RELEASE: Rep. Schmidt Joins Call to Defund ACORN

Release:
Washington D.C. – Congresswoman Jean Schmidt [yesterday] joined Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH-08) in calling for the complete de-funding of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). Schmidt also called for a full Department of Justice investigation to determine if ACORN’s repeated illegal attempts to influence U.S. elections can be prosecuted under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO Act).

“The most sacred franchise we have as American citizens is idea of one-person, one-vote,” said Congresswoman Schmidt. “Whether you are the richest person or the poorest person, we all are equal in the voting booth,” she added. “When people, like those at ACORN, try to illegally break that trust, we must act swiftly and to the fullest extent of the law.”

ACORN is being investigated in numerous states for activities that involve fraudulent voter registrations including here in Ohio . Fraudulent voter registration forms linked to ACORN have been found in several counties in Ohio.

“It is unconscionable that the federal government is handing millions of dollars of taxpayer money to an organization that would so blatantly attempt to violate U.S. and state election laws,” said Schmidt.
We at WMD stand with Republican Leader, my Congressman and a Great American -- John Boehner -- and Rep. Jean Schmidt on this issue. It is time to defund ACORN and start the RICO investigation.
