About That Book Burning
I've been trying to get my head in the game on what exactly I think about this preacher in Florida wanting to burn a Koran on 9/11. I have mixed emotions on the subject, but I am opposed to it for several reasons.
First, I think General Petreaus has a point: Islamofascists, (not the cute and cuddly "moderate" Muslims who fart rainbows; but the real, hard core Muslims who like to chop heads and stuff) will use this event as an excuse to lash out at American serving around th globe.
Second, book burning is really anti-American. It just is. Sure, dude has the right to burn his personal property, but if this were really about that he wouldn't have made such a spectacle of himself. I don't like it when Islamofascists burn the American flag and/or shout "Death to America" either.
But...
I saw this article on Rasmussen that I think sums up part of why I hestitate to totally condemn the whole exercise:
I guess I'd be more supportive if this preacher man had announced his intention to burn a Koran as a response to some other event much like the Islamofascists do as standard procedure.
Just seems like a really bad idea to me though...

It may well be that I'm giving Jones too much credit, but I think he and others have been driven mad by a media-elite double standard that requires the Christian religious right to be sensitive, but not Muslims. At some point, we have to stop tolerating the violence that Muslims perpetrate on humanity. I'm not a real "eye for an eye" kind of guy, but I do think that symbolic gestures of friendship are only seen as weakness by the Islamofascists.
When the controversy involves the ground zero mosque, the elites cite the First Amendment; when the controversy draws on the free-speech rights of the devout, editorial page editors switch to the issue of tolerance.
...
There is no sense of proportion. The left portrays the religious right as extremists, if they oppose, say, abortion or same-sex marriage, while it ignores Islamic cultures' unequal and at times violent treatment of women and gays.
I guess I'd be more supportive if this preacher man had announced his intention to burn a Koran as a response to some other event much like the Islamofascists do as standard procedure.
Just seems like a really bad idea to me though...

OH-18: Gibbs - "No Mosque at Ground Zero"
Statement:
Lakeville, OH - Bob Gibbs today announced his strong opposition to the building of a mosque on 'ground zero' in New York. "We cannot allow the memories of those who lost their lives on 9/11 to be disgraced by the building of a mosque at ground zero. The President's decision ignores the will of the American people and is insensitive to victims' families," said Gibbs. This topic has been a hot one on my FaceBook Wall today...
Gibbs also called on his opponent, Congressman Zack Space, to break his silence on the issue and join him in opposing the mosque. "President Obama wants to allow the mosque, and Zack Space's silence is deafening," said Gibbs. "It is time for Congressman Space to finally separate himself from the President and break ranks because this issue is too important to our country and the families who lost loved ones on 9/11."

Gov. Strickland Wants to Subject Christian Convert to Sharia Law with her Islamic Parents...
Atlas Shrugs has been on top of this story for some time, of a girl named Rifqa who converted from islam to Christianity and fled for her life to Florida to avoid punishment from her extreme Islamic parents. Well, Ohio's Dhimmi Governor hisself, T-Shirt Ted, who received lots of contributions from the pro terror group CAIR, has sided with CAIR Ohio and has demanded that Rifqa be brought back home from the protection of authorities in Florida. Here are some salient details:
The parents in the case have now filed a case in Ohio court, giving it standing, saying Rifqa is "incorrigible." However, how can an honor sutdent be incorrigible? Oh yeah, and Rifqa has already been abused by her uncle.
This little girl is in danger, given the fates of "apostates" in America in the past (see Atlas Shrugs links for details), and this girl has allegedly been abused by a family member in Ohio, with knowledge of one of her parents. Isn't that enough to keep her in protection in Florida? Well, not if you are Ted Strickland, the former minister turned Dhimmi governor in Ohio, who bows at CAIR's feet and does what their terror sympathizing hearts command!
This girl is in serious danger. Look at those articles over at Atlas. People setting up facebook pages calling for her death, etc.? In Ohio, for heaven's sake! And our governor just bows at the altar of these terror sympathizers and religious extremists? Disgusting....John Kasich, what do you say about the Rifqa issue? Paging Mr. Kasich, Mr. John Kasich.....
Gov. Ted Strickland's office says Ohio officials can protect Fathima Rifqa Bary, who ran away from her Muslim parents to Christian evangelists in Orlando
The office of Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland has issued a statement, saying the teenage girl who ran away from her Muslim home in Columbus, Ohio, to evangelical Christians in Orlando, should be returned.
"Child welfare agencies and authorities in Ohio and Franklin County are fully capable of providing for the security and well-being of Ohio's children," said the statement. "The governor believes this is a family matter and therefore would most appropriately be handled here in Ohio with the assistance of the child welfare and foster care system."

OBL Says Pope Benny Responsible for Cartoon Crusade

Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden threatened the European Union with grave punishment on Wednesday over cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad.I think OBL ought to put the Religion o' Peace pipe down...Pope Benny is on OBL's side...at least when it comes to Iraq...
In an audio recording posted on the Internet, Bin Laden said the cartoons were part of a "crusade" in which he said the Catholic Pope Benedict was involved.
While I think Pope Benny is wrong when it comes to his views on Iraq, he has been a strong advocate for the Catholic faith. And that represents a real threat to OBL and his Islamofascist thugs all over the world. Now, if Pope Benny would only see Islamofascism for the threat that it is maybe his views on Iraq would make a little more sense.
Now before the usual suspects call me anti-Catholic for saying it like it is...I'm entitled, having been born and raised in the faith.

Iran: Brits Admit they Violated Security

OK folks, but what have those Islamofascist sadists done to them? How many times has the female soldier been raped? Why isn't the media asking to see the detainees and their cells? Why aren't we calling for the closing of Iran's interrogation or questioning thier methods of interrogation? Why aren't we asking they show us their secret prisons?
Surprisingly the EU, aka the future caliphate of Europe, has actually condemned Iran and has demanded the return of the soldiers.
But, again, to no one's surprise, that is all they will do.
The United States, however, has already begun ramping up forces in the area, with the thoughts of a show of force. I am sure the left is immediately emailing the mullahs their support against our Navy.
What is the deal with this whole dilemma? Thank Saddam Hussein, Khomeini, and the instability of the region.
You see,
The seizure of the Britons took place in an area where boundaries between Iraqi and Iranian waters have long been disputed. A 1975 treaty set the center of the Shatt al-Arab — the 125-mile-long channel known in Iran as the Arvand River — as the border.
But Saddam Hussein canceled the 1975 treaty five years later and invaded Iran, triggering an eight-year war. Virtually all of Iraq’s oil is exported through a terminal near the mouth of the channel.
Britain’s Defense Ministry said the Royal Navy personnel were in Iraqi territorial waters when they were seized. Cmdr. Kevin Aandahl of the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain also said it was “very clear” they were in Iraqi waters.
“We’ve been on operations there for several years,” Aandahl said. He said coalition vessels respect the 1975 treaty.
What is Iran's purpose in this ? Of course, it is trying to scare the West into concessions. The Mullahs have been watching CNN and others and are seeing the disrepair and fragmentation over the military going on. They hearing the Dems message of cut and run very loudly and want to exploit it.

Middle East Update
AP News Alert:
NABLUS, West Bank (AP) Palestinian security officials say three American women kidnapped in the West Bank have been released.I didn't even know that Americans had been kidnapped... At any rate, there used to be a time when something like this would be reason enough for war...a few missile strikes at least...

John Howard on Obama: Al Queda Should Pull for Him

LAURIE OAKES: Proposition two for your comment: Australians are increasingly opposed to the Iraq War, and it's starting to bite electorally, undermining the advantage you've had over Labor on national security issues?
JOHN HOWARD: Once again commentary but I'll address the substance of the issue. The Australian people have always been, when you ask them in a poll, against our involvement in Iraq. I accept that. As one of the answers I give to those who say I'm a poll-driven politician. It was about the least poll-driven decision I've taken in my entire political life but I believed in it; I believed Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. So, incidentally did Mr Rudd. Mr. Rudd in fact said it was an empirical fact that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. His argument with us was whether we should have tried to get another United Nations resolution but I've got to now look at the current situation, and the impact on the alliance, the impact on the future of Iraq, if we were to get up and go, and Mr Rudd can't slip and slide and have it both ways, as he tried to do this morning. You either go or you stay, you either rat on the ally or stay with the ally, it's as simple as that. And, if it's alright for us to go, it's alright for the Americans and the British to go, and if everybody goes Iraq will descend into total civil chaos ...
LAURIE OAKES: On that very subject,
JOHN HOWARD: …and there'll be a lot of bloodshed.
LAURIE OAKES: On that subject, Senator Barack Obama's announced overnight he's running for the Democrat Presidential nomination, and he says if he gets it he has a plan to bring troops home by March, 2008 and his direct quote is "Letting the Iraqis know we'll not be there forever is our last, best hope to pressure the Sunies and Shiah to come to the table and find peace". So, basically he's agreeing with the Labor Party.
JOHN HOWARD: Yes, I think he's wrong, I mean, he's a long way from being President of the United States. I think he's wrong. I think that would just encourage those who wanted completely to destabilise and destroy Iraq, and create chaos and victory for the terrorists to hang on and hope for Obama victory. If I was running Al-Qaeda in Iraq, I would put a circle around March 2008, and pray, as many times as possible, for a victory not only for Obama, but also for the Democrats.
LAURIE OAKES: If he wins, and you're still there, bad news for the alliance.
JOHN HOWARD: Well I tell you what would be even worse news for the fight against terrorism, if America is defeated in Iraq. I mean, we have to understand what we are dealing with. We're dealing here with a situation where if America pulls out of Iraq in March 2008. It can only be in circumstances of defeat. There's no way by March 2008, which is a little over a year from now, everything will have been stabilised so that America can get out in March 2008. And, if America is defeated in Iraq, the hope of ever getting a Palestinian settlement will be gone. There'll be enormous conflict between the Shi'a and the Sunnis throughout the whole of the Middle East. Saudi Arabia and Jordan will both be (destabilised), Al-Qaeda will trumpet it as the greatest victory they've ever had and that will have implications in our region because of the link, the ideological link at the very least, between the Al-Qaeda and JI.
OK, first, let me say that it appears John Howard is a good, decent man who is not afraid, unlike our politicians to call someone on their ignorance. Unlike our politicians PM Howard names the opposition and makes passionate and reasoned arguments, calling them wrong, not just saying we have a difference of opinion.
I think it is telling that one of our allies has observed that Obama and/or the Democrats winning in 08 would be a disaster not just for the US, but for the world. Howard correctly surmises what Obama's plans would be, as well as the Democrat agenda, and he has the courage to speak out and call it. John Howard understands the nature of the Global War on Terror, and he understands what defeat and weakness in Iraq will do to bolster al Queda and other islamofascist groups.
Kudos to Mr. Howard, and thank you, sir, for being such a great and noble ally.
Of course, Howard's comments have been met with calls for apology. If this were President Bush, he would have had Obama over and done some photo ops, and probably would have allowed him to help draft new education legislation or social security legislation (that new tone worked out so well, didn't it Mr. President?). But not John Howard. He is standing by his comments, and I say, more power to him. Not only is he entitled to his opinion, he is dead-on right!
