Powell to Kerry: Name Names or Move On

From Yahoo News:
Secretary of State Colin Powell on Sunday challenged Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry to name the foreign leaders whom the Massachusetts senator claims want him as the next U.S. president.

Kerry, the all-but-certain Democratic presidential nominee, said at a fund-raiser last week in Florida that he's heard from some world leaders who quietly back his candidacy and hope he defeats President Bush in November.

Powell expressed skepticism on "Fox News Sunday" when asked about Kerry's assertion.

"I don't know what foreign leaders Senator Kerry is talking about. It's an easy charge, an easy assertion to make. But if he feels it is that important an assertion to make, he ought to list some names," Powell said. "If he can't list names, then perhaps he should find something else to talk about."

Matt's Chat

Mr. Kerry, you are such a brave man making all these assertions with no evidence of support. Does that make you a liar?

Personally, I don't think the viewpoint of other countries should have any role in American politics. We elect leaders in this country to represent US, not France, Iran, North Korea, China, the UN or anybody else. Could it be, Mr. Kerry, that you are playing the World Community Card (tm) or the Internationalist Card (tm) to try and bring in financial support from people who aren't Americans? Wouldn't that be unethical? Wouldn't we rather have a president who places the American agenda above and beyond the so-called world agenda? I'm just asking...

Mr. Powell's performance as Secretary of State has been amazing. Here is a guy who has a tough job: he has to assert American policy on the world stage where the jealousies and machinations of other nations come in to play. At one point, I had lost some of my faith in Mr. Powell; but he has recovered that faith in the last couple of years. I think Mr. Powell brings a lot to the table for the Bush administration and vice versa. He is a great fit with the Bush team.

Mark's Remarks

Mr. Kerry, you should take notes from Mr. Powell. This is a man who was a many decorated general, and who also served heroically in Vietnam (but you don't hear him broadcasting that every five minutes do you?) His military accomplishments speak for themselves, which seems to be different than how you feel about your own military accomplishments (I'm John Kerry, did you know I was a war hero?). I am so proud of Mr. Powell taking up the defense of his Commander In Chief the way he is. And he is right. Mr. Kerry, either name names or take a long swig of "Shut Up Juice" (tm) and shut the hell up.

Besides, it does not matter what Kim Jong Il (who has endorsed Kerry by playing all his speeches on N. Korean media services, which Kim controls) or the latest Ayatollah in Iran thinks (he has endorsed Kerry as well). What matters is American interests. Mr. Kerry, you do not serve the world community, you blithering spineless poor substitute for a leader. YOU WOULD BE SERVING AMERICA AND HER INTERESTS. THAT IS WHAT A PRESIDENT DOES, AND THAT IS WHAT GW BUSH HAS BEEN DOING. While you, Mr. Kerry, are out trying to court the French, the North Koreans, the Iranians, and al Queda; this President is working hard for America and Americans. I hope and I pray that Americans see this for what it is: Kerry is continuing his policy of betraying America's Interests: he did it when he came home from Vietnam, he did it while we were fighting the Cold War; he did it by voting for a war BUT NOT FUNDING IT, and he continues to do it by flip flopping on every issue and having no moral fiber, much less spinal fiber.
