Changing the Names Isn't Cleaning House

As regular readers know, I've been on the warpath against corruption in the GOP for quite some time. Every now and then, we get reassurances from Republican sources that they have heard the message and are cleaning up their mess. But I can't help but think that the message may have been delivered, but not heeded, when I see stories like these which I now present to you...

In Tom DeLay's old district, TX-22, there is a Dee-Cee-backed "establishment" type of candidate with connections to Abramoff and Duke Cunningham. This guy is so about Republican ideals that he is sending campaign literature to ultra-liberal Democrat "seniors"... Pete Olson claims to be from the district, but clearly his time away from the district (he served in the Navy and as a Senate staffer) has put him out of touch with Republicans in the district.

Right here in Ohio, we have a Highland County Common Please Court judge by the name of Jeffrey Haskins that the state disciplinary board has suggested be permanently disbarred. He had the gall to think he deserved a second chance and was planning to run for another term. Oh, sure, he was aquitted of some charges...and some other charges were dismissed...but if the state board wants him disbarred, there IS a reason for it. The nine-count ethics complaint might have something to do with it...

If the GOP continues to support people like this, or replace them with worse, the party will never reclaim its dignity. I don't know how many more times I'll have to give this speech, but I'll keep doing it. On that, you can rest assured...
