I have no idea if they still do this or not, but when I was sworn in as Chief Justice of the Northern Kentucky University Student Government Judiciary Council, the oath contained a bit about having never participated in or acted as a second in a duel. It had to do with Kentucky politicans having engaged in such duels as a method of politicking in the "old days." I thought it was stupid...but I had never contemplated participating in a duel or acting as a second while I was in office.
And trust me, there were plenty of chances...NKU politics being what it was (is?)...
