Note to Athletes: Your Game is not a War

In more further displays of ignorance and stupidity, a college player lashed out after a disappointing loss with comments about his being a soldier in a war....Read some about it here....and his prepared apology.

Mark's Remarks

Yet another display of the failure of teaching student athletes in big time programs. Now they are comparing a stupid football game to men and women dying in war, AND DURING A TIME OF WAR, no less. If Mr. Winslow wants to see what real war is like, feel free to enlist. In his statement which I am sure was prepared FOR him, and which was issued to the media, he said he has no clue about the hardship in war. Well, in that, whoever wrote it for him got it right.

Then, his coach comes in and says he is benched for excessive penalties, not for these assinine comments. Give me a break. He SHOULD be benched for these comments, and he should have to go see wounded veterans and tell them about how he is such a mighty warrior and his game is a war; and see what he gets from that.

This is a small glimpse at the massive overexaggeration of importance of sport. Athletes think they are gods, and we help by forgiving them so easily for some of the most vile comments and stupidity. What should be done is that this man should be made an example of for all college students, so they learn that war is not meant to be joked about, and that games come nowhere near to war. Mr. Winslow should express more shame than this obviously contrived statement. With college athetics today, you wonder if Athletic Departments have these made up as form letters and just fill in a few blanks when yet another athlete acts stupid.
