Political BlogAds

Here is a story about Kentucky's new Congressman and his use of BlogAds to raise funds.

Another hat tip to InstaPundit, Glenn Reynolds.

Matt's Chat

Now, I think this is great for bloggers. But there is something that disturbs me about the effect this has on politics.

Why should somebody in California be able to give money to a guy who is running for a seat in Kentucky? What sort of influence does that buy? And shouldn't the people of Kentucky have a say? I mean, really, if the people of Kentucky didn't support this guy with their wallets; should he really be representing them in Congress?

Just asking... (and not because he's a Democrat. This is the sort of thing that campaign finance reform should really be focusing on, in my opinion.)

Mark's Remarks

Indeed, McCain-Feingold does nothing to stop this kind of out of state pandering for a candidate. It punishes people who want to talk about the issues, but it does nothing for people who have no interest in a state to merely advance the candidate of their party merely because that person has the same letter after their name that the donor does.

We need real campaign finance reform, not the silencing of groups based on issues. We need to curtail this type of out of state giving, as well as the shady shadow recesses of the Dimocraps like Moron.org, er...excuse me...Moveon.org...(what an interesting name, since Dims and libs have never been able to move on from Vietnam....they are trying to bring it back 30 years later....wow, talk about hypocritical, eh?)
