WASHINGTON, D.C. – Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement on President Bush’s decision to commute the prison sentence of I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby and leave intact the fine and probation handed down by the court:

“The President’s decision on Mr. Libby was the right one, and I believe it ensures that the interests of justice and fairness are both served. Given the fact that the prosecutor in this case never charged any individual with breaking the law with regard to the disclosure of Valerie Plame’s name to the media, I agree with the President that the sentence was excessive and support his decision to commute Mr. Libby’s prison sentence.”

I'd be curious to know what Vice President Cheney has to say on the subject...

Me? I think the right decision was made here. Boehner says it best, justice and fairness is served by this commutation. It's not like Bush pardoned the guy... Libby still has to face the world with a conviction on his record...while I would have prefered that Libby go to jail until the last day of Bush's term, this works too.

The Wax Man and State Secrets

Based on the level of OUTRAGE that the Democrats expressed over Sandy "Docs in the Socks" Berger, I find Rep. Waxman's political play making over Vice President Dick Cheney's comments to be particularly entertaining. Where was the Wax Man when The Burglar was stuffing state secrets in to his socks and then hiding them under rocks?

VPOTUS: I usually avoid press comment when I'm up here, but I felt so strongly about what senator reid said in the last couple of days that I thought it was appropriate that i come out today and make a statement that I think needs to be made. I thought his speech yesterday was unfortunate, that his comments were uninformed and misleading. Senator Reid has taken many positions on Iraq. He has threatened that if the President vetoes the current pending supplemental legislation that he will send up Senator Russ Feingold's bill to defund Iraq operations altogether. Yet only last November, Senator Reid said there would be no cut-off of funds for the military in Iraq. So in less than six months time, Senator Reid has gone from pledging full funding for the military, then full funding with conditions, and then a cut-off of funding. Three positions in five months on the most important foreign policy question facing the nation and our troops. Yesterday, Senator Reid said the troop surge was against the recommendations of the Iraq Study Group. That is plainly false. The Iraq Study Group report was explicitly favorable toward a troop surge to secure Baghdad. Senator Reid said there should be a regional conference on Iraq. Apparently he didn't know that there is going to be one next week. Senator Reid said he doesn't have real substantive meetings with the president. Yet immediately following last week's meeting at the White House, he said it was a good exchange. Everyone voiced their considered opinion about the war in Iraq, end quote. What's most troubling about Senator Reid's comments yesterday is his defeatism. Indeed, last week he said the war is already lost. And the timetable legislation that he is now pursuing would guarantee defeat. Maybe it's a political calculation. Some Democratic leaders seem to believe that blind opposition to the new strategy in Iraq is good politics. Senator Reid himself has said that the war in Iraq will bring his party more seats in the next election. It is cynical to declare that the war is lost because you believe it gives you political advantage. Leaders should make decisions based on the security interest of our country, not on the interest of their political party. Thank you.

Crazy Kucinich's Latest Ploy for Attention

For weeks now, we've been hearing about how Dennis the Menace was going to stick it to Darth HALLIBURTON!. However, Little Denny can't seem to pull the trigger as events keep stepping on his media cycle plans. First, the Virginia Tech shootings dominated his news cycle happened... The latest delay tactic: Cheney’s Health Prompts Kucinich to Delay Impeachment Drive. Now, if the Space Cadet's charges are serious enough to be worthy of Congressional time and consideration, shouldn't he not be concerned with how much media he gets or what Cheney's health might be like? It's not as if Cheney is going to drop what he's doing and head over to the United States House of Representatives and make an impassioned plea for mercy... Give me a break.

This nonsense can't be playing well in his district...however embarrassing, that's the representation that they chose for themselves. It's just a shame he has to make the state look this kooky too...
