The Good
The Bad
The Ugly
WASHINGTON ---- Congressman Allen West (FL-22) released this statement today after voting yes for H. Con. Resolution 51 by Congressman Dennis Kucinich, which directs President Obama to remove the United States Armed Forces from Libya no later than 15 days after the adoption of this concurrent resolution:
"Since the opening hours of military action on March 19th, President Barack Obama has had no clear direction in Libya. The President has not defined the mission nor the end state of this conflict. Further, the President has not identified who the so-called rebels are that continue to receive millions of dollars of American support in terms of weapons, ammunition, and resources. As a 22-year Army combat veteran, I can tell you from experience that successful mission completion is obtained by properly defining the very things I have mentioned, which President Obama has failed to do. We cannot continue this 'mission creep' kind of warfare.
It has now been 74 days since President Obama informed Congress on the introduction of American forces into Libya as required by the War Powers Resolution. Since March 21st, Congress has not declared war or enacted a specific authorization for the use of force, and has not extended the 60-day period required by the War Powers Resolution.
President Barack Obama is in violation of the law – plain and simple – and he must be held accountable. We don't need to give the President anymore time. Many Americans, myself included, still don't understand how America is benefitting from having forces in Libya in the first place. The very foundation of our Republic lies on the system of checks and balances, and as a Member of the United States Congress, I have a Constitutional obligation to ensure this system is upheld."
......which is a real shame since at least one sexual assault occured right here in Ohio at the Dayton Internal Airport.
Here is the Trakas Energy Plan:Kucinich Goes on Vacation, Offers No Solutions to Energy
CLEVELAND, OHIO – Former State Representative Jim Trakas today unveiled his comprehensive plan to address America’s energy crisis. The 10th District Congressional candidate visited with local residents at a local Rapid Transit Authority rail station to discuss his proposal to lower gas and food costs while pointing out that federal investment in Greater Cleveland’s infrastructure, including quality public transportation that could serve as a less expensive alternative for getting to and from work, has continually declined during Kucinich’s nearly 12 years in Congress.
“Greater Clevelanders need real solutions to rising energy prices. It should surprise no one that Congressman Kucinich and his colleagues have earned a single-digit approval rating, given their failure to address the high costs of putting gas in our cars and food on our families’ tables,” said Trakas. “While Congress has departed on a five-week vacation without providing relief to America’s energy challenges, I have outlined a substantive plan to address these issues and to help get the northeast Ohio economy moving again.”
The 10-point Trakas Energy Plan provides Americans near-term relief to pain at the pump and in the grocery store – and offers long-term solutions to move our country in the direction of energy independence:Increase Domestic Oil Production Expand Refinery Capacity Develop Fuel Cell Technology Invest in Solar and Wind Expand Clean Coal Technology Reconsider and Utilize Nuclear Power Partner with Automobile Manufacturers Expand Natural Gas Use End the Ethanol Subsidy Develop a National Policy on Energy
Conversely, Congressman Kucinich recently mailed a “Community Update” to 10th District residents revealing his “5 Tips for Reducing Gas Costs,” which included driving the speed limit and accelerating gently. He also introduced the Gas Price Spike Act of 2008, a bill that would impose a windfall profit tax on oil companies and, if enacted, would result in higher gas prices as these new levies would be passed along to consumers.
“Altering our driving styles and raising our taxes are not real solutions America’s energy challenges,” stated Trakas. “It is well past time for our nation to take charge of this issue and get on the road toward energy independence, using the classic strengths of American manufacturing, technology, and innovation.”
Previously on WMD, we reported the fact that Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH-03) had voted with Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Pluto) on the idea of impeaching the President of the United States, George W. Bush.
Instead of using their time wisely by doing something to lower the price of gasoline or passing the troop funding bill, House Democrats wasted five hours listening to Dennis Kucinich (D-Neptune) drone on about articles of impeachment that will NEVER see the light of day in the United States Senate.“Last night, the Democrats who control the House floor could have done a lot of things. They could have brought legislation to the floor to increase the supply of American energy and lower gas prices. They could have brought legislation to the floor to give our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan the money they need – money the military requested over a year ago, and money that they needed before Memorial Day. They could have brought up bipartisan legislation to protect our country by modernizing FISA. They could have helped our economy by leveling the playing field for American farmers and other exporters by bringing up the Colombia Free Trade Agreement. Instead, they spent nearly five hours listening to Rep. Dennis Kucinich talk about his rather fantastical theories about the President. Tonight, they plan to do the same thing again. This is just another example of the Democratic Leadership in the House indulging trivial and silly conspiracy theories from left-wing bloggers, rather than working with Republicans to deal with the real issues facing the American people.”I think Kucinich ought to remember what happened the last time somebody brought impeachment charges against a sitting president... Actually, going ahead with this charade just might bring President Bush's approval numbers back up.
Father’s Day; Christmas; Grandma’s Hugs;
Not Far Behind?
( INDEPENDENCE ) Continuing a theme that is becoming all too familiar, Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-10) found himself as one of only eight members of the House of Representatives who voted Thursday, May 15th against H.R. 5872, a resolution honoring Boy Scouts of America with a commemorative coin.
Former State Representative and U.S. House Candidate Jim Trakas commented on the resolution stating, “I am on the Boy Scouts side. The Boy Scouts of America has long been an institution for boys to learn about nature, friendship, leadership and volunteerism. These are traits I am proud to see in our young men.”
Trakas was confused when learning of Kucinich’s vote, “I have a hard time understanding how anyone could vote against honoring the Boy Scouts of America. However, it makes sense when you understand that Congressman Kucinich voted against a resolution honoring the first responders and victims of The September 11th Terrorist Attacks as well as voting against implementing a nationwide Amber Alert system.”
Trakas continued, “Sadly, Congressman Kucinich has been spending too much time with his rich Hollywood friends to realize that those of us in Greater Cleveland admire the Boy Scouts and appreciate the values that scouting instills. They may not be weird Hollywood values, but they are Cleveland values!” commented Trakas, whose big brother was a Cub Scout.
Trakas is sending a letter to Scout Leaders throughout Greater Cleveland asking them to seek an explanation for this vote. “What part of The Scout’s Law of ‘A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent’ does Congressman Kucinich disagree with? Trakas noted that he frequently attended Eagle Scout recognition ceremonies as a Member of The Ohio House of Representatives.
“This is yet another example of Congressman Kucinich voting Hollywood values over Cleveland values,” Trakas concluded.
From the AP:LAS VEGAS — A Nevada judge said Monday that Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich must be included in Tuesday’s candidates’ debate in Nevada.
Senior Clark County District Court Judge Charles Thompson said if Kucinich is excluded, he’ll issue an injunction stopping the televised debate.
The judge sided with a lawyer for the Ohio congressman, who says debate host MSNBC at first invited Kucinich to take part and then told him last week he couldn’t.
A lawyer for the network said MSNBC decided to go with the top three candidates after the Iowa and New Hampshire primaries.
The judge called it a matter of fairness and said Nevada voters will benefit if they hear from more than just Hillary Rodham Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards.
I actually can't stand Pizza Hut's product because I think it is the greasiest on the market and that doesn't set well with me...but this ad has got the Crazy Kucinich space aliens all ticked off, so I have to support that!
The Investor's Business Daily has an editorial that puts to bed any notion that the All-Night Fiesta Party that the Democrats threw in the United States Senate this week failed to achieve its stated objective. I continue to believe that the entire show was nothing more than a Democrat fundraiser...and if that doesn't turn your stomach, I don't know what will.Iraq: Instead of all-night pajama parties and obtuse legislative ploys, why can't Democrats be honest and just shut off war funding? Answer: They know it would betray our troops and turn Iraq into a slaughterhouse. If Democrats were serious about ending the war, they would cut the funding. They won't do that because Congress has the worst approval rating in history and if they do that, the American people will make sure that they reach Bob Taft territory. So all of this bluster is nothing more than a ploy to placate the base of the Democrat Party that really wants America to lose this war.
Rep. Dennis Kucinich is one of the most left-leaning presidential candidates ever, but at least he's honest. Earlier this month, when the House passed the sure-to-be-vetoed "Responsible Redeployment From Iraq Act," Kucinich was one of only 10 Democrats to oppose it.
"This bill will not end the war," the Ohio Democrat pointed out. Instead, "We must inform the administration that the $97 billion appropriated last month is the end of the financing for the war."
He went on: "We could have our troops home by October 1st. The question is whether we're ready to take a stand to do that, or whether we're going to vote on resolutions that give the American people the appearance that we want to end the war, without actually addressing the central issue that will end the war. Stop the funding."
What an embarrassment for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who just presided over a Senate slumber party regarding Iraq .
Hill and the Breck Girl want to limit debating for the Presidency, and exclude "lower rivals." First of all, where does the Breck Girl get off in saying that he is a frontrunner? He is a joke. Secondly, why should we be deprived of the entertainment of listening to Kook Talk with Dennis Kucinich? Here are some tidbits:Democrats John Edwards and Hillary Rodham Clinton consider themselves among the top presidential candidates.
They were caught by Fox News microphones discussing their desire to limit future joint appearances to exclude some lower rivals after a forum in Detroit Thursday.
Edwards says, "We should try to have a more serious and a smaller group."
Clinton agrees, saying, "We've got to cut the number" and "they're not serious." She also says that she thought their campaigns had already tried to limit the debates and say, "We've gotta get back to it."
Others taking part in the forum sponsored by the NAACP were Senators Barack Obama, Chris Dodd and Joe Biden, Congressman Dennis Kucinich, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson and former Alaska Senator Mike Gravel.
WASHINGTON, May 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In response to reports that Senator Hillary Clinton plans to support a bill deauthorizing the Iraq War on October 11th, Congressman Dennis Kucinich said:Commodore Decker's Planet Killer painted herself into a corner with this one..."Now that Senator Clinton supports deauthorization, will she support defunding the war? When someone votes to fund the war 100 percent of the time and then says she supports deauthorization, it looks like a gimmick. Last week she voted to fund the war again. Every time she votes to fund the war she reauthorizes it. The true test of her commitment to ending the war is whether she'll vote to stop funding it. Congress will soon be faced with yet another decision on whether or not to fund the war. Let's see how Senator Clinton votes, to see if she is to be believed."Congressman Dennis Kucinich opposed the war from the start and has voted 100 percent of the time against funding it. When President Bush vetoed the recent funding bill, Kucinich was the only member of the House to vote Present. He did so because he objected to the Congressional Democrats' position and to Bush's position. Kucinich has a plan to end the war: HR 1234.
WASHINGTON, April 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Presidential candidate and US Congressman Dennis Kucinich today challenged Senator Barack Obama's assertion, made in an exchange with Kucinich in yesterday's Democratic Presidential Debate in Orangeburg, South Carolina, that Iran is in the process of developing nuclear weapons.Unbelievable...
"In last night's debate, Senator Obama revealed that he has fallen into the same trap which wrongly took us into war against Iraq. In one breath he conjured Iran as a threat: ('But, have no doubt, Iran possessing nuclear weapons will be a major threat to us and to the region.')
"And in the next breath he asserted that according to experts, Iran is developing nuclear weapons: ' . . . but they're in the process of developing it. And I don't think that's disputed by any expert.' Where is Senator Obama's proof for such a provocative statement?" Kucinich asked.
Kucinich said that in the exchange with Senator Obama he tried to interject the fact that Mohammed El Baradei of the International Atomic Energy Agency, recently asserted " ... the difference between acquiring knowledge and having a bomb is at least five to ten years away. And that's why I said the intelligence, the British, intelligence, the American intelligence, is saying that Iran is still years, five to ten years away from developing a weapon. "
Senator Obama's assertion is eerily reminiscent of the statements of President George Bush, Vice President Cheney and other top ranking members of the Bush Administration, who, back in 2002 and 2003 falsely claimed Iraq was a threat to the United States and our allies, that Iraq was developing weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons capability.
Kucinich at the time wrote and circulated an analysis http://kucinich.us/iraqplan of all false claims made by the Bush Administration. "Clearly all other Senators running for President failed to read the easily accessible intelligence reports, hence their alleged 'mistaken' vote to invade Iraq," said Kucinich, the only Democratic Presidential candidate to vote against both the authorization for war and any funding of the war.
"While Iran has taken steps to develop nuclear power, which is the right of all signatories to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, there is absolutely no evidence whatsoever they are developing nuclear weapons," explained Kucinich.
"Senator Obama's doctrine with respect to Iran is 'All options are on the table,' which is unmistakably a euphemism for the consideration of a preemptive attack against Iran, including the use of nuclear weapons, which the Administration has shipped to the region. Senator Obama's rhetoric parrots speeches given by both President Bush and Vice President Cheney, as well as Democratic Presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and John Edwards regarding Iran."
"When you consider that last month the Congress took out of the Iraq Supplemental appropriation a provision that would have required congressional approval of a military attack on Iran, Senator Obama's faulty analysis and his mischaracterizations license an attack. This is the same kind of disastrous, faulty thinking that led us into war against Iraq and raises serious questions about Senator Obama's judgement on matters of national security."
Kucinich has long advocated reestablishing diplomatic ties with Iran as a means of deescalating tensions, opening up full diplomatic relations, resuming meaningful inspections of Iran's nuclear power program, and enlisting Iran's support in helping to end the war in Iraq.
For weeks now, we've been hearing about how Dennis the Menace was going to stick it to Darth HALLIBURTON!. However, Little Denny can't seem to pull the trigger as events keep stepping on his The Dennis Kucinich presidential campaign website will be closed for 24 hours in mourning for those who died today at Virginia Tech University, and for those who are dying everyday in the violence which besets our nation and our world.Uhh...okay.
Congressman Dennis Kucinich, his wife Elizabeth Kucinich, and all of the members of the campaign staff and volunteers offer their deepest sympathies to the families who have suffered great loss and to the students who have been injured in this profoundly tragic day in America.
