MN Chief Republican Indicted

The head of the Minnesota Republican Party has been indicted by a grand jury for an alleged improper corporate campaign contribution, his lawyer said.

Chairman Ron Eibensteiner was charged with four gross misdemeanor criminal counts, his lawyer, Bill Mauzy, said Thursday.

Mauzy said there was no basis for the indictment and that he would move immediately to have the charges dismissed. "There is no crime here," he said. "We have a runaway grand jury."

Eibensteiner called the indictment "preposterous."

Matt's Chat

Behind the WMD scenes, Mark G. and I have been discussing the value of "taking the high road" and just what exactly that means. For me, it means that we (and I mean conservatives) must have a highly developed sense of ethics and standards. Should these charges turn out to be true, I would expect that conservatives would stand behind the full execution of the law, regardless of the accused's political affiliation. Who's with me?

Mark's Remarks

I wholeheartedly agree. To me, if there is such malefeasance, then a debt is owed to society. You will not see me pulling a Charlie Schumer and having my blinders on, as he did for eight years of non-stop scandal, even as today one minor story (See Spy Games Threads) he has tried to turn into a crusade of righteousness, when in reality it is nothing more than an attempted hatchet job for political gain. We will be keeping an eye on this story, to be sure, to see what happens with Mr. Eibensteiner. Of course, who knows, the grand jury may be crazy....after all, they did elect Jesse Ventura.... : )
