Harry Reid Shows Imperial Progressive/Statist Attitude to CNN Reporter

The big news from this blurb was Harry Reid saying why would we want to save one child who has cancer, but there is far more to this than that.  But, it also shows you the way liberals engage in changing arguments and premises and no one calls them on that.  Here are the relevant quotes.  There is a video clip but it appears to be malfunctioning....From the Blaze:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) was asked during a press conference Wednesday why he opposes a House bill that would fund the National Institutes of Health during the partial government shutdown if it could “help one child who has cancer.”
And he was apparently unprepared for the question from CNN’s Dana Bash.
“You all talked about children with cancer unable to go to clinical trials. The House is presumably going to pass a bill that funds at least the NIH,” Bash began. “Given what you’ve said, will you at least pass that? And if not, aren’t you playing the same political games that Republicans are?”
Her question is in reference to several House appropriations bills that would keep certain institutions funded during the partial government shutdown. Senate Democrats say they will not negotiate with the House on anything until it passes a “clean” continuing resolution, ending the shutdown completely and leaving Obamacare untouched.
“What right did they have to pick and choose what part of government is going to be funded? It’s obvious what’s going on here. You talk about reckless and irresponsible,” said Sen. Reid. “[T]hey have no right to pick and choose.”
Bash persisted: “But if you can help one child who has cancer, why wouldn’t you do it?”
“Why pit one against the other?” Sen. Chuck Schumer said off microphone, avoiding the the main question.
“Why would we want to do that?” Reid said with a confused look on his face after stuttering. “I have 1,100 people at Nellis Air Force base that are sitting home. They have a few problems of their own.”
Now, first of all, Dana Bash is referring to statements by Progressive Democrats that if we can only save one person with obamacare, or with gun control, as well as similar comments by Dick Durbin on the Senate floor where he lied about his own deceased daughter's eligibility for healthcare, where Dems were saying one life is precious (hmmm....wonder what all the aborted babies think about that?).  The House appeared to be saying, sure, let's fund these important things while we discuss Obamacare...but Harry Reid is having none of it...

First, Mr. Senator, the US Constitution gives the House the right to pick and choose what parts of government are funded.  You may have forgotten how this works since your chamber hasn't passed an active budget in over five years, but the process of budgeting and funding government is about picking and choosing what and how much gets funding.  See Article One, Section 9.  The House can pick and choose what gets funded.  You see, you senile old bastard, it is not what has been going on where your dictator in chief gets a blank check to throw around.  The process is supposed to work this way, not like the banana republic system you and Barry-cade Obama have set up.  So, since we have now shown you are incompetent to hold office, why don't you step down.  But wait, there is more.

Notice how Reid changes the premise and the argument.  We go from "every life is sacred" to the good of the community.  In other words, who cares about one sick kid suffering from cancer?  I got some folks at Nellis Air Force Base sitting home furloughed.  They have their own problems.

Seriously, Mr. Reid?  You are going to play that game?  Sad part is most of the reporters in the room let this senile, insane, stuttering bastard get away with the comment.  But it is not even the most telling.

“This is — to have someone of your intelligence to suggest such a thing maybe means you’re irresponsible and reckless,” he added.

Now he goes after the reporter.  This is what they do.  They attack any who question them.  He goes after and basically threatens the reporter with the veiled idea of "well, I would think someone as smart as you would understand...." which means, if you don't tow the line, we won't dignify your questions with answers.

Leftists/Statists are like this.  Dana Bash just is the latest to learn the lesson that the Statist Progressives only respect you as they are using you, and if you show any initiative, then you will be put in line.  And it is worse if you are just a regular citizen.

Note to the MSM--IT'S THE DEMS FAULT!

Just some rational logic for you, folks....

The day the Democrats took over was not January 22nd 2009; it was actually January 3rd 2007 the day the Democrats took over the House of  Representatives and the Senate, at the very start of the 110th Congress.

The Democratic Party controlled a majority in both chambers for the  first time since the end of the 103rd Congress in 1995.

For those who are listening to the liberals propagating the fallacy  that everything is "Bush's Fault", think about this:January 3rd, 2007 was the day the Democrats took over the Senate and  the Congress.

 At the time:
The DOW Jones closed at 12,621.77
The GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5%
 The Unemployment rate was 4.6%
George Bush's Economic policies SET A RECORD of 52 STRAIGHT MONTHS of
 JOB GROWTH
!

January 3rd, 2007 was the day that Barney Frank took over the House
Financial Services Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate
 Banking Committee.

The economic meltdown that happened 15 months later was in what part
of the economy?

 BANKING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES!

Bush asked Congress 17 TIMES to stop Fannie & Freddie - starting in
2001 because it was financially risky for the US economy.

And who took the THIRD highest pay-off from Fannie Mae AND Freddie Mac?
 OBAMA!

And who fought against reform of Fannie and Freddie?
 OBAMA and the Democrat Congress!

Budgets do not come from the White House.
They come from Congress and the party that controlled Congress since
January 2007 is the Democratic Party.
Furthermore, the Democrats controlled the budget process for 2008 &
2009 as well as 2010 & 2011.  In that first year, they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases.

For 2009 though, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the 2009 budgets.  And where was Barack Obama during this time? He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete 2009.   If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five  years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets.

If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself. In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is I inherited a deficit that I voted  for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January
 20th.

So, Mr. Obama, when you talk about the deficit and refer to the tired old policies of the past....you are not talking about Mr. Bush, even though he indeed did have a hand in increasing the debt.  No, sir, you are talking about yourself and your cronies in the Congress.  So, sir, when it comes to this crappy economy, homes underwater, and unemployment, not only do you and Nancy Pelosi and the Congressional Democrats own it, YOU BUILT THAT!

Students Get Betrayed On Loans By Obama

Remember when Obama said he was going to make education more affordable? Remember when all those idiotic "student types" between the ages of 18-25 voted for him? Wonder how they are feeling now that Obama has taken away an important subsidy? And it was his "Grand Bargain" with Harry Reid, B**ch McConnell, Boehner and Pelosi that did it! From USA Today:
To pay for that, graduate students who get federally subsidized loans would see the interest on those loans begin to accrue while they're still in school, beginning July 1 next year. Currently, that interest doesn't begin accruing until the students graduate. That saves lots of money for doctoral candidates, medical school students, law students and others in long-term graduate programs

So, we are going to give the money that would have went to these people seeking to better their education and retrain themselves to people who are most likely going to drop out of college anyway. Nice! This is a bad deal for people who have already gone through college, and are out there trying to get advanced degrees or post graduate degrees to find a job. Nice work, Obama. Now, as you struggle through grad school and live on ramen noodles and stale milk, Thank Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Boehner, and McConnell.

Debt Crisis Update

So, last night the House of Representatives passed the Cut, Cap, and Balance bill and sent it over to the Senate where Democrats led by Harry Reid will promptly stick it in a drawer to never be seen again. Meanwhile, President Obama continues to lie about Republicans saying that they have no plan (liberal projection, as it is HE and Democrats who have no plan).

On Cut, Cap and Balance, Speaker, my Congressman and a Great American -- John Boehner -- had this to say:
“Americans are still asking, ‘where are the jobs?’ And while President Obama simply talks tough about cutting spending, House Republicans are taking action. ‘Cut, Cap, and Balance’ is exactly the kind of ‘balanced’ approach the White House has asked for – it provides President Obama with the debt limit increase he’s requested while making real spending cuts now and restraining future government spending and debt that are hurting job growth.

“House Republicans are the only ones to put forward and pass a real plan that will create a better environment for private-sector job growth by stopping Washington from spending money it doesn’t have and preventing tax hikes on families and small businesses. The White House hasn’t said what it will cut. And Senate Democrats haven’t passed a budget in more than two years. The President should abandon his veto threat, and urge Senate Democrats to quickly pass the ‘Cut, Cap, and Balance’ plan to help get our economy back to creating jobs.”
Republican Study Committee Chairman Jim Jordan added:
“Tonight, the People’s House voted for a plan to cut, cap, and balance the budget. This is an historic first step in fundamentally fixing America’s debt problem. Our solution makes real spending cuts now, caps spending in the future, and requires a Balanced Budget Amendment before allowing the President to borrow another dime. Families and businesses have to balance their budgets every single day. It’s only right that the federal government, with a $14.3 trillion debt, should finally have to do the same.”

“The debt clock is ticking, and it is time for Senate leaders to take action. Cut, Cap and Balance is the only plan on the table. Senator Reid must show some courage and bring this bill to the floor for an up-or-down vote.”

“All across the country, people are demanding that Washington cut spending and balance its budget. This is the way to do it.”
What the Cut, Cap, and Balance Act Does
Based on CBO’s March baseline, the Cut, Cap, and Balance Act saves $111 billion in 2012 and around $5.8 trillion over ten years.

Enforceable caps on spending will bring the size of government back below 20% of GDP to its post-WWII average.

· The bill grants President Obama’s request for an increase in the debt limit, but only after Congress has cut up the credit cards by passing a Balanced Budget Amendment.
Apparently this isn't what the president or the Democrats in the Senate want. So, maybe folks ought to be asking what exactly it is that they want because they sure haven't offered up a plan of their own in over 800 days.

Gang of Six

We are just now starting to hear about a "plan" that will raise taxes now and cut spending later. Has that EVER worked? What happens is that Republicans cave on the tax hike and then Democrats forget about the spending reductions.

This isn't a deal worth making...

UPDATE:  Americans for Limited Government President Bill Wilson today blasted a non-binding proposal in the Senate as insufficient to meet the nation's debt crisis:
"Senator Tom Coburn, a member of the 'Gang of Six,' has admitted that the bill, if all of its $3.7 trillion in savings over ten years were even realized, would only  represent 40 percent of the solution to restoring order to the nation's fiscal house.  Coburn said even if enacted, Congress is 'going to have to change it because this is just 40 percent of the way.'  Only 40 percent of a solution is no solution at all, it is accepting failure when there is no margin for error.

"Moody's has already warned that the McConnell plan, which only vaguely promises $1.5 trillion in savings, would not prevent a downgrade, as it falls short of its recommended minimum consolidation of $4 trillion over ten years.  It is likely the 'Gang of Six' plan will not avoid a downgrade either, because it defers much of its work to congressional committees, putting off the date any cuts would even be voted on.  In order to reassure credit markets, Congress needs to make big cuts now and put the nation on the path to a balanced budget — before Washington turns into Athens.

"To his credit, Senator Coburn has offered a real program that cuts borrowing by $9 trillion over ten years, and is a brilliant piece of work.  But even he acknowledges that he only has but a handful of supporters.

"That means the Senate has but one credible option in front of it, it is the bipartisan 'Cut, Cap, and Balance' plan that will cut borrowing by $5.8 trillion over ten years and send a Balanced Budget Amendment to the states.  Any plan that contemplates less savings, defers the hard work to back-room 'commissions' and stacked committees, and fails to balance the budget should not even merit consideration.  S&P has given us 90 days to avert a downgrade, meaning we need to act now, not kick the can down the road again.

"Every single Republican senator is a cosponsor of the Balanced Budget Amendment. So, they should get behind the one bill, 'Cut, Cap, and Balance,' that would force a vote on it, sending it to states for ratification.  Congress needs to act before the debt becomes so large it cannot possibly be paid back.  This is a ticking time bomb that we are running out of time to disarm."

We Have To Do Something About These Soaring Gold Prices and Big Gold!!!

Release:
Subsidies for Big Gold Must End

WASHINGTON- With gold prices reaching record heights in April, gold mining companies are reporting huge profits.  79 percent of all gold mined in the U.S. comes from Nevada, where the state’s senior senator, Harry Reid, is a stalwart defender of the industry.  But even with the soaring price of gold, the U.S. government still allows the gold mining industry to take advantage of deductions in the tax code.  These subsidies must end.

Today, Thomas Pyle, president of the Institute for Energy Research, issued the following statement:

“Yesterday, Harry Reid put forth his solution to rising gasoline prices:  ‘We have to do something about these soaring gas prices. We need to take away the subsidies of these five major oil companies.’  By subsidies, of course, he means the ability to deduct business expenses from their taxable income, as other industries are allowed.”

“Washington must also do something about soaring gold prices.  With gold prices at new heights, mining companies must be punished for making record profits.  Senator Reid must apply his flawless logic to the gold industry:  he must strip the gold mining industry of their ability to deduct expenses from their taxable income.  Then, as he says will happen with gas prices, gold prices will necessarily fall.”

“OK, we’re just kidding.  But this example illuminates the absurdity of the argument put forth by Senator Reid and his allies.  Preventing companies from deducting business expenses from their taxable revenues will have absolutely no effect on the price of the commodity.  Even worse, it will make companies spend more money on taxes instead of reinvesting in employees, technology, and expansion.  If these deductions are so bad for American consumers, why doesn’t Senator Reid propose to strip them from all industries?”

“Senator Reid is talking nonsense when it comes to gas prices.  Whether he realizes it or not, his attempt to pass a discriminatory tax policy that singles out the oil and gas industry will do nothing to lower gasoline prices.  Instead, he should focus on the Obama Administration’s anti-energy policies that have played a direct role in the skyrocketing price of gas.”

Reid Trying to Ram DREAM Act Four Different Ways

From Fox News:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has pushed four different versions of the controversial immigration bill known as the DREAM Act without a hearing on any of them, drawing outrage from the top Republican on the committee that would have handled the package.

The Nevada senator, who narrowly escaped a defeat in the November election, has pursued an unusual approach to advancing the bill that gives young illegal immigrants who attend college or join the military a pathway to legal status.

Since September, his deputy Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., has introduced four slightly different versions all bearing the same name. Reid has moved them all to the calendar -- he appears to be teeing up for a test vote, which could happen sometime later this week, on the latest version introduced on Tuesday.

"Democrat leaders, in their rush to pass an unpopular bill during the lame-duck session, have completely bypassed the Judiciary Committee. They have introduced four separate versions of the same bill and, without any committee review, placed each and every one of them on the legislative calendar," the statement said. "This unusual approach creates a chaotic situation, one that makes it more difficult for the public and their representatives -- as well as the press -- to review this deeply controversial measure."

OK, we have covered why DREAM is really a nightmare. But, obviously, the elitist know it all statists like Reid and Durbin still don't get it. The American people are tired of this political manuevering for something that should at the least get a hearing before being moved forward. Let's hope that the Senate Republican pledge to block anything before budget and taxes holds firm.

While Nation Teeters on the Brink, Harry Reid Wants to Talk Football?

Yeah, it is true. In a time when Americans want Congress to forget the fluff and go for substance, Harry Reid opens the lame duck session in the Senate with a boring, meandering 6 minute speech about Nevada football. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? Obviously, Dingy One, you did not get the message. Check out the video here at Real Clear Politics. Here is the commentary from RCP:
Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) talks about Nevada's win over Boise State on Friday. Reid explain the highlights of the game and running into a player during church.

"This memorable, remarkable win means so much," Reid said during his floor speech. This speech took place on Monday during the lame duck Senate session.

Seriously, when are we going to quit proclaiming it this day or that congrats and simply stick with the business of running the country and saving the economy? Oh wait, that will be in January. Nevada, just remember, you elected this moronic buffoon again.
I mean, do we really need to find out about Harry Reid's dingy jocklove on the floor of the Senate? I say no.

Senate Dems Endangering Children in Haiti for DREAM Amnesty

In other words, like Saddam and the terrorists, the Democrats are going to use poor children as human shields to get this shamnesty passed:
According to a letter written by Rep. Jeff Fortenberry (R-Neb.), House Democratic Leadership is thinking of attaching the DREAM Act Amnesty bill to an immigration-related bill he introduced. The Help HAITI Act would allow the Department of Homeland Security to offer permanent residency to orphaned children who came to the United States after the devastating earthquake earlier this year.

Rep. Fortenberry has earned an A-grade from NumbersUSA and is a cosponsor of four of our 5-Great Immigration Bills offered this Congress.

“I’m at a total loss. This is about helping the children in the wake of the earthquake,” Rep. Fortenberry wrote.

“After these families have opened their hearts and homes to some of the world’s most vulnerable children, this security is the least we can give them. The House of Representatives should affirm this by passing the Help HAITI Act, free of unrelated, controversial measures.”

According to Congressional Quarterly, a Capitol Hill publication, even though Rep. Fortenberry didn’t mention the DREAM Act in his letter, one of his aides said that was the controversial bill his letter referred to.

I thought Democrats were for helping people, not using them as human shields and political cover. Oh wait, this is reality, as opposed to the mainstream media smoke and mirrors. My bad. Here is a list of Dimocrap Senators who might be on the fence:
SEN. JIM WEBB OF VIRGINIA 202-224-4024; 703-573-7090. Staff says “he hasn’t made a public statement.”

SEN. KENT CONRAD OF NORTH DAKOTA 202-224-2043; 701-258-4648. Staff says “he hasn’t released a statement.” Conrad has voted against the DREAM Act in the past.

SEN. BYRON DORGAN OF NORTH DAKOTA 202 224-2551. He voted against the DREAM Act in the past. Staff says he “hasn’t taken a public position.”

SEN. MARK PRYOR OF ARKANSAS 202-224-2353; 501-324-6336. He voted no on the DREAM Act cloture vote in September. Staff says he is “likely” to vote no again, though he hasn’t made an official public statement yet.

SEN. JON TESTER OF MONTANA 202 224-2644. Staff says he has voted against the DREAM Act in the past and “he will probably vote against any bill that has amnesty in it.”

SEN. MAX BAUCUS OF MONTANA 202-224-2651. He has opposed the DREAM Act in the past and is a “likely no” again in this session.

SEN. CLAIRE MCCASKILL OF MISSOURI 202-224-6154. She opposed the DREAM Act in the past and staff says she has made no statement changing her position otherwise.

Melt those phonelines, people! Don't let this stand.

MUST READ: "Ted Strickland's Rusty Vision: Democrats are at War with Ohio Industry"

Mytheos Holt over at National Review has writted the MUST READ piece of the day entitled "Ted Strickland's Rusty Vision."
What Ohio can’t afford is more abuse from Strickland’s party. At the national level, the Democratic economic agenda is set by Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid, whose fantasies about green jobs and hostility to trade are doing no favors to struggling Rust Belt economies. Meanwhile, Strickland’s own program is fundamentally at loggerheads with the economic-development strategy currently being pursued by the very Ohio Department of Development the governor was so eager to praise.

Currently, the department works from a model that emphasizes the comparative advantages of Ohio’s major cities by designating them “centers of excellence” or “hubs” of various industries. So far, seven such hubs have been named, the most recent being Columbus, which was designated the Ohio Hub of Advanced Energy Manufacturing and Storage. The other centers are the Youngstown Entrepreneurial Hub of Advanced Materials Commercialization and Software Development, the Akron Biomaterials Commercialization Hub, the Cincinnati Consumer Marketing Hub of Innovation, the Toledo Northwest Ohio Solar Energy Innovation Hub, the Cleveland Health and Technology Corridor Hub, and the Ohio Aerospace Hub in Dayton.

Without exception, every single one of the industries attached to these “hubs” has been handicapped or soon will be handicapped by either the Democratic legislative agenda or Strickland’s own actions.

Read the whole thing here.

Dems: "OK, There Maybe, Might Be, Could Be...."

...a double dip recession after all. After telling us in earlier this year that there was little to no chance of a double dip recession, Dems are now trying to scare people with the idea so as to get another money wasting and job killing porkulus package done. From The Hill:
Democrats are starting to warn of major risks to the economy after months of downplaying the threat of a double-dip recession. In letters, interviews, and public statements, President Barack Obama, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and other senior Democrats are now raising red flags that the economy could falter without additional stimulus efforts.

Obama urged congressional leaders in mid-June to pass an extension of tax breaks and unemployment benefits, and up to $50 billion in aid for states and local governments. Without Congress acting, Obama said the economy could “slide backwards.”

Two weeks later, in an interview with the Huffington Post, Pelosi said that absent new federal help, “we could slip back and have another recession, and if we do it’s harder to come back.”

Funny, I thought we didn't need to worry because this summer the porkulus and all the previous federal spending would kick in and we would have jobs galore and the unicorns would be farting ozone that would plug up the hole and the ice caps would refreeze and the seas would go down.....wait, you mean porkulus didn't work? Aw, snap, let's do it again. Now, what is the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results? Check.
On Feb. 7, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner downplayed any such threat on ABC’s “This Week”.

“I think we, we have much, much lower risk of that today than at any time over the last 12 months or so,” Geithner said.

The shift in rhetoric and emphasis comes as Democrats head into tough midterm elections, in which Republicans charge the majority has failed to shore up the economy. According to a series of Pew polls, only one-third of voters believe the 2009 stimulus package helped the economy and less than half say additional spending would help a lot.

Over the last year, the percentage of voters in Pew polls that believe Obama’s economic policies have made the economy worse has risen from 16 percent to 29 percent. Democrats argue Republicans are scuttling their efforts to improve the economy.

And how are they supposed to do that? Dems have clear majorities in BOTH Houses AND the White House!!!!!!!! Wouldn't it be nice to actually hear some responsibility for a change, instead of rhetoric akin to this:

Let's just see what stimulus has wrought, yes? To wit:
The Labor Department reported on Friday that the economy gained 83,000 private sector jobs but lost a total of 125,000 jobs because of a decline in the number of temporary workers on the 2010 Census.

The U.S. economy has gained nearly 600,000 private sector jobs this year, but the numbers have slowed in the last two months. The private sector was gaining roughly 200,000 private-sector jobs per month in March and April, but has only gained a total of 123,000 over the past two months.

The unemployment rate dipped in June to 9.5 percent, but the decrease is more a matter of how the rate is calculated than a decisive improvement in the economy. Fewer people were actively searching for jobs in June, leading to the decline in the unemployment rates.

The economy last month posted 7.9 million fewer jobs than in December 2007, when economists date the beginning of the recession. Many economists suggest the recession ended in the third quarter of 2009, but the official body that makes that determination has yet to announce an end.

The labor market weakness follows similarly tough reports on the nation’s housing and manufacturing markets. Consumer confidence numbers have declined, and stock markets have slumped. The Standard & Poor’s 500 is off roughly 16 percent since its 52-week high in April.

And despite controlling 2 of the 3 branches of federal government, Barry and Nancy and Harry would have us believe that it is all the fault of Republicans and those damned bitter clingers. Uh huh.....right.....

Just When You Thought Card Check Was Dead....

Harry Reid tries to sneak it into law.. Well, who cares, who reads the bills anyway? Der Party Democratik knows what is best for you, right?

From Roll Call:
As Senate Democrats struggle to hammer out a compromise bill on union organizing, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is sketching a process for railroading the bill through the floor as quickly as possible to prevent Republicans from rallying a major campaign against it, senior Democratic aides said.
Talks on the bill are ongoing, and with health care on the Senate’s plate, Democrats said no deal on the labor bill is expected until September at the earliest — if at all.

Reid has been thinking through a strategy to pass it that would require not only the support of all 60 Democrats in the Senate, but also the physical presence of ailing Sens. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) and Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.) for floor votes, since Republicans are likely to filibuster the legislation.

Cutting off debate on the bill would likely ignite a major partisan firestorm, and top Democrats will look to make their move as fast as possible, according to the Democratic aides.

“This is not the kind of thing where we could have a long, drawn-out rollout. We’d have to say, ‘Here’s the deal,’ and then get to the floor and get it passed before anyone can mobilize against it,” one leadership aide said.

Folks, they are getting more arrogant. They are being less sneaky. They are moving forward and are getting more egregious and obvious in their contempt for you, the voters.

Harry Reid Delivers Joke of the Day.....

Ready? Here it comes:
It’s better to have a product based on quality and thoughtfulness rather than try to jam something through

This is what Harry Reid said today in regards to his announcement that they will not meet the Thug-in-Chief's request for getting the Total Control of Your Life Womb to TombHealthcare reform bill passed by August.

Gee, Harry, ya think? Maybe if you would have had this attitude with porkulus, with the omnibus, with the bailouts, and cap and tax, maybe if you and your idiotarian brethren in Congress, you lame den of oligarchic vipers, had had this attitude, we wouldn't be in as bad a shape as we are in now.

It would be funny if it weren't so sad.....

Voinovich Still Wants Auto Bailout

Here is a copy of our senior senator's letter to Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi begging them for another Bailout...

Reid Pelosi Auto

...at least he has the sense to start asking questions as to whether or not Congress has the brains to be handling this issue. Of course, that won't stop him from putting his hand out...

Energy on Friday

Nope...it's not Tuesday...it's Friday...and we're talking about Energy!

  • American Solutions has been running their “Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Nothing” Video Contest and have narrowed it down to three entries. Check them out...and vote...by clicking here.

  • Republican Leader, my Congressman and a Great American -- John Boehner on Majority Leader, not my Senator, but an American -- Harry Reid -- and the devious plot to slip the oil shale ban in to the Continuing Resolution:
“Sen. Reid’s move to reinstate the ban on oil shale energy production is an insult to the American people and yet another example of Democrats acting to make energy more expensive for working families and small businesses. At a time when our economy is struggling, it’s outrageous that Sen. Reid would attempt to block efforts to open up responsible oil shale development, which would create good-paying jobs and help lower energy costs.

“The American people want the boldest, most aggressive energy reform plan possible to bring down gas prices and create more jobs. That’s why Republicans have been fighting for a vote on our ‘all of the above’ plan to lower gasoline prices by increasing production of American energy, promoting more conservation and efficiency, and encouraging the use of more alternative and renewable fuels. We will not retreat in our fight to enact the comprehensive energy plan that the American people support and deserve, and we will not stand idly by while Sen. Reid moves to destroy American jobs and increase energy costs for millions of Americans.”
    Bad move, Senator...

  • Yesterday, the Institute for Energy Research (IER) released the results of a bipartisan national survey of consumer sentiment with respect to energy policy. The survey was conducted on IER’s behalf by behalf by Fabrizio, McLaughlin & Associates (R) and Frederick Polls (D). The findings come on the heels of the announcement that Congress will allow the entire ban on offshore energy production to expire, which the research found to be the preferred choice of a majority of the American people. More specifically, a full 65% of Americans support the complete repeal - or expiration - of the offshore ban. Proposals offered by the House and Senate garnered less support.

Other highlights from the survey include:
73% of Americans believe that given new advances in technology, we can increase drilling for oil and natural gas off the coast of the U.S. and still protect the environment.

Voters trust private industry over the Congress, 45% to 26%, to meet our future energy needs. But 54% of survey respondents say Congress is most responsible for the current state of our nation’s energy situation.

Only 30% of voters believed some lawmakers when they said, “Increasing domestic energy production will only lower gas prices by two cents.”

49% of Americans said that increasing taxes on oil companies will increase the price of gasoline at the pump.

Obama Tells Reid: Keep Your Hands off My Money, But Obama Wants More of Ours

Obama wants to take more of our money, but he doesn't want to share any of his with fellow Democrats. At least, that is what the Politico is reporting:
Earlier this month, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid made a personal appeal to Barack Obama: Help me grow the Democrats’ Senate majority by sharing some of the $77 million you’ve got in the bank.

    Obama’s campaign said no.

Although Democratic insiders say a better deal could still come, the Obama campaign so far has agreed only to let Senate Democrats use Obama’s name — as well as those of his wife and running mate — in mail and online fundraising pitches. The campaign has planned no joint fundraising events with House or Senate Democrats, and insiders say none is likely to be held before Election Day.

In rejecting a direct request from his Senate leader, Obama has put a fine point on the financial pressures he’s feeling as the presidential race turns toward the fall.

So, as usual, it is all about the cult of personality of Barry Obama. Who cares about helping others. I thought he was a community organizer who wanted to work for the "common good." Sounds to me like Barry wants to keep all of his money....And remember, Barry wanted us to look at his campaign managerial experience as proof he could be President. Well, he seems to want to hoard money, while wanting others to give him more. It seems he spends like crazy, but only on himself. Do we want that?
What about the Republicans? The article goes on:
More importantly, McCain will get substantial help from the Republican National Committee — which has dramatically outraised its Democratic counterpart — and the Republican Party’s state and local committees.

Reid and Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chairman Charles Schumer had hoped at one point to get as much as $10 million from the Obama campaign. With 23 GOP seats up for grabs this year — versus only a dozen Democratic seats — Senate Democrats see a once-in-a-generation opportunity to pad their majority with as many as four to seven new seats.

But to do that, they’ll need money, and lots of it. While the DSCC still has a huge financial advantage over its GOP counterpart, the National Republican Senatorial Committee, the geographic overlap between competitive Senate seats and the tight presidential race means the McCain campaign and the RNC will be dumping tens of millions of dollars into battleground states with competitive Senate races. This will likely help down-ballot GOP candidates and incumbents.

It also seems Barry is not too kind to his fellow Socialists, er, I mean Democrats:
Democrats on Capitol Hill have grumbled for months that it has been hard to orchestrate campaign events and appearances with the Obama campaign. One Democratic strategist said the campaign frequently turns down requests to have Obama appear with a Democratic incumbent or challenger, and that the events that do happen come only after some “very heavy lifting.”

It is all about Barry. Shows you how self-absorbed he is, what an egomaniac. Typical of him and his cult of celebrity.

House Discharge Petition on Coal-to-Liquid Fuel

    This just in...
WASHINGTON, DC – House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today highlighted a discharge petition filed by Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL) to force House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) to schedule a vote on H.R. 2208, the Coal-to-Liquid Fuel Act. The bipartisan bill, authored by Reps. John Shimkus (R-IL) and Rick Boucher (D-VA), would help reduce the price of gasoline by encouraging the use of clean coal-to-liquid technology to produce alternative transportation fuels. Boehner issued the following statement:

“Rep. Roskam’s petition gives Members of both parties the opportunity to support a common sense, bipartisan plan to promote clean alternative fuels technology that will help bring down the price of gasoline on behalf of American families and small businesses. Forcing a vote on the Shimkus-Boucher clean coal-to-liquid bill will send a clear signal that Congress is committed to utilizing clean American energy in an environmentally-safe way while reducing our nation’s costly dependence on unstable foreign sources of energy.

“This measure is a key part of the House Republicans’ ‘all of the above’ energy strategy. Our plan calls for more of everything: more production of American energy, more conservation and efficiency, and more alternative fuels and innovative technologies like coal-to-liquids. With a House floor schedule this week that does not include a single bill to help bring down the price at the pump, there is no reason the Democratic leadership should not schedule this bipartisan bill and other pro-American energy legislation for an immediate vote. I thank Reps. Roskam and Shimkus for their efforts to lower gas prices on behalf of American consumers, and I urge all of my colleagues to sign the Roskam coal-to-liquids petition.”

NOTE: H.R. 2208 would authorize the Secretary of Energy to enter into loan agreements with coal-to-liquid projects that produce innovative transportation fuel, increasing production of clean American energy and helping to reduce the price of gasoline.
Approval of this bill would be a step in the right direction for a Democratic Congress, but I think Pelosi and Reid want to see their approval numbers hit the basement before they will actually take appropriate action. Will Nancy Pelosi take a page from Harry Reid and say that coal makes us sick? We shall see...

Republicans and the 9% Congress Run by Democrats

In a post about the Pelosi/Reid Congress approval rating hitting single digits, Instapundit Glenn Reynolds updates with this comment:
So why are the Republicans running scared, and why aren't they going after the "new Democratic Congress" hammer-and-tongs? Beats me. Because they're idiots, I guess.
Uhh, Glenn, the idiots are the people who are too busy criticizing the GOP leadership to notice that they are hammering the "new" Demcoratic leadership. Maybe Glenn and his conservative friends in California have missed that Republican Leader, my Congressman and a aGreat American -- John Boehner -- and his entire leadership team have been smacking the "new" Democratic Congress on a variety of issues important to Congress. I'm talking all of the energy issues, healthcare issues like S-CHIP, taxes...the list goes on and on...and watching the punditocracy sticking their fingers in their ears is getting more than just a little old.

I will say that I think Rush is right (again) when he says that it is rather astonishing that the drive-by media template for a 9% Congress is that the Republicans are still going to lose a whole bunch of seats. Heck, President Bush has significantly better numbers than this... (HT: K-Lo on The Corner. Source: EIB)
This month, just 9% say Congress is doing a good or excellent job. Most voters (52%) say Congress is doing a poor job, which ties the record high in that dubious category." Now, amidst all of this, with a 9% approval rating, an all-time low, the media template is still what? That the Democrats are going to pick up all these seats in the House and they're going to pick up all these seats in the Senate. It's a foregone conclusion. Now, if people are this upset with Congress, and the president's numbers are higher — you know, this is a risky thing to try to analyze. You have to ask how many Americans understand that Congress is now run by Democrats? How many of them think that Congress is just an extension of the White House and are blaming it on Republicans? Well, you don't know. But I think one of the keys here in every call I get, and every comment I get from people talking about this, whether it's here on the program or in my highly focused personal and private life, it's the gasoline price. The gasoline price is the root of everything because that affects the cost of food, the cost of leisure time activity, the cost of entertainment, and it's a gold mine. It is simply a golden opportunity for the Republican Party here to really make some big hay.
The Republicans, if anything, need to do a better job of framing the "new" Democratic Congress...they should plaster Pelosi's and Reid's faces on every ad they run and slap that 9% number on it...
