currently serving his first term representing the 18th House District in southwestern Cuyahoga County. Previously, Rep. Dovilla served as a Presidential appointee at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, a senior advisor to former U.S. Senator George V. Voinovich, and a Presidential Management Fellow at the U.S. Department of State.

Kay Ayers currently serves as Vice Chair of the ORP, where she is responsible for supporting the duties of the Chairman in addition to overseeing various party-building activities and outreach efforts, especially among women voters. Ayers also served as president of the Ohio Federation of Republican Women and as a vice chair for the National Federation of Republican Women.

Senator Bill Seitz is a lifelong resident of Western Hamilton County. He has worked to represent the best interests of the Greater Cincinnati area at the Statehouse and is known for his colorful floor speeches and legal acumen.

State Senator Gary Cates is the Senior Vice Chancellor for Innovation and Enterprise Development at the Ohio Board of Regents. Prior to his appointment to the Board of Regents, he was elected to serve two terms in the Ohio Senate, representing the people of Ohio’s 4th Senate District, which includes all of Butler County. While at the Senate, he served as chairman of the Education Committee and was a member of the Finance Committee, the State and Local Government and Veterans Affairs Committee, the Highways and Transportation Committee, and the Health and Human Services and Aging Committee. Before joining the Senate, Cates served four terms in the Ohio House of Representatives and was Speaker Pro Tempore – the chamber’s number-two leadership post – for two of those terms.

Representative Ron Maag is currently serving his second term at the Statehouse. He represents the 35th House District, which includes parts of Warren and Hamilton counties. Rep Maag is a 4-H advisor, as well as a long-time member of the National Rifle Association.

Rocky M. Boiman currently resides in Green Township, where he recently founded his small business, the Rocky Boiman Football Academy. While his eight year professional career in the National Football League has taken him many places, his heart has always remained in Green Township, where he has been a dedicated supporter of Republican and conservative causes. He has shown his support while serving as a Precinct Executive, Second Vice President of the Green Township Republican Club, and through his extensive support on numerous Hamilton County Republican candidates-- including Congressman Steve Chabot, Senator Rob Portman, and Hamilton County Commissioner Chris Monzel.

Doug Preisse said that “Newt Gingrich is a great American leader with a pro-growth strategy to put Americans back to work. I am supporting him because I know he will work to balance the budget and create jobs for Ohio and all Americans and create an energy policy that removes the government obstacles so we can realistically return to $2.50 a gallon for gas.

Newt responded by saying that “I look forward to working with this esteemed group of Ohio political leaders and will work with them to help ensure that we move our country forward to create an economic environment that benefits both families and businesses. I believe one of the first items on the agenda of a healthier economy is to create a responsible energy policy that results in $2.50 a gallon for gas.”

Niehaus Announces Application Process for 17th District Senate Seat

Release:
(Columbus) - Ohio Senate President Tom Niehaus (R-New Richmond) and Ross County Republican Party Chairwoman Diane Carnes announced today the application process to fill a vacancy in Ohio's 17th District Senate seat.

The 23-member Senate Republican Caucus is responsible for appointing a replacement to the seat; however, state law requires the seat to stand for election on the November general election ballot because the vacancy was created within 20 months of a resigning member's term. The candidate appearing on the ballot must be nominated by the central committee chairs and secretaries of the 10 county Republican parties in the district.

To ensure that both the appointee and the nominee are the same person, President Niehaus created a joint screening process between the Senate Republican Caucus and five of the district's county Republican Party chairs. The screening committee consists of the following members:

Senator Tom Niehaus, President (R-New Richmond)
Senator Keith Faber, President Pro Tempore (R-Celina)
Senator Tom Patton, Majority Floor Leader (R-Strongsville)
Senator Shannon Jones, Majority Whip (R-Springboro)
Senator Chris Widener, Senate Finance Committee Chairman (R-Springfield)
Chairwoman Diane Carnes, Ross County Republican Party
Chairwoman Kay Ayres, Highland County Republican Party
Chairman Ray Dutey, Lawrence County Republican Party
Chairman Geoffrey Phillips, Clinton County Republican Party
Chairman Jim Ward, Fayette County Republican Party

The Senate Republican Caucus will accept applications for the vacancy until noon on Friday, March 9. Applications should be sent or hand-delivered to the following address:

The Honorable Thomas E. Niehaus
President, Ohio Senate
The Ohio Statehouse
1 Capitol Square, Room 201
Columbus, OH 43215

Please send an identical copy of the application to the Senate chief of staff:

Jason Mauk
Chief of Staff, Ohio Senate
The Ohio Statehouse
1 Capitol Square, Room 205
Columbus, OH 43215

The candidate screening and selection process will likely take place on Saturday, March 24. The newly appointed member of the 17th District Senate seat will replace former Senator David Daniels, who recently accepted an appointment as director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

St. Rep. Combs Urges Stronger Action to Combat Rising Gas Prices

Release:
Columbus – State Representative Courtney Combs (R- Hamilton) today strongly urged federal and state leaders to take action to combat the threat posed to the economy and every American, by rising gas prices. With the price of gas now reaching an average of $3.45 per gallon, according to auto club AAA, the health of the economy may be in danger if action is not taken.

“Gasoline prices affect everything in our society, and higher prices can be devastating in many different facets of our lives” Combs said. “Whether it is citizens who can’t fill up their gas tanks to get to work, food costs going up because of the higher costs of shipping, or government budgets getting slammed because of higher maintenance costs for vehicles like garbage trucks, every person in Ohio, and across the country, is bearing the brunt of these high gas prices.”

At the state level, Rep. Combs called on state leaders like Governor Kasich and Attorney General DeWine to quickly settle issues relating to the taxation and regulation of Ohio’s booming natural gas industry. The Utica shale deposits, covering much of eastern Ohio, are considered ‘wet’ formations, meaning they contain oil as well as natural gas. Increasing the number of wells in the Utica would increase the domestic supply of oil, which would ease tight supplies that are increasing prices.

At the national level, Rep. Combs called on United States Congressman Steve Chabot, Speaker of the US House John Boehner, and President Obama to quickly enact legislation that would take advantage of domestic oil deposits outside of Ohio, and to reconsider the Keystone XL Pipeline. With new technologies advancing every day, offshore oil, deposits in Alaska that were previously untouchable, and new shale oil deposits in North Dakota can all be accessed. However, many of these projects are being stifled by government regulations. For example, the Keystone XL pipeline would not only have brought Canadian oil to American refineries, but also helped move oil from the Bakken formation in the Dakotas to refineries in Louisiana. By taking aggressive actions such as these, state and national leaders can help consumers fight the burden of high gas prices, and keep America’s economy moving.

Kasich Statement on School Shooting

Release:
COLUMBUS – Governor John R. Kasich issued the following statement this morning in response to the shooting at Chardon High School:

“Please join me in praying for the students who’ve been injured in this horrible crime. Praise goes to the Chardon Police and Geauga County Sheriff’s office for quickly getting this situation under control. I’ve pledged Ohio’s full support to them, the school and the local community in this difficult time.”

Update on the ORP vs. Team Kasich UN-Civil War

It is no secret that at the moment, I prefer the devil that we know, Kevin DeWine, at the helm at the Ohio Republican Party (ORP) because the names that I have heard from media that Team Kasich are considering as replacements would, in my opinion, make matters much worse (new problems, not the same old ones).

    BUT...

Bytor makes some very good points in this post.

After all the outrage after the last cycle, that the "new crew" at ORP would come up with the exact same strategies is more than a little suspect. This makes me think that Team Kasich has a point about Chairman DeWine and that instead of accepting the symbolic dismissal of the "old crew" at ORP, maybe Kevin should have been sent packing.

    These are unforced errors.

And again, I keep going back to the comments from ORP saying that defeating Obama and Brown are the top priorities, but if you look at how much ORP is spending on state central committee seats you can only come to one conclusion: Kevin DeWine thinks that his remaining as chairman is more important than defeating President Obama and/or Senator Brown.

And that is a sad truth...

Remember this when you get those mailers asking for even more money.....

Tea Partiers Endorse Client of Anti-Tea Party Mark Weaver

OK, the Tea Party in Ohio is officially dead. There, I said it. It has been killed by vendettas between individuals and leadership that thinks, like the evangelicals in the 2000s, that they are the only voice that matters. In a release, the Ohio Liberty Council chose to endorse Dr. Brad "I will say no money to abortions organizations on surveys but will give tons of money to Planned Parenthood on the Cincinnati Board of Health" Wenstrup. Tom Z, a guy I used to respect, sings the praises of someone who:
    1. lied to pro life groups about being against giving taxpayer dollars to any abortion agency under ANY circumstances
    2. used a George Soros attack group that has called Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, and tea partiers corrupt to besmirch Jean Schmidt
    3. Has lied at a county endorsement meeting about conversations about the abortion issue with a member of the central committee of said county
    4. Has used a friendly gesture by Schmidt toward Obama to make it seem like she supports Obama, when every time she meets the President that kiss is followed by "honor your promise to Piketon, Mr. President"
    5. Was such a poor steward of Public Money that Cincinnati lost a health grant they had had for the previous 30 years because of his poor management and the rest of teh board of health

Somehow, to Tom Z, who evidently walks on water and has never ever sinned, this is a conservative candidate. Here is Tom Z and the OLC's idiotic endorsement:
The Ohio Liberty Council today announced that it is endorsing Dr. Brad Wenstrup for Congress in the 2nd District Republican Primary on March 6th. The endorsement is based on the recommendation of three OLC member groups in the 2nd Congressional District including Liberty Alliance Cincinnati, Clermont County TEA Psarty, and Anderson TEA Party organizations.

In making the endorsement, Tom Zawistowski, President of the OLC, said “An important part of the TEA Party movement is taking the time and making the effort to personally meet candidates and evaluate them in order to determine who will best represent our communities. I congratulate our TEA Party member organization who have done just that and have decided that Dr. Wenstrup is the best candidate in the field. Dr. Wenstrup's commitment to our nation through his military service, and commitment to his community through his involvement with Big Brothers and Big Sisters and other local charities, are unquestioned. It is the opinion of the Ohio Liberty Council that the citizens of the 2nd Congressional District would be well served if they voted to send Dr. Wenstrup to Washington to represent our conservative, constitutionally based values. We urge all Republicans to vote for Dr. Wenstrup either by absentee ballot or in person on March 6th.”

In accepting the endorsement of the OLC, Dr. Wenstrup said "I'm proud to earn the support of Ohio Liberty Council. As a small business owner and doctor, I believe it's time for a new representative to go to Washington. Someone who will stand for conservative values. Someone who will fight for economic freedom. And someone who will demand real solutions, real growth and real jobs. I look forward to being a voice for conservatives across Southwestern Ohio."

Even if they are not pro life, I know of few conservatives who think giving TAXPAYER MONEY to planned parenthood is a good idea. Then you compound it with lies about there being NO OTHER provider of testing services. Compound that with his poor stewardship as well as his mudslinging ads, and I don't see a conservative. Tom Z and his little OLC have truly jumped the shark, and it is self important asshats like these who have taken the tea party movement in Ohio and made it a frigging joke. Now, let's throw this in..remember how the OLC and other tea partiers were gung ho about taking over Ohio's GOP State Central Committee? Guess who was hired and willingly slung mud on behalf of Kevin DeWine against the tea party? Mark Weaver, that's who. And guess who is getting paid by Weaver to engage in lies and distortion against Jean Schmidt? Mark Weaver! From campaign expenditure reports from Team Wenstrup:

    Communications Counsel, Inc.
37 West Broad Street, Suite 325
    Columbus, Ohio 43215
    10/03/2011 Invoice Wenstrup 22-1 $1800.00

    Communications Counsel, Inc.
37 West Broad Street, Suite 325
    Columbus, Ohio 43215
    10/09/2011 Consulting and Advertising - Period 9/2 $10199.60

    Communications Counsel, Inc.
37 West Broad Street, Suite 325
    Columbus, Ohio 43215
    11/22/2011 Consulting & Reimbursements - for period $4096.57

    Communications Counsel, Inc.
37 West Broad Street, Suite 325
    Columbus, Ohio 43215
    12/17/2011 Dec 2011 & Sub-Consulting $11381.02

IF the tea partiers would get their heads out of their arses and quit thinking every incumbent is evil, they would see that they are throwing in with the guy who destroyed their chance at any right to work legislation he also was working with Kevin DeWine when he shot down their chances to get Tpers on the State Central Committee.

The OLC has become nothing more than an anti-incumbency group, a fringe organization that if it has any hope of being worth a damn, needs to get rid of people so strident who think we need to get rid of one of the most conservative members of Congress from Ohio. Someone who has gotten high rankings from industrial and business groups, as well as family groups. And, Jean never ever used a Soros attack group to besmirch a fellow Republican. But, I guess all that matters to Tom Z and the folks at OLC is Brad wore a uniform, has a penis, and spews all their rhetoric with very little proof in the pudding.

I am saddened and disgusted, despite the opportunity to meet Herman Cain, to have ever gone to Tom Z's convention or be associated with it. If this is his idea of looking into a candidate, I suggest he revisit things a bit.

Now, let's look at Jean Schmidt:

_Endorsed by the NRA victory fund
_Endorsed by Ohio Right to Life PAC
_Family Research Council and Citizen Link 100% Rating
_Ohio Congresswoman Jean Schmidt (R-OH) received the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence
    _Americans for Prosperity 100% rating
_Campaign for Working Families 100% rating
_Endorsed by Cincinnati Right to Life PAC
    _Endorsed by Buckeye Firearms Association
_Congresswoman Jean Schmidt has been recognized as a ‘Taxpayer Hero’ by the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste.

I guess To Tom Z and the OLC, these organizations don't know what they are talking about...but I tend to go with organizations with actual track records over flashes in the pan any day of the week...But, your mileage may vary....

IER Analysis: Oil and Gas Production Down on Federal Lands in FY2011

WASHINGTON D.C. -- The Institute for Energy Research released today new analysis about oil and gas production on federal lands that further demonstrates the failure of Obama administration energy policies.

According to IER's analysis of available data, oil production on federal lands declined by 11 percent in FY2011, and natural gas production on federal lands declined by 6 percent.

Meanwhile, oil production on private and state lands increased by 14 percent and natural gas production on private and state lands increased by 12 percent.

Moreover, natural gas production on federal lands in FY2011 declined by 27 percent from FY2009 levels, when it peaked at 6.82 trillion cubic feet. During the same time period, natural gas production on state and private lands increased 28 percent. IER's analysis further demonstrates that FY2011 natural gas production on federal lands was the lowest volume since 2006.

For further details and analysis regarding oil and gas production on federal lands, read IER's full report by clicking here.

    Mark Weaver: Tool

The all knowing-all-seeing Mark Weaver is a tool. I've been saying it for years. Now we have definitive proof.

And Kevin DeWine is showing his true colors by associating with this clown.

No wonder people call the GOP the Stupid Party......

UPDATE: Since Communications Counsel is involved, one must now also question our old blogger friend Matt Dole as well... This is just bad news all around. For saying that defeating Obama and Brown is the most important thing, the ORP seems to be awfully focused on keeping Kevin DeWine's job for some reason.

Obamaville Looking More like Carter Corner

We had stagflation...now we are getting higher oil prices...and now we see more Americans are realizing just how much things suck under Obama....From US News and World Report:
t's February, nine months before a presidential election, and only 22 percent of Americans say they are satisfied with the way things are going. Voters haven't been this unhappy with the country since George H.W. Bush's presidency, when only 21 percent of Americans reported being happy with the country's direction. And before that, the lowest approval rating was 19 percent during Jimmy Carter's first term.

What do the two presidencies have in common? Neither of them won re-election. And, if the trends holds true, Obama looks to be in an equally precarious situation.

Please Lord, let not the American people be so stupid as to give this jerk another term! Please don't let us have become an entitlement victim society yet! Please Lord, tell me there are still enough people that realize Obamaville is the gutter to nowhere....
    The article continues:
The American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research released its 2012 campaign outlook, and it's clear Obama's sitting in the same position George H.W. Bush and Jimmy Carter were in during the February before their election losses—voters don't feel good about the country.

Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, and George W. Bush—presidents who won re-election—all had at least 41 percent of voters optimistic with the state of the union.

Obama is Carter's 2nd term. And if we give Carter a third term, we get Maoism or worse. The secular statist sharia practicioners need to get das boot. Send Carter 2.0 where he belongs: the scrapheap of history.....

Obama Administration Says High Gas All In Your Head, and He Didn't Refuse the Keystone Pipeline...

The unmitigated gall of this man....

First, we have this story from CBS news, about the dangerous gas price rise:
alk about pain at the pump! Some Florida drivers are spending nearly $6 a gallon to fill up their gas tanks.

According to GasBuddy.com, motorists are shelling out $5.89 for a gallon of regular gas at a Shell station in Lake Buena Vista, topping out at $5.99 a gallon for premium. It doesn’t get better at a Suncoast Energy station in Orlando, where drivers are paying $5.79 for a gallon of regular.

“Prices over in the Disney World area are much higher than any other place in Florida,” Jessica Brady, AAA spokeswoman, told CBS Tampa, adding that people regularly complain about gas prices in that area.

The Sunshine State is opening up its wallet, paying an average of $3.67 a gallon of unleaded gas, 12 cents more than the national average. And it’s only expected to go up.

“It doesn’t look like we will have relief at the pump anytime soon,” Brady told CBS Tampa. “I do think we will see prices surpass $4 a gallon. I think we will see that closer to spring time.”

And from FT.com, we have this:

Oil prices have soared to a record high in sterling terms and are approaching euro highs, raising fears that European countries struggling with heavy debts will face further barriers to economic recovery.

“This is a regional oil shock,” said Amrita Sen, commodities analyst at Barclays Capital in London.

    So much for recovery...

And even though people are really concerned about having to sell a kidney to get to work, Obama says media to blame over gas being HIGHER THAN IT EVER HAS BEEN AT THIS POINT IN A YEAR(http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2012/02/21/obama-to-talk-about-gasoline-prices-on-thursday/?mod=WSJBlog ):
Obama White House Says Rising Gas Prices Just “An Annual Affair Bolstered By Media Hysteria.” “The administration officials brushed off the brewing political storm over rising gas prices as an annual affair bolstered by media hysteria. They said the White House anticipated the current spike in gas prices, which they attribute to increased demand around the world, particularly from China.”

It would have NOTHING to do with his policies of hindering refinery expansion and production, or limiting and hindering oil exploration off the coasts, or his flirtation with corrupt green energy, or even refusing the Keystone Pipeline...But wait, in the height of thinking you are stupid, his press guy says, Barry didn't refuse the pipeline:
White House press secretary Jay Carney first says Republicans "forced" President Obama to deny the permit for the Keystone XL pipeline. Later in his press briefing, Carney says Obama didn't turn down the pipeline.

"In terms of Keystone, as you all know, the history here is pretty clear. And the fact is because Republicans decided to play political with Keystone, their action essentially forced the administration to deny the permit process because they insisted on a time frame in which it was impossible to completely approve the pipeline," Carney said when asked about the pipeline by ABC News' Jake Tapper.

Later in the briefing, Carney says it is the Republicans' fault.

Jake Tapper: "How can you say that you have an all the above on approach if the President turned down the Keystone pipeline? And you blame the Republicans for making it political."

Carney: "But the President didn't turn down the Keystone pipeline. There was a process in place, with long precedent, run out of the State Department because of the issue of the pipeline crossing an international boundary, that required an amount of time for proper for review after an alternate route was deemed necessary through Nebraska at the request of the Republican Governor of Nebraska and other stakeholders in Nebraska and the region that needed to play out, to be done appropriately. You can't review and approve a pipeline, the route for which doesn't even exist.

It is never Obama's fault. He is the no responsibility President. Nothing is ever his fault or problem. It is always the other guy. Sorry, Barry, but you own this economy. Your own people have said it already. This is your problem now. And wasting our tax dollars on solyndra and other megafails isn't going to help. Drill here, drill now, pay less. Nuff said.

1984 in 2012: Dems Seeking to Buy Press

Remember when Rush Limbaugh wasn't allowed to buy into the Saint Louis Rams because it would make a "political statement"? All the Left screamed and hollered that Rush involved in the NFL would lead to a new platform for conservatism and it wasn't fair. Remember how the Left said that Fox was the Republican channel, and that it was totally slanted? Shouldn't these same people be upset about this:
Philadelphia’s two daily newspapers have long been accused of liberal bias, but critics say a group of potential buyers led by former Gov. Ed Rendell would turn the papers into mere mouthpieces of the Democratic Party in a 2012 swing state.

Mr. Rendell, a former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, is teaming with George Norcross, the Democratic Party boss of southern New Jersey, and others in an effort to purchase the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Daily News and the company’s website, philly.com. “The prospect of Rendell’s group owning the newspapers is like the foxes watching the henhouse and all of the sacred cows,” said Paul Davies, former deputy editorial page editor at the Inquirer. “Essentially, the Inquirer will cease to exist as a legitimate newspaper. It will become the insiders’ house organ.”

And no way they would try to slant all their coverage, would they? Seriously, this is disturbing...but typical of liberals.

Even the liberal journalists are worried that Easy Eddie is going to try to create his own echo chamber:
Journalists at both papers are so concerned that nearly 300 of them signed a public statement last week calling on the current and any future owners to protect the integrity of their reporting. They said the current owner, Philadelphia Media Network (PMN), has censored their coverage of the sale.

“As The Philadelphia Inquirer, Daily News and Philly.com have gone up for sale once again, we watched with dismay as our own coverage of the process was compromised and censored,” the statement says.

    IER on Rising Gas Prices

    Release:
WASHINGTON D.C. -- With gasoline prices at record seasonal highs and the price of oil topping $120 a barrel, IER President Thomas Pyle released the following statement:

"By any measure, the current policies governing America's energy development have failed. The past three years have been marked by cancelled lease sales for the Outer Continental Shelf, moratorium on offshore drilling, the closing of millions of acres public lands for energy development, and the rise of regulatory regime that openly favors expensive, intermittent energy sources over proven, affordable ones -- all with taxpayer dollars.

"The evidence of these failed policies is obvious. For the second time in the last year, the price of gasoline has topped $3.50 per gallon nationally. The prices of goods we need everyday -- from the food we eat to the tires we put on our cars -- are skyrocketing. Meanwhile, government policy still prohibits robust development of the vast energy resources under our feet.

"Permitting activity for offshore production is all but dead. Deepwater permits have declined by 57 percent last year. Similarly, shallow water permits have dropped by 68 percent. And for those permits that are granted, the average approval time now takes 31 days longer than the historical average of 60.6 days.

"The President's FY2012 Budget, released this week, indicates the administration's intention to extend these policies. By further restricting leasing activity on the Outer Continental Shelf, by increasing energy taxes, and by spending hundreds of millions of dollars for more government land acquisition, the Obama administration has drafted a plan that intensifies our economic vulnerability and takes more money out of our pockets to fund his failed green energy schemes.

"The American people deserve policies that help them out of tough economic times. It's time to end President Obama's punitive energy agenda that retaliates against working families who depend on affordable energy to make it. The only solution is to reverse course, open up our lands to energy development, and stop the regulatory abuse that is driving up the price of fuels."

66thOHD: Owens Endorsed by Ohio ProLife Action

    Release:
Batavia Township – On Wednesday, February 15th, Ohio ProLife Action issued endorsements for the Ohio General Assembly for the primary election to be held on March 6th. Ohio ProLife Action endorsed Republican candidate Nick Owens for the 66th District of the Ohio House of Representatives. Nick Owens was the only candidate to be endorsed by Ohio ProLife Action for the 66th District of the Ohio House of Representatives.

Founded in 2011, Ohio ProLife Action’s mission is to provide representation, leadership and support to the Pro Life movement in Ohio and to public officials and candidates who courageously work for the protection of innocent human life in the public arena. Ohio ProLife Action is the state’s leading advocacy group for the passage of House Bill 125, commonly known as the Heartbeat Bill.

“As a first time candidate for public office, I am absolutely honored and humbled to receive the endorsement of Ohio ProLife Action. In a very brief period of time, Ohio ProLife Action has become a leading voice for the unborn in the State of Ohio. Like Ohio ProLife Action, I hope the Ohio Senate promptly brings the Heartbeat Bill to the floor for a vote. The passage of the Heartbeat Bill will immediately save lives of the unborn. We cannot wait any longer,” stated Republican candidate Nick Owens.

“Further, it is easy for candidates and politicians to say they are Pro Life. Unfortunately, at times this empty rhetoric to simply get elected. This is not the case for me. I am Pro Life because it is the fabric of my being,” continued Republican candidate Nick Owens.

“I believe my personal story would give the Pro Life community a very persuasive voice for the sanctity of life in the Ohio House of Representatives. My mother chose life when she was just seventeen years old. I am thankful everyday for my mother’s decision to give me the gift of life. My mother delivering me at such a young age has given me the perspective of what it means to be Pro Life in Ohio and the United States. With every abortion is another lost gift and miracle to our communities, Nation, and World,” stated Owens.

Nick Owens is the only candidate for the 66th District of the Ohio House of Representatives to be endorsed by the Ohio Right to Life PAC, Ohio ProLife Action, Fraternal Order of Police Ohio Valley Lodge 112, and the Citizens for Community Values Action PAC.

Sherrod Brown's Priorities Don't Include Paying Taxes Until Caught

Check out this Human Events story...

Once again, we see evidence that liberal elites like Sherrod Brown think that paying taxes is for the little people. Had he not been caught, does anybody believe that Senator Brown would have done what the rest of us are forced to do? Paying your taxes is patriotic, right? Why, then, does Sherrod Brown hate his country so? Is he taking his lead from President Obama???

    UPDATE: A few more details...

    TOTAL OWED TO D.C.: $922.04

  • $892 Is Brown’s Balance

  • $76 Is Brown’s Penalty For Being Late

  • $46 Is The Interest On Brown’s Balanced

  • From failing to represent the best interests of Ohio families, to evading taxes, it turns out the only responsibility Sherrod Brown is embracing these days is supporting Barack Obama's policies ninety-five percent of the time.

UPDATE: The age-old "I misplaced the bill and forget about it" defense. Think that would work for you or me?

Ohio House Passes Legislation to Give APNs Additional Authority to Prescribe Medications

    Release:
COLUMBUS—Chairman of the House Health and Aging Committee Lynn Wachtmann (R-Napoleon) has announced that the Ohio House today passed legislation to increase the ability of advanced practice nurses (APNs) to prescribe schedule II medications in certain settings while ensuring patient protection.

Currently, APNs have the authority to prescribe medications for terminally ill patients for a 24-hour supply only after the collaborating physician has initially prescribed the drug. Senate Bill 83 removes these limitations for APNs and allows them to prescribe in certain locations, including hospitals, health care facilities operated by the Department of Mental Health or the Department of Developmental Disabilities, or a nursing home. It also grants the Board of Nursing the authority to discipline nurses who self-administer schedule I controlled substances.

“Advanced practice nurses go through years of education and clinical training, and they are qualified to safely prescribe medications that will provide quick pain management for patients,” Rep. Wachtmann said.

Within the state of Ohio, APNs undergo extensive training in pharmacology to prepare them to be responsible prescribers of schedule II medications. APNs have been prescribing schedule II medications under certain conditions since 2002.

Senate Bill 83 will now be sent back to the Senate for concurrence.

West Chester Tea Party Candidate Forum -- Liveblog

I'll be reporting tonight from the West Chester Tea Party Candidate Forum moderated by George Lang from 6:30 - 9:30 PM tonight (or until I am exhausted and have to leave).

Hoping to be able to do some liveblogging, so check that out below if we're successful.

If the liveblogging thing doesn't work, I'll report what I can tomorrow. We should also have video of the event as well.

2/10 UPDATE: What do I think? Both incumbents did what they needed to do. Mary Swain fended off the attacks fairly well. Jeff Wyrick stated his case as well as he could, but I personally didn't care for his style.

Chuck Furmon turned in his usual professional job answering questions about the situation the county finds itself with his usual sober truth. Corky Combs handles the crowd better, but really failed to land any punches. TC Rogers is not ready for prime time.

The big news of the night was Democrat Jodi Billerman. She's in the wrong party. Fiscally conservative (except for SB5/Issue 2, but I suspect that has more to do with the D at the end of her name than anything else. She continued to hammer SB5 for things that weren't in the final bill. I hate it when Democrats do that...) Her experience in the PR field makes her the smoothest candidate on the stage and if she gets any kind of traction in the general election campaign she might be tough to beat.

In the end, it was great to see so many candidates come out and face the electorate; but, I didn't see any real game changers.

UPDATE 2: Oxford Press take can be found here. I know that Howard Wilkinson of the Enquirer was there, but haven't run across his write-up (if there was one) as of yet.

UPDATE 3: Video for the Clerk session is here.

Speaker Batchelder Releases Statement on Senate Introduction of Legislation to Repeal House Bill 194

      Release:
COLUMBUS—Speaker of the Ohio House William G. Batchelder (R-Medina) today issued the following statement following the introduction of Senate Bill 295, which would repeal House Bill 194:

“Similar to the way my friends in the Senate were surprised to learn of the Secretary of State’s support for repeal of our election reform bill, I too was surprised to learn that the Senate is moving forward with legislation to repeal House Bill 194. While there have been ongoing discussions with the Senate leadership on this issue, there has been no consensus or agreement, from my perspective, on whether outright repeal of the legislation was the most prudent course of action.

“As I have previously made clear, there is no precedent for repeal of legislation that has not taken effect due to potential voter referendum. As such, it is possible that the passage of Senate Bill 295 may be unconstitutional.

“The goal of this caucus has always been protecting the integrity of our elections in Ohio and ensuring our boards of elections can operate in a streamlined, cost-effective way. Regardless of the final course of action on House Bill 194, the introduction of this new bill will not deter the members of the Ohio House of Representatives from further reviewing the next steps, and we look forward to doing just that with our friends and colleagues in the Ohio Senate.”

Niehaus Announces Senate Majority Staff Additions

      Release:
(Columbus) - Ohio Senate President Tom Niehaus (R-New Richmond) announced today several new additions to the majority caucus staff.

Angela Meleca has been named press secretary for the majority caucus and spokesman for the President of the Senate. She brings to the position more than two decades of communications experience, including her role as managing editor and Statehouse bureau chief for the Ohio News Network. She most recently served as a media and public relations consultant, as well as vice president of public relations for a Columbus-based architecture firm. She previously served as public relations manager for Cardinal Health and helped develop two internet start-up companies specializing in state and local government. She is a graduate of The Ohio State University.

Kevin Bingle has joined the caucus staff as director of digital media. Kevin will oversee efforts to modernize and improve the Senate's constituent communications infrastructure, including websites, social media, email and video technologies. He recently worked as a campaign manager and digital media strategist on several local, legislative and statewide campaigns, including Governor John Kasich's successful gubernatorial effort in 2010. Kevin is a graduate of The Ohio State University.

Donn Parsons has been named deputy legal counsel for the majority caucus. Donn will assist chief legal counsel Frank Strigari, as well as helping to oversee policy development for the Judiciary and Government Oversight committees. He most recently served as a senior research assistant at the University of Chicago Law School. He previously worked as an aide to United States Attorney General John Ashcroft and as an honors associate for the Securities & Exchange Commission. He also worked as deputy director of government affairs at the American Center for Law & Justice. He received his undergraduate degree from Emory University and his law degree from the University of Minnesota School of Law.

NRA Political Victory Fund endorses U.S. Rep. Jean Schmidt

      Release:
The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund has endorsed Congresswoman Jean Schmidt in the Republican primary election on March 6.

"We urge our members, gun owners, and sportsmen in Ohio to vote for you," James J. Baker, director of federal affairs for the NRA Political Victory Fund, wrote in a Feb. 7 letter to Congresswoman Schmidt. "Based on your solid and consistent pro-gun voting record, you have earned an 'A' rating from the NRA-PVF."

Congresswoman Schmidt, a Clermont County Republican who represents Ohio's Second District, said she was honored to receive the endorsement.

"I'm one of about 4 million members of the NRA, so I'm especially pleased to receive the support of the NRA Political Victory Fund," Congresswoman Schmidt said. "I'm proud to represent the interests of gun owners. I grew up on a farm and learned to shoot a gun at an early age. I have first-hand knowledge of the issues that arise in Congress because I'm licensed to carry a concealed handgun in Ohio, and I've participated in tactical defense training."

Before becoming the first woman elected to represent Southern Ohio in the U.S. House, Congresswoman Schmidt was a lawmaker in the Ohio General Assembly. There, she fought for passage of legislation to allow Ohioans the right to carry concealed weapons.

"Thank you for your unwavering support of the Second Amendment," Baker wrote on behalf of the NRA Political Victory Fund.

Congresswoman Schmidt has also been endorsed by the Buckeye Firearms Association, a grassroots political action committee dedicated to defending and advancing the right of Ohioans to own and use firearms for all legal activities, including self-defense and hunting.

Niehaus Statement on Repeal of Election Reform Bill

      Release:
(Columbus) - Ohio Senate President Tom Niehaus issued the following statement on Senate Bill 295, a bill introduced today by Senator Bill Coley (R-Liberty Township) that would repeal an elections reform bill now subject to referendum:

"Late last year, several of our members began exploring the idea of repealing House Bill 194. We passed that bill in an effort to provide local elections officials with the clear guidelines they needed to fairly and effectively manage the upcoming presidential contest. Unfortunately, the reforms we enacted won't be available for the 2012 election due to a referendum on the bill, so we made the decision to take a step back and revisit the debate in hopes of reaching a more bipartisan consensus.

We established two years ago a framework of compromise between Republicans and Democrats on a set of reforms that all sides agreed were critical to the integrity of our elections process. I've asked our members to use that as a foundation from which to build a new reform effort. Some changes can likely wait until after the November election, but others are needed this year to provide clarity in advance of one of the largest turnout elections Ohio will face in this decade.

I recognize that partisan supporters of the referendum are now arguing against a repeal after publicly supporting the idea. I'm left to assume they've been ordered by partisan operatives to reverse their position and keep this on the ballot in an effort to incite their base of supporters in a presidential election. They should put aside the hyper-partisan press conferences and join us in discussing a responsible compromise, and we can start with the agreements they've already made. I look forward to the dialogue."

Update and Corrected: Dr. Brad Wenstrup Must Have Thought They Said Hypocrite Oath Instead of Hippocratic...

      Here's why....

But then why did he do this?????

      Cincinnati Board of Health

      Board of Health Meeting

      May 24, 2011

Dr. Wael Safi, Chairperson, Board of Health called the May 24, 2011 meeting of the

Cincinnati Board of Health to order at 6:15 p.m.

      ROLL CALL

Board members present: Ms. Joyce Kinley, Dr. Jeff Lange, Dr. Wael Safi, Dr. Richard

Schwen, Dr. Donna Shambley-Ebron (left at 7:40) and Dr. Brad Wenstrup,

Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio—Sub-grantee award (Attachment

      No. 9)

      Up to $85,000 June 1, 2011-December 31, 2011

The Health Department is requesting reallocation of funding from Stop

AIDS, which is defunded from the state. The funds will go to Planned

Parenthood for HIV/AIDS prevention. The funds will be strictly used for

HIV/AIDS testing and prevention. The same health counselors from Stop

AIDS will be working for Planned Parenthood .

“That the Board approve the subgrant of up to $85,000 to Planned

Parenthood of Southwest Ohio with remaining funds from grant awarded

to Stop AIDS for HIV/AIDS prevention.”

      Second:

      Discussion: Dr. Lange

Vote/Action: Motion passes unanimously and is approved.

Last time I looked, Planned Parenthood does abortions and promotes abortions.. As an aside, they also have been accused of covering up child rape. Just sayin'. And, this appears to satisfy ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Therefore, is Dr. Brad:
      A)illiterate
      B)untruthful
C)didn't read the question and understand it fully, showing he doesn't do due dilligence in filling out paperwork, like, you know, when under his tenure Cincinnati lost a health grant they had previously held for 30 years due to bad stewardship?

Whichever it is, it means he shouldn't be representing us in the 2nd district. Unethical, illiterate, poor stewardship.....Not getting my vote....

And his buddies in COAST are not blameless either:
Despite a claimed fiscal crisis, on Monday of this week liberal democrats Todd Portune and David Pepper voted to approve funding of Planned Parenthood to the tune of $26,255. COAST joined Cincinnati Right to Life and Citizens for Community Values in e-mailing their members against this misuse of tax funds. An outcry from more than 1,500 residents nearly closed down business in the County administrative offices with calls and e-mails.

Posted by COAST at 10/24/2008 07:01:00 AM

Why are they not blameless? Because this supposed fiscal conservative group endorsed Brad Wenstrup for Congress....

      Nuff said....

Archie Wilson, Clermont County Tea Party, and..... Brad Wenstrup?

WMD received an email from a source with some commentary regarding this FOX19 article about the latest fiasco dealing with Republicans Behaving Badly (and yes we have a new label/tag for this sort of thing)...

In the 2010 race for County Commissioner, it was Archie Wilson and the Tea Party against incumbent Commissioner Scott Croswell and "the establishment". The race became pretty vicious, especially when Archie and the Tea Party spread rumors that Scott Croswell had cheated on his wife, which makes these current allegations all that more ironic. (The woman in question turned out to be...his wife..)

The Clermont County Tea Party (who are much more extreme than any other local Tea Party) did everything they could to support Archie Wilson, and it will be interesting to see what affect that has on their credibility. From the folks I've talked to, there certainly appears to be some outrage towards the Clermont County Tea Party for being so blinded by hate that their judgement became so clouded. Will the Tea Party attempt to sweep this under the rug or will they take responsibility and apologize to the constituents of Clermont County who were convinced Archie was a true Conservative?

An additional interesting note is that Archie Wilson was Brad Wenstrup's biggest supporter in Clermont County. Brad was Archie's guest at a number of Republican events last year and Archie had been doing everything he could to help get Brad elected. There is still some question about how Archie managed to obtain the prescription pain medication, and if Brad is in anyway roped into this scandal, it's fair to say his political career is over (if it wasn't over before he become entrenched in COAST).

There are still more shocking details about this story that will come out soon, but the citizens of Clermont County ought to be outraged that they were led to believe Archie was a Conservative. It appears he was anything but.
This is BAD all over...and as our correspondent said, there will be MORE to this story as it develops.
