WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bob Gibbs (OH-18) has announced the 11 students from the 18th District of Ohio received his nomination for appointments to the U.S. Service Academies:
“The U.S. Service Academies provide our country’s students with the opportunity to serve our nation and be schooled in the leadership and responsibility required to shine in the American military,” Congressman Gibbs said. “The privilege of recommending some of the best and brightest among Ohio’s youth for admission to the U.S. Service Academies is one of my most rewarding responsibilities. I am proud to nominate them and wish them all the best in the years ahead.”
Nominees were selected after a rigorous application process where factors such as academic achievements, extra-curricular activities, leadership skills, physical aptitude, character and motivation were taken into consideration. Congressman Gibbs was aided in the process by his non-partisan Academy Advisory Board made up of distinguished Ohioans who have graduated from the service academies or have years of military experience and leadership.
Congressman Gibbs’ nomination does not guarantee admission to a service academy as the academies’ respective admissions boards decide who is offered appointment, and ultimately admitted. Several individuals have been nominated to multiple academies; if they receive appointment offers from more than one academy, the student will decide which to attend.
The following is a list of nominees and their high schools:
· Colin Harding of Byesville attends Meadowbrook High School and has been nominated to the U.S. Naval Academy.
· Brendan Walburn of Hebron attends Lakewood High School and has been nominated to the U.S. Military Academy (West Point).
· Guy Staley of Cadiz attends Harrison Central and has been nominated to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
· Bradley Suciu of Zanesville attends Zanesville High School and has been nominated to the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
· Jeffrey Suciu of Zanesville attends Zanesville High School and has been nominated to the U.S. Naval Academy and the U.S. Military Academy (West Point).
· William Teater of Mt. Vernon attends Mt. Vernon High School has been nominated to the U.S. Military Academy (West Point).
· Dominic Sicilian of Hebron attends Granville High School has been nominated to the U.S. Naval Academy.
· Samuel Miller of Mt. Vernon attends Mt. Vernon High School has been nominated to the U.S. Naval Academy and the U.S. Military Academy (West Point).

GUEST COLUMN: "Washington Doesn’t Like Me Much: Volume 3"
![]() |
| Rep. Bob Gibbs |
It has now been one year since I was sent to Washington to fix a broken process and get our economy moving again. But one year later, I am still as frustrated as ever with the way Washington manages to get in the way of our economy. As two bills I passed with bipartisan support join 28 other jobs-bills sitting forgotten on the US Senate’s doorstep for months, I can’t help but realize that I should add the US Senate to the list of “Washington Insiders” who don’t like me very much.
While Republicans and Democrats may disagree over how to best jump-start the economy and boost employment, my bill, The Reducing Regulatory Burdens Act of 2011, has enjoyed broad bipartisan support. It is a common-sense initiative that would ensure that business owners are not subject to two separate federal regulations where one would suffice. It frees up capital to be spent on job-creating investments instead of dealing with redundant requirements that provide no additional health or environmental benefits.
But despite passing the House with a bipartisan super-majority, my bill isn't even considered “active” in the Senate. It’s not only my bills, however. The vast majority of our jobs bills aren’t listed as active legislation as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid refuses to bring them to the floor for a vote. I have repeatedly called the Senate to act on this legislation because it is unacceptable that business owners, farmers and local governments across the country will soon be tied up in yet another layer of red-tape because of Washington gridlock.
As Americans suffer through the Obama economy, it is a disgrace that 28 House-passed jobs bills are collecting dust on Harry Reid’s doorstep awaiting action of the Democrat-controlled Senate. The Senate has the right to either vote on these bills as they are currently written, rework them, or scrap them completely and present their own proposals. What the Senate should not do is dodge the process and obstruct any chance at progress. Furthermore, the Senate has not even passed a budget in over 1000 days.
I join the majority of Ohioans and Americans who are frustrated with the Senate’s "Washington Games" and ask you to join me and share your concerns with your US Senators. Let them know we are tired of Washington’s “business as usual” attitude and we cannot get people back to work if the Senate continues to stall jobs-bills for political gain.
It is long past the time to stop the partisanship and political gamesmanship in Washington and come together to do what is right for the American people. Washington may not like my approach, but I will continue to fight for the people of Ohio and support policies that stop deficit spending, reign in an out of control bureaucracy with commonsense regulatory reforms, reform the tax code to increase our global competitiveness, and pursue an energy policy that responsibly develops both our natural and renewable sources.

GUEST COLUMN: "Washington Doesn’t Like Me Much" by Rep. Bob Gibbs
![]() |
| Rep. Bob Gibbs |
I ran for Congress because I was fed up with the way Washington politicians were treating our workers, employers, and families. With eight months under my belt representing the people of Eastern Ohio, I can tell you that my opinion of the bureaucracy and red tape in Washington hasn’t changed much. In fact, I don’t think Washington, D.C. likes me much either.
Washington bureaucrats don’t like me because I am outspoken in working to end the ‘red tape factory’ that has taken over government. ‘Bureaucrat’ is a word that is used a lot in campaign speeches, but is rarely defined. I define a bureaucrat as a federal employee who was not elected by any voting population, and therefore unaccountable to the public, yet still holds a tremendous amount of authority over policies that directly impact Americans.
Case in point: the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Over its history, the EPA has certainly helped make our country a better place to live, work and play. As a farmer and outdoorsman, I enjoy nature, clean water and clean air; things the EPA was originally designed to protect. This behemoth organization has broad reach into the everyday lives of most Americans, whether they realize it or not.
However, the EPA is not the sole reason our environment has improved. The American entrepreneurial spirit encourages advances in technology and innovation that have and continue to result in a cleaner, healthier environment.
Under the Obama Administration, the EPA has moved away from its intended purpose to “create and maintain conditions under which man and nature can exist in productive harmony” and is now implementing the personal agendas of radical environmentalists. Even after the congressional defeat of cap-and-trade, the EPA has begun implementing the job-destroying scheme through executive regulations. They even estimate one of the new rules alone to cost businesses $132 million the first year and add EPA oversight to 10,000 new facilities.
Ohio is coal country. Period. We mine coal, we burn coal, and we have tens of thousands of jobs from coal. Every time a constituent of OH-18 turns on their lights, they are paying less for that energy because of coal. But unfortunately, the EPA is more worried about shutting down the fossil fuel industry entirely than it is about working with our coal industry and recognizing the incredible advances that have been made to clean up coal and its effect on the environment.
As Chairman of the Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee, I oversee the EPA’s implementation of the Clean Water Act and see the results of their regulation-rampage first-hand.
That is why the EPA tops the list of Washington bureaucrats that do not like me very much. They don’t like me because I’m working everyday to put a stop to their attack on jobs and the American worker. They don’t like that I consider one of my most important roles in Congress to stop out- of-touch bureaucrats from making decisions that take paychecks away from Ohio’s families. And they especially don’t like that I continuously pursue a legislative agenda that boosts economic growth through reducing the regulatory and tax burden.
In an article in the New York Times, I was referred to as the ‘critic-in-chief’ of the Obama Administration and the assault on our businesses in the name of clean water. I am, in fact, a critic of the Obama administration and its burdensome federal regulations that stifle economic growth, impose high costs on businesses and impede private sector investment and job creation.
If that means Washington doesn’t like me much, it’s ok because the feeling is mutual.

Rep Gibbs on ObamaCare's Mandate Ruled Unconstitutional
Release:
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Bob Gibbs released the following statement after the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that the health reform law's individual mandate is unconstitutional:
“I am pleased that Obamacare’s ‘individual mandate’ that will require all Americans to purchase health insurance has been ruled in court as unconstitutional. This measure is a radical, unprecedented overreach by Washington that violated citizen’s rights by forcing them to buy a private product whether they want to or not.
“While this decision takes a step forward, Obamacare still contains a number of provisions that will eliminate jobs, reduce hours and wages, and limit future job creation. We must continue fighting for the repeal of this job-destroying health care law and replace it with common-sense reforms that will actually lower costs and protect jobs.”

GUEST COLUMN: "EPA: Keeping "Cap and Trade" Agenda Alive" by Rep. Bob Gibbs
![]() |
| Rep. Bob Gibbs (R, OH-18) |
By Congressman Bob Gibbs (R,OH-18)
Coal and the Ohioans who depend on it are under attack. Despite failing to pass a massive “cap and trade” national energy tax last Congress, this Administration has continued to pursue a radical, anti-business agenda to regulate greenhouse gas emissions.
In the last 30 years, total air pollution has decreased by 57% while the U.S. population grew by 35% and energy consumption grew by 22%. According to the U.S. EPA, “emissions…have been reduced substantially since 1980,” showing “great progress in air quality improvement.” However, the EPA has proposed two national emission standards that would be among the most expensive regulations ever imposed on coal-fueled power plants without meaningfully improving air quality.
Thanks to these arbitrary and unreasonable standards, power providers would incur $17.8 billion per year in compliance costs alone. 15% of the nation’s coal plants will become uneconomic and be forced to shut-down prematurely by 2016, not because they are unsafe or faulty, but because bureaucrats in Washington are moving rapidly to drive up the price of coal to ultimately eradicate its use.
Here in Ohio, not only does coal supply 84% of our power, but we rely on the jobs created by the coal industry. However, it is projected that these backdoor cap and trade rules will eliminate 1.44 million jobs by 2020, including almost 54,000 jobs in Ohio. The effects to the communities will be far greater than these direct job losses alone as 11 Ohio jobs stem from every one coal job.
The extreme cost of these anti-coal mandates would also dramatically increase our electricity rates by 13% in Ohio and natural gas prices by 17% nationally. Small businesses and manufacturers will pay significantly higher energy bills as a result, and unfortunately those costs are passed along to consumers – that means you and me.
In addition to the fact that household gas and electricity rates would increase, these rules would increase our dependence on foreign oil and reduce the ability for American manufacturers to compete. Not to mention that reduced energy capacity will increase the occurrence of rolling blackouts and electrical shortages throughout the country.

Congressman Bob Gibbs Will Vote to Free Jobs and Energy from EPA’s Grasp
Release:
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Bob Gibbs issued the following statement about H.R. 2021, the Jobs and Energy Permitting Act of 2011 which is expected to be on the House floor for a vote tomorrow:“H.R. 2021 is a job saving and job creating bill. With exorbitant gas prices and unemployment stuck at 9%, I will vote for its passage to provide the American people much needed relief from the burdensome regulations imposed by the job-destroying EPA.“More American energy means more American jobs and lower energy costs. This legislation will eliminate needless permitting delays that have stalled important energy production opportunities off the coast of Alaska, helping to address soaring gas prices and create new jobs by moving forward on energy projects.“President Obama and his cronies at the EPA fail to understand that red tape and arbitrary regulations are holding economic growth hostage. We need to remove the administration’s barriers to oil and natural gas production here at home so that we can allow businesses to create more American jobs and decrease our dependence on foreign sources of energy.“This bill not only creates up to 50,000 jobs, it increases America’s energy independence by opening access to fuel off the coast of Alaska and other areas of the country. Approximately 27 billion barrels of oil and 132 trillion cubic feet of natural gas will now be accessible after years of EPA permitting delays.”

Congressman Bob Gibbs: EPA Administrator Jackson is the Biggest Stumbling Block to American Job Creation
Release:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bob Gibbs (R-OH) released the following statement regarding EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson’s comments yesterday about the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean Air Transport Rule (CATR) and Utility Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) proposals:
“Yesterday, EPA Administrator Jackson accused Michael G. Morris, chairman and chief executive officer of one of the largest electric utilities in the United States, of using scare tactics and misleading the public. She has once again managed to ignore the reality of the havoc her agency has managed to wreak on our economy.
“Administrator Jackson is the biggest stumbling block to American job creation. At a time when families are struggling to make ends meet and put food on the table, the EPA wants to take away their paychecks and shut off their lights. Congress didn't give EPA the authority to pursue an agenda that hurts the very people it's supposedly trying to protect.
“Even with these facts staring her in the face, Jackson has tried to vilify an organization that puts paychecks in over 18,000 Americans in eleven states. She refuses to believe that they know what they are talking about when they say they will be forced to lay-off nearly 600 power plant workers, totaling nearly $40 million in annual wages. Furthermore, according to a recent study by the non-partisan National Economic Research Associates Inc. (NERA), the new regulations are expected to cost 53,500 Ohio jobs and 1.44 MILLION American jobs by 2020.
“Of course, the effects to the communities will be far greater than these direct job losses alone, as electricity prices increase and nearby businesses suffer in the wake of plant closures. Not to mention that reduced energy capacity will increase the occurrence of rolling blackouts and electrical shortages throughout the country.
“In Ohio we mine coal and burn coal, and have thousands of jobs because of coal. We are proud of our coal heritage. The EPA has waged war on fossil fuels and I hope that my colleagues in Congress will join me in putting a stop to it.”

Congressman Bob Gibbs: End the Uncertainty to Create Jobs
Release:
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Bob Gibbs, a original member of the Job Creators Caucus, released the following statement in response to the National Federation of Independent Business’ report on the decline of small business optimism for the third consecutive month:
“For nearly 30 years, I ran a small business, signed the fronts of paychecks, and created jobs and opportunity for my employees. Just like other small business owners, I was always looking for ways to grow and expand my business. I made decisions about how many jobs I could create based on many factors, but the most important was economic certainty. A good time to expand was when I was confident in the market’s business conditions and policies coming out of Washington.
“But yesterday, the NFIB reported that the Small Business Optimism Index fell for the third consecutive month, showing that the unsustainable debt, massive deficits, threats of higher taxes, excessive and burdensome regulations, 23 months of record unemployment rates, and the uncertainty of the new health care law have made job creators less optimistic about the future of our economy. If small business owners are not confident, they cannot create jobs and spur the economic growth we need.
“The NFIB’s report is another sign that the Washington spending agenda needs to be reversed. The Republican Plan for America’s Job Creators contrasts Obama Administration’s failed jobs and economic policies and removes onerous federal regulations that are redundant and harmful to small businesses.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and we must get serious about cutting spending, lowering taxes and decreasing regulations to restore confidence in the private sector and create an environment for businesses to grow and create jobs.”

Rep. Gibbs: Washington's Job-Destroying Spending Spree is Over

| Rep. Bob Gibbs (R, OH-18) |
Release:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Bob Gibbs today released the following statement regarding the passage of H.R. 1, the Full Year Continuing Appropriations Act of 2011, by a vote of 235 to 189.“Last night, I voted for the largest reduction in discretionary spending in the history of our nation. H.R. 1 is over five times larger than any other discretionary cut package ever considered by the House, representing a significant and historic step towards addressing Washington’s out-of-control government spending.“The House has now done its part to begin the multi-step process to remove barriers to job creation by getting spending under control. I hope that the Senate and the President will follow. They must get to work on serious spending cuts and stop threatening to shut down the federal government so we can get this nation back on a sustainable financial path.”

Democrat Déjà Vu: Space Hasn’t Changed Much Since Supporting Failed Stimulus
NRCC Release:
Washington --- Today marks two years since the stimulus package was signed into law, riding on a wave of support from Zack Space and his former Democrat colleagues. Unfortunately, during the past two years, the $814 billion stimulus effort has failed to produce the jobs and economic recovery that had been promised. Today, as Space considers a run for his old seat, his former House Democrat allies are united under President Obama’s budget plan which proposes even more of the stimulus-style spending that will continue to add to our national debt and bring more uncertainty to small businesses trying to create jobs.“As Zack Space considers running again for his old seat, Ohioans should remember that in the two years since the stimulus was signed into law, more spending has produced more debt and fewer jobs,” said NRCC Communications Director Paul Lindsay. “Space had a hard enough time explaining why the first $814 billion stimulus package failed to create jobs. But if Space the candidate is anything like Space the Member was, then we can only assume that he would now be standing by his party supporting a budget that insists on even more spending.”The stimulus remains such a sore spot on the Democrats’ record that President Obama decided not to send anyone to defend it at a House panel on the law yesterday:“The Obama White House won’t be sending a witness to defend the economic-stimulus package before a House Oversight Committee panel Wednesday.“The committee is holding a hearing on the impact of the stimulus package, which President Barack Obama signed almost two years ago.”“Public perceptions of the package have been dismal and during the November midterm elections, many GOP candidates ran on a platform of criticizing the stimulus effort, while Democrats barely mentioned it.” (Louise Radnofsky, “White House Economists Won’t Testify on Stimulus,” The Wall Street Journal’s Washington Wire Blog, 2/15/11)Despite this, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Steve Israel has frequent conference calls with ousted Democrats seeking to reclaim their former seats:“The group, which includes members who lost their re-election bids as well as those who retired last cycle, first met during last year's lame-duck session of Congress. They now huddle by phone once or twice a month with Israel and DCCC recruiting chair Allyson Schwartz (Pa.) leading the chat. Roughly 90 percent of the Democrats who lost in 2010 participate.” (Chris Cillizza and Aaron Blake, “Steve Israel's alumni association,” Washington Post’s The Fix Blog, 2/16/11)Exactly two years have gone by since the $814 billion stimulus was signed into law, and we still face growing debt levels and abysmal job numbers. In spite of their failure, Space's former Democrat colleagues continue to push for more of the same stimulus policies they advocated for two years ago. As he considers another run, Space's former constituents in Ohio are left wondering when he and his Democrat allies will finally understand more spending is only hurting job creation.

OH-18: 60 Plus Association: Bob Gibbs is a “Fighter for the Elderly”
Release:
Lakeville, OH – The 60 Plus Association – a national non-partisan senior citizen group – selected Bob Gibbs as the recipient of the Honorary Guardian of Seniors’ Rights award. With less than two weeks to go until Election Day, this recent endorsement is evidence that the momentum is on Gibbs’ side. After supporting his party’s healthcare bill that includes substantial cuts to Medicare, it is clear that Zack Space isn’t looking out for the interests of seniors. If elected, Gibbs would continue to work hard to protect seniors’ Social Security and Medicare.
“I am honored to be granted the Honorary Guardian of Seniors’ Rights award,” said Bob Gibbs. “Protecting seniors’ Social Security and Medicare is of the upmost importance to me. If elected, I promise to continue to work tirelessly on the behalf of Eastern Ohioan seniors.”
Legendary singer and spokesman for the 60 Plus Association, Pat Boone, had the following to say about Gibbs:
“‘The Association’s Guardian Award is presented to Democrats and Republicans in Congress based on their ‘senior friendly’ voting records. The Honorary Award is given to those running for office and is based on their views on seniors’ issues.
“‘Bob Gibbs can always be counted on to protect Social Security and Medicare,’ Boone said. ‘Bob Gibbs will be a tax cutter, protecting the pocket books of senior citizens. 60 Plus calls on nearly 5.5 million seniors nationally for support, so I believe I can speak on behalf of seniors when I say that they can count on Bob Gibbs. Clearly, seniors will have no finer friend in Congress than Bob Gibbs.’” (“Music Legend Pat Boone Sings Praises of Bob Gibbs,” 60 Plus Association Press Release, 10/22/2010)

OH-18: Space Fails Eastern Ohioans, Unemployment at Unacceptably High 10 Percent
Release:
Lakeville, OH – State unemployment numbers were released this morning, and Ohio’s unemployment rate is at an unacceptable level of 10 percent today with 17,000 jobs lost in the past month, which is a clear indication that Zack Space’s job-killing agenda has failed Eastern Ohioans. Rather than seeing economic recovery, middle-class families continue to see pink slips as Ohio’s economy continues to spiral downwards. After rubberstamping a destructive economic agenda that includes a failed trillion-dollar stimulus, a cap-and-trade national energy tax and reckless spending – Space has repeatedly let middle-class families down.
“Zack Space’s destructive economic agenda has driven Ohio’s economy off a cliff,” said Gibbs Spokeswoman Emily Pettigrew. “Today’s news of Ohio’s unemployment rate hovering at an unacceptably high 10 percent is the clearest indication that Space’s time in Washington is up. As Ohio’s economy continues to struggle, will Space finally admit that unemployment is a problem?”
If elected, Bob Gibbs would focus on rebuilding the economy and putting Eastern Ohioans back to work.

OH-18: Rep. Space (D) Claims National Energy Tax is a Good Thing
Release:
Lakeville, OH – In a recent New York Times article, the Zack Space campaign again claims that the national energy tax – which Space supported – would be beneficial for Ohio industries. After previously stating that he doesn’t believe Eastern Ohio has an unemployment problem, this newest gaffe is proof-positive that Space is truly out-of-touch with the needs of Ohioans. If signed into law, Space’s national energy tax could result in more than 100,000 jobs lost and would mean higher taxes for struggling middle-class families and small business owners.
“‘That bill, the whole thing, has been about investing in the energy sector,’ Andrew Ricci, Space's campaign spokesman, said of the climate bill last week. ‘Ultimately, it's a good thing that's going to benefit those industries’ in Ohio.’” (Evan Lehmann, “In Ohio's Coal Country, Climate Policy Is a Tough Issue,” New York Times, 10/14/2010)
“Not only did Zack Space rubberstamp tax-hiking and job-killing legislation, but he’s trying to fool voters into believing it’s good for the region,” said Gibbs Spokeswoman Emily Pettigrew. “His recent comments are indicative of how he’s represented Ohio families over the past two years – out-of-touch. Now, after repeatedly supporting legislation that Eastern Ohioans flatly reject, Space may find himself out of a job this November. “
Unlike Space, Bob Gibbs soundly rejects the Democrats’ job-killing legislation. If elected, Gibbs would fight to keep energy costs low and keep hard working Ohioans in their jobs.

OH-18: United States Chamber of Commerce Endorses Gibbs for Congress
Release:
Lakeville, OH - Bob Gibbs announced today that he has received the endorsement of the United States Chamber of Commerce, the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than three million businesses and organizations of every size, sector, and region.
"It is the Chamber’s goal to help elect a pro-business Congress and work diligently in the interests of businesses large and small to advance legislation that encourages economic growth, job creation, and a less intrusive federal government,” said U.S. Chamber President and CEO Thomas Donahue. This endorsement continues the trend of job creators backing Gibbs. Gibbs has also been endorsed by the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB), the Ohio Society of CPAs, the Ohio Restaurant Association, the Business Industry PAC, and the National Association of Wholesaler Distributors.
"It's an honor to receive the endorsement of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce," said Gibbs. "While our community and country lost ground while Zack Space and Nancy Pelosi ran Congress, it's my hope to continue my partnership with the innovators, business owners, and entrepreneurs in our District to encourage increased opportunity and prosperity. Only by working together can we bring about the true recovery that the hardworking people of the 18th congressional district deserve."
A January 2010 public opinion survey conducted by Harris Interactive found that Americans rank the U.S. Chamber of Commerce among the top five best-known and respected organizations in Washington.

OH-18: Gibbs Receives Two More Endorsements
Lakeville, OH – Bob Gibbs received two more endorsements in his race for Ohio's 18th Congressional seat. The Ohio Society of CPA’s as well as the Business Industry PAC announced they support Gibbs’ candidacy.
"Given our challenging economic times, Bob Gibbs' practical small business and farming experience, combined with his extensive knowledge of our tax system, provide the background necessary to help lead our nation out of this recession and into prosperity. He would be an excellent representative for Eastern Ohioans," said Clarke Price, President and CEO of the Ohio Society of CPAs.“You know your constituents - the farms, families, and what’s needed to bring jobs and economic growth to Ohio. Your policy experience and real world know how will make you a strong voice for job creation and economic prosperity in the 112th Congress,” Gregory Casey, President and CEO of BIPAC told Gibbs.“These endorsements go to show that the business community is fed up with the status quo and are ready for a change” said Gibbs. “Businesses in the 18th district cannot survive the high tax, low impact policies that Zack Space has voted for. We need to lower taxes, reduce spending, and trim burdensome regulations so we can get people back to work.”Last week Gibbs' has also received the endorsement of the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB).

Zack Space is Having a Really Bad Week

Rough week for the Accidental Congressman...
UPDATE: Here is the press release from Team Gibbs:
Lakeville, OH - The Ohio Elections Commission today issued a ruling that recent television ads paid for by Congressman Zack Space's campaign committee contained false statements meant to obscure the record of Bob Gibbs.UPDATE 2: NRCC Comment:
"This ruling proves that Congressman Space lied to the voters of the district in an attempt to distort my record of cutting taxes for families and working to create jobs for Ohioans," said Gibbs. "We cannot trust anything that comes from Space and his campaign, as they have continued to demonstrate that they have no respect for the laws regarding fair and honest campaigning."
The Ohio Elections Commission found on both counts that Space used false statements in his TV ad.
"Space has to lie on his campaign ads to hide from the truth that unemployment in the 18th district has doubled since he took office, yet he continues to vote for job-killing legislation like the Cap-and-Trade national energy tax. We need to put the false attacks behind us and continue on with my message of putting people in the 18th district back to work in quality jobs that allow them to provide for their families," said Gibbs.
“Today’s ruling confirmed what so many voters already know: Eastern Ohioans cannot trust anything Zack Space says. He’s failed to create jobs, and he sold out his district by supporting a cap-and-trade national energy tax, even though it will crush the area’s economy. It’s clear that Zack Space has spent too much time in Washington with Speaker Pelosi because he has no regard for the values and principles of Eastern Ohio.” – Tory Mazzola, NRCC Spokesman
