Fast and Furious Update: McCain Joins the Party...Late as Usual....

Senator John McCain, he who wants some bit of spotlight in his rather dim career, has jumped on the bandwagon in calling for more investigation of Operation Fast and Furious. Check it out:

Arizona Senator John McCain has requested a special U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing to address issues pertaining to the controversial Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' controversial Fast and Furious case.

In a letter addressed to committee chairman, Sen. Joseph Lieberman, dated September 7, 2011, Sen. McCain requested a hearing in which the Attorney General of the United States, the Secretary of Homeland Security, and the Acting Director of the ATF are called to testify.

“Last week additional information was released concerning Operation Fast & Furious that raises yet more questions over the decision making process behind the operation,” he wrote in his letter.

“I request the Committee hold a hearing as soon as possible to examine these new revelations and determine what additional measures are needed to help prevent this type of malfeasance from occurring again.”

Gee, Senator, where were you when Issa in the House and Grassley in the Senate were screaming about this from the rooftops? Where was your investigative spirit then? Gee, could it only be now that alot of the heavy lifting has been done that you get involved. I am not impressed.

John McCain Hearts Russ Feingold 4ever

The proAmnesty, proBailout, middle of the road failed Presidential candidate in not one but two elections, one being the debacle that gave us Barack Obama, loves him some Russ Feingold....cue Lionel Ritchie and Diana Ross's Endless Love:

McCain: “Without intending it as a commentary on his successor, I have to confess, I think the Senate will be a much poorer place without Russ Feingold in it… I don’t think he is replaceable.”

Um, the voters of Wisconsin would tend to disagree, and if someone reputable would run against you in a primary, I am sure Arizona voters would like to send you to the unemployment line to be with Russ forevermore, you pompous, fake, self congratulating idiot. The only reason most people voted for you was because you weren't Obama. Obamalite and old, but not Obama. Just waiting for you to show you lied to AZ voters regarding your epiphany concerning illegal immigration.

DeWine Firing and Hiring: What's Next to Go? The Barbershop Quartet?

Mike DeWine's big comeback appears to be in trouble. The Ohio blogosphere is abuzz with confirmed reports that Mike the Fink has fired his political consultant, Jon Seaton. Who is Jon Seaton? Well, he was a DC based consultant who was a former national field director for failed presidential candidate John McCain. He will be leaving the DeWine campaign at the end of the year. One wonders why this magical pairing has separated? Could Mikey not be able to afford paying Seaton's bill? Could Seaton have realized the Fink is dead in the water? Is Mike cutting costs to keep the barbershop quartet going?

Isn't it telling, however, that Mike's big consultant was DC based, and not Ohio based? I wonder if Seaton ever came to Ohio? I wonder if he ever made any trips through Ohio? Mikey sure doesn't seem to be campaigning too much. He just wants everyone to come to him and suck up some free ice cream and somehow that is supposed to make his miserable failure of a tenure in the Senate go away. He has not been asking for votes. In fact, he hasn't even asked people to be on his mailing lists. No, instead he just took his old McCain mailing lists and automatically ASSumed they would be followers of him. Same old arrogance. Same old Mike DeWine.

Stepping into the breach as Mike the Fink's chief political consultant will be the all seeing all knowing campaign sign hating Mark Weaver. I know, I know, this is amazing. This is the same guy who lifted slightly less liberal Betty Montgomery on his spindly shoulders and engineered her victory....FIFTEEN YEARS AGO. Woohoo! Way to be on the cutting edge Mikey boy! Weaver has some great people working for him, even if he is an arrogant, self serving egomaniac, though he is talented.

Look, it doesn't matter who Mike the Fink gets. He doesn't think he should campaign. He thinks he should be coronated. How much real travelling and shoe leather has he worn out? Not as much as Dave Yost.

Dave has also worked very hard at winning the hearts and minds of Ohioans. He has attended 46 Lincoln Day Dinners, visited over 60 counties and is endorsed by more than 70 percent of Ohio’s GOP county prosecutors. Dave also writes frequently on his blog, letting his views be known. Mike DeWine has mostly just talked to special interest groups and party insiders. Dave Yost has been pounding the pavement.

Let's review a little bit about Mike DeWine, shall we:

Failed to support drilling in Alaska (ANWR). Domestic energy exploration is critical to national security and the economy.

· Failed to support 2nd Amendment rights (Endorsed by the Brady Campaign.) And named to the top 10 list of anti-gun senators by Human Events.

o Voted NO on prohibiting lawsuits against gun manufacturers. (Jul 2005)

o Voted NO on banning lawsuits against gun manufacturers for gun violence. (Mar 2004)

o Voted YES on background checks at gun shows. (May 1999)

o Voted NO on more penalties for gun & drug violations. (May 1999)

o Voted NO on loosening license & background checks at gun shows. (May 1999)

o Voted NO on maintaining current law: guns sold without trigger locks. (Jul 1998)

· Failed to support conservative judges by joining the gang of 14 who supported the Democrat filibusters. Several conservative appellate court nominees “got thrown under the bus” (Miguel Estrada, Charles Pickering, Carolyn Kuhl, and Fourth Circuit Court nominee Terrence Boyle).

· Failed to support the 2004 Ohio Marriage Amendment.

· Failed to recognize that his support for the McCain–Feingold Act would lead to the creation of left-wing monsters such as Moveon.org.

· Failed to recognize that his support for Hate Crime legislation makes “wrong thinking” and real criminal acts, crimes.

· Failed to recognize that his support for a federal minimum wage hike would lead to higher unemployment.

· Failed to support repealing the federal 55 MPH speed limit.

· Failed to retain his US Senate seat.

· Failed to keep up in the fund raising race with Dave Yost. (DeWine $39,500; Yost $42,727)

And let's not forget his campaign already has shown a disdain for the law:

_He failed to list his campaign treasurer on his original website when he announced for the campaign (from RightOhio)
_According to Mike DeWine’s campaign report, DeWine gladly accepted a $1000 donation from Michael R Heaphy MD, a Medicaid provider from Lima. Ohio Revised Code prohibits campaign contributions from Medicaid Providers to candidates for Attorney General:

3599.45 Candidates prohibited from accepting contributions from Medicaid providers.

(A) No candidate for the office of attorney general or county prosecutor or such a candidate’s campaign committee shall knowingly accept any contribution from a provider of services or goods under contract with the department of job and family services pursuant to the medicaid program of Title XIX of the “Social Security Act,” 49 Stat. 620 (1935), 42 U.S.C. 301, as amended, or from any person having an ownership interest in the provider.

As used in this section “candidate,” “campaign committee,” and “contribution” have the same meaning as in section 3517.01 of the Revised Code.

(B) Whoever violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor of the first degree.

And then there is the quickness with which they respond to issues, like say the sitting attorney general DICK Cordray deciding to defend the hacks who used their government jobs and access to dig up dirt on Joe the Plumber, not to mention their web presence. Lowering the Price of Perfidy

The taxpayer-funded defense of three rogue state workers who invaded Joe the Plumber’s privacy sends the wrong message to other state workers: don’t worry, we’ll take care of you if you get caught. It’s more than just an individual wrong: it degrades our government and encourages bad behavior.

…. The attorney general has a duty to defend state workers who are sued.

…. But the law lets the attorney general off the hook when state workers go rogue. When the worker is doing stuff that’s not part of the job – say, searching for politically embarrassing material in confidential government databases – the attorney general “shall not” represent them. The same rule applies for workers who act with malice, or recklessly. No free legal defense.

“Shall not” is not my phrase – it’s what the law says.

When a state worker makes a mistake, the government should defend them. Mistakes happen — but what happened to Joe the Plumber wasn’t a mistake. It was a deliberate act, with an attempted cover-up.

…. The threat of big trouble and legal bills is a deterrent to such bad behavior, and it should be. A free, taxpayer-funded defense lowers the price of perfidy for others who would loyally do the dirty work of their political masters. That price doesn’t need to be lowered — it’s low enough already.

The story’s three days old. Where’s Mike?

Yeah, he commented on Cordray’s move in the DDN article:

“These people violated the privacy of an Ohio citizen and they did it, it would appear, to advance a partisan political campaign, and I think taxpayers will be shocked to find that their tax dollars are going to defend them,” said Mike DeWine of Cedarville, the former U.S. senator and Greene County prosecutor.

But so did Yost:

“It’s an outrageous use of taxpayer money to defend the invasion of a citizen’s privacy.”

Yost even does the sound-bite thing better than DeWine, who supposedly has had years of practice.

DeWine has begun the process of receiving what from all appearances will be serial spankings at county endorsement meetings; the first of what I expect will be many was administered by Butler County last week (BizzyBlog coverage and commentary is here). Yost got the county’s endorsement by a 68%-32% margin.

DeWine’s virtual non-presence on the web (a home page, a bio, and a PDF of his candidacy announcement) contrasts sharply with Yost’s frequently-updated, well-presented effort.

Yost has been following the state employee-orchestrated Joe the Plumber perfidy almost since it began and campaigning aggressively while carrying out his prosecutorial duties in Delaware County. DeWine has been virtually silent and schmoozing big-bucks people (not very successfully, as I understand it) while teaching a college course or two. I think that’s a precursive indicator of who will work harder as a sensible, principled conservative representing the interests of the Buckeye State’s citizens.

Well, Mark, good luck with salvaging the coronation gone awry.

Outlook for Dem Govs Grim....

Wow, T-Shirt Ted is finally being held to account for his actions, and people are waking up to the idea that Ed Rendell is a joke. Shocking, but apparently true...From Michael Barone:

With polls showing a drop in Barack Obama's job rating and sinking support for the Democrats' health care plans, there is evidence of collateral damage where you might not expect to find it, in the standing of Democratic governors. Pennsylvania's Ed Rendell is suddenly getting negative job ratings in both the Quinnipiac and the Franklin and Marshall polls -- his lowest marks in seven years as governor. Ohio's Ted Strickland, who has spent most of his first term working amicably with Republican legislators, scores under 50 percent in the latest Quinnipiac poll and has only tenuous leads over two Republicans, John Kasich and Mike DeWine, who may run against him next year.

Obviously Mr. Barone did not get the memo that Mike DeWine is running for attorney general, which should tell you something. Just think, if the ORP and "leaders" like Jon "hug me teddy" Husted had stood up against T Shirt Ted and Big Government more, maybe, just maybe Ted would be more in the tank. But no, "hug me teddy" Husted convinced reps like Danny Bubp and others to roll over on the governor's budgets, and bango, no more Republican majority in the House. Just think, if the ORP would do more than talk about lowering taxes and balancing budgets (anyone remember the difference between Bobby Taft's rhetoric and his actual performance?), we might be in even better shape.

However, it is not just these old Dem stalwarts who are in trouble:

In the two governor races being contested this year, Republicans seem to have an advantage. Republican Bob McDonnell has led Democrat Creigh Deeds in all but one poll and picked up the support of Black Entertainment Television billionaire Sheila Johnson, one of the biggest contributors to the incumbent, Democratic National Chairman Tim Kaine. New Jersey incumbent Jon Corzine, who spent more than $100 million on narrow wins for senator in 2000 and governor in 2005, is 15 points behind Republican Chris Christie. Corzine will not be helped by the indictment of multiple Jersey pols, most of them Democrats, in a case initiated by Christie when he was U.S. attorney.

There's an argument that these results hold little relevance to the standing of the national parties. Almost every state faces severe fiscal problems, and standoffs between a governor and a legislature can drag the governor's ratings way down, as in the case of California's Arnold Schwarzenegger. Moreover, a governor's personal strengths and weaknesses can override party identification; one of the nation's highest-rated governors is Dave Freudenthal, a Democrat in very Republican Wyoming.

Even so, these numbers should be troubling for Democrats. Rendell and Strickland are attractive personalities with some penchant for centrist policies. Both were suggested as possible running mates for Barack Obama (both sensibly swatted away those suggestions). Corzine is running in a state that, with a rising immigrant population and an outflow of affluent residents, has been solidly Democratic for a dozen years. Altogether these states have 69 electoral votes, and Obama won all four by comfortable margins last November.

Democratic governors in other important states also have been getting low marks from voters. North Carolina's freshly elected Bev Perdue has only 26 percent of voters willing to re-elect her. Colorado's Bill Ritter, Washington's Christine Gregoire, Oregon's Ted Kulongoski, Wisconsin's Jim Doyle, Massachusetts' Deval Patrick, and Michigan's Jennifer Granholm have been getting submajority voter approval most of the year.

These governors are mostly able and attractive people, and every one of their states voted for Obama. None of them is tarred by scandal or not up to the job, as seems to be the case with the nation's lowest-rated governors, Nevada Republican Jim Gibbons and New York Democrat David Paterson.

Heh....I guess we gave the libs enough rope to hang themselves, and they are doing it....Michael Barone sees that this might be that Americans don't like big government (gee, didn't a former actor turned political genius say that a couple decades or so ago?):

take all this as evidence -- not conclusive evidence, but significant evidence -- for the proposition that economic distress does not predispose voters to favor bigger government. Not all the reasons for these governors' negative job ratings arise from debates over the size of government, but many do -- and voters are clearly not hankering for more government.

When you put these results together with Obama's slide in the polls, they suggest trouble for big-government Democrats. Pollster Scott Rasmussen now shows Obama with only 49 percent job approval; when he asked voters which party they'd like to represent them in the House, Republicans came out ahead of Democrats.

If the National GOP had any real conservative leadership, we would be so far ahead in the polls by now. No, instead, we are still twiddling our thumbs and trying to stick out olive branches to those who stab us in the back (see DeWine, Mike; Powell, Colin; et. al.). No, what we should be doing is educating the public on what conservative solutions look like. The real problem, I think, is that those in charge of our parties have no idea what such things look like, because they just talk the talk, they don't internalize it and apply it. But boy, if only we had some transformational leadership, imagine where we would be. To think that with the joke of leadership on the national (Lindsey Graham? uh, no. John McCain? Hell no. Mitt Romney? You must be joking. Anyone seen Massachusetts socialized medicine crisis?) or the state level (Hug Me Husted and Mike DeWine? Can anyone tell me what these and earthworms have in common besides eating dirt and slithering? Answer: no spines) that we are doing this well so far from 2012, is both heartening and foreboding. I wonder how the GOP will screw it up.

Country First doled out a significant amount over the first six months of the year to a variety of candidates including longtime McCain allies like Sen. John Thune (S.D.), Gov. Charlie Crist, who is running for the Senate in Florida, former Sen. Mike DeWine, a candidate for attorney general in Ohio, and South Carolina Attorney General Henry McMaster who is running for governor. McCain also donated to the Republican nominees for governor in Virginia and New Jersey -- the lone statewide races on the ballot this November.

Do we really want John McCain's buddy running for Attorney General in this state? Especially when we have a a real viable alternative in Dave Yost? We're really going to run this retread? Seriously?

Palin vs. McCain Staffers

There is one paragraph that really sums up the McCain-Palin staffers versus Palin issue in this Wall Street Journal piece and here it is:

No one really cares by now who did what to whom. The important point is that Mrs. Palin isn't responsible for Tuesday's defeat. The sages who urged Mr. McCain to "suspend" his campaign and throw himself in the middle of bailout talks on Capitol Hill can take far more credit for the loss.

McCain's "leadership" on the Bailout did far more damage on Tuesday than anything that McCain's staffers think Palin did.

Mark and I were invited up to the rally in Columbus today to sit with the media and I have to say that was quite a different experience than what we are used to...

First of all...as I said on Twitter, the press also waits in line although it is a MUCH shorter line. The Secret Service check is a little more intensive because they are also checking equipment. Most of the events we've been to in the past, we have not been able to take our TIB Network video camera...but that was not a problem today!

We have video of Republican Leader, my Congressman and a Great American -- John Boehner -- as well as Steve Austria and Mike Crites (I'll try to get those videos up tomorrow) but the main event was Arnold the Governator and John McCain...

Mark got Campaign Carl's autograph...and we learned that FOX News' Bret Baier has been measuring the drapes for when Brit Hume calls it quits after the election! You can hear Carl doing his "liveshot" during Arnold's speech if you listen close enough.

Vote Issue Update: Look for Suppression of Military Vote

For all the talk of those on the Left about donations from military folks going toward Obama, we see more and more military personnel favoring John McCain. Here is the story:

A poll by the Military Times newspaper group suggests that there is overwhelming support for John McCain among U.S. troops in every branch of the armed forces by a nearly 3-1 margin.

According to the poll, 68 percent of active-duty and retired servicemen and women support McCain, while 23 percent support Barack Obama. The numbers are nearly identical among officers and enlisted troops.

The Military Times, which publishes the Army Times, Navy Times, Marine Corps Times and Air Force Times, polled 80,000 subscribers from Sept 22 to Sept. 29. The non-scientific survey gathered 4,300 respondents -- all of them registered and eligible to vote.

Therefore, look for more suppression of the military vote, but look for the Left to continue to expand the vote for fish in lakes.

Don't Believe the Polls Update: Rendell Worried About PA, Internals Show Much Tighter Race

Ed Rendell is scared. Really scared. This...is CNN:

Sen. John McCain making a new push in his state, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell (D) "has sent two separate memos to the Obama campaign in the past five days requesting that the Democratic Presidential candidate -- as well as Hillary and Bill Clinton -- return to campaign in Pennsylvania,"

Ed Rendell is scared. He is seeing what Murtha calling his constituents "rednecks" and "racists" has done. He is worried about bitter clingers.

Don't believe the hype. This race is close. The internals are showing that. SOB's own Dave Stacy has the scoop:

Alternate title #2: Why John McCain is touring PA today.

RCP is THE must-have resource for any election and this one is no different. While I've been keeping a sharp eye on the state polling, it's just about time to take a very close look at the state polling over and above the national numbers. And they yield some very interesting data about the state of the race.

These are all states that John McCain must win, there are about seven. These were all Bush states in 2004 and it's already looking like a sure bet he's going to lose smaller Bush states Iowa and NM, He can afford those, he can't afford any of these really. Here's the numbers. From Last week to this week, this is all John McCain's perspective, so -2 is a state he's losing by two.

Since these are all red states, it goes without saying that this moves a horrendous map into merely bad, but hey an improvements an improvement!

So it looks like he's pulling FL, OH back from the brink (both states have recent polling showing him in the lead). NV and NC, and MO he is within the margin of error. CO and VA he's losing badly and they even look like they might be pulling away.

But then we look at Pennsylvania.

PA -11 (-13.4) +2

McCain/Palin have continued to pour money time and resources into PA despite a three week period where it looked like he was losing it by double digits, leaving everyone scratching their heads. But morning call has shown some movement to McCain by 3 points, and Susquehanna had a single digit loss for him, which pulls PA into where VA is now.

Steve Corbett, a radio talk show host in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, accidentally received a copy of an internal email sent by Grant Olin who heads the Wilkes-Barre headquarters of the Obama campaign. The email went to 627 Obama campaign volunteers in the Wilkes-Barre Scranton region, saying that Obama Headquarters reported an internal poll which shows that Obama is only 2 points up in Pennsylvania.

Sean Smith, who is heading Obama's Pennsylvania campaign, was interviewed by Steve Corbett via phone at 5:35 today to discuss this. He said that Grant "went rogue", and aknowledged that Grant was "reprimanded" for this.

McCain has his own internals too. And if they are telling him the same thing, well that would go a long way to explaining why McCain was in PA today and why both he and Sarah Palin have spent a lot of time this week. Basically if McCain can get the states that are within the MOE, plus steal PA, then he doesn't need CO or VA
And a win is a win. I doubt this is their preferred strategy, I think they would like to see the numbers get better in VA and CO as those are historically better states than PA for Republicans (duh). But look at this as plan B and it makes sense

Is The Sky Falling?

I have to say that I am perplexed. Anxious even. In my entire life of political involvement I have never seen such levels of negativity. Going through earlier presidential campaigns as a volunteer, beginning with Goldwater, my memories of earlier political skirmishes are mixed with nostalgic memories of 'the good old days'.

It has also been a very active season out on the trail. This week we have seen blistering attacks bombarding from everywhere. Anybody want a little cheese with that whine? For me, it has a week of great highs with Sarah Palin sweeping in and energizing our base and then a bummer of start with Colin Powell turning on Senator McCain. Of course, General Powell is entitled to support anyone he wishes but his lack of loyalty to his party will not soon be forgotten. The whisper campaign that nobody talks about, coming from the Obama side is just as caustic and their smug sense of 'we've got this one in the bag' is annoying. I don't care how smooth the messenger is, isn't anyone listening to the message?

The message is pretty simple. A vote for Obama is vote for socialism, it is that simple. And his brand of politics of 'spreading the wealth' or reallocating of assets comes down to taking it away from those who have earned it to people who don't. If you think this economic crises is all the fault of "W" then you are grossly mistaken. When Obama and the army of taxmen that will accompany him to power will definitely change our American Way of Life. Are you ready for that? Is that really what you want? I predict that our taxes will grow so high, that your take home pay will shrink to 50% or less. Wait and see.

Of course true conservatives have seen this nightmare scenario in their dreams for years. Some of us have wailed the cry. Some of us have stood up and said enough is enough. For me, I am not quite so sure that B. Obama has it all wrapped up. I believe in my heart of hearts that there are people like me out there who will go the extra mile to protect our way of life.

With only 16 days left, we have time to spread our message, and get our people to vote. We are always looking for volunteers and our phone banks are jamming! Every time I visit HQ or call, they are really hopping so I know that the volunteers we have in Butler County are working with every last strength in their bodies. I know we will cross the finish line exhausted but I think that with the help of everyone, divine intervention and work, John McCain could be our next president!

Where is the Hate? Update: McCain Supporter Attacked in NYC

If you hear the mainstream media, you would think that everyone who comes to McCain/Palin rallies wears a white hood or has a swastika on their arm. However, we have shown time and again how the so-called hate charges are unfounded, like the "kill him" nonsense. However, hate by the Left is real and we are documenting it. Here is the latest:

here is a real district attorney’s complaint documenting an unprovoked assault by an enraged Democrat against a McCain volunteer in midtown Manhattan: “Defendant grabbed the sign [informant] was holding, broke the wood stick that was attached to it, and then struck informant in informant’s face thereby causing informant to sustain redness, swelling, and bruising to informant’s face and further causing informant to sustain substantial pain.”

The overly formal document doesn’t mention this important detail: the victim was a small, quiet, middle-aged woman wearing glasses, and the attacker was a loud, angry man who went into orbit at the mere sight of McCain campaign signs.

On a Monday afternoon, September 15, 2008, three McCain volunteers were holding campaign signs and distributing leaflets on a busy corner of 51st Street and Lexington Avenue. As they were peacefully talking to each other, they were approached by a man who, in the words of the victim, provided the impression of “a rather benign, doughy-looking guy — not a person I would have expected to assault me.”
