Rumsfeld on Iraq Stabliization Group

...Rumsfeld insisted that over the last five months, the U.S. military and the Coalition Provision Authority have made tremendous progress despite a situation he described as "probably unmatched in history.

"We have the schools open, have the hospitals operating, have the universities functioning, have a new currency, have a central bank, have no humanitarian crisis in terms of hunger. We do not have tens of thousands of internally displaced people or refugees."

Matt's Chat

The secretary outlines the success that the Pentagon has had to to date on this project. I think Condi has her hands full trying to fill these shoes.

Mark's Remarks

I think Rumsfeld should be proud. For being an organization that is supposed to fight and defend, the Pentagon did a great job. I think Condi will continue to use those resources as head of this new group, and the Pentagon will play a vital role....After all, in a few months, they did more than the UN has done for the people of Iraq in 13 years. I think this makes the rebuilding look more open, not that it wasn't but the Admin wants that appearance to be made public, because that will be one less thing for the liberal press to gripe about. I hope the national media took notes on what happened to the LA Times, with thousands cancelling subscriptions, and realizes that purveying the hatred and vitriol and unwise rumors about a President may backfire.....I hope it does......
