Dean Blames Bush for Spain

From the Boston Globe:
Former Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean said yesterday that President Bush's decision to send troops to Iraq appears to have contributed to the bombing deaths of 201 people in Spain.

A growing international investigation is focusing on Islamic militants possibly linked to Al Qaeda as those responsible for the Madrid train bombings on Thursday.

European intelligence agencies are trying to identify a purported Al Qaeda operative who claimed in a videotape that the group carried out the bombings to punish Spain for backing the US-led war in Iraq.

Dean referred to the videotape when asked whether he was linking US troops in Iraq to the deaths in Spain.

"That was what they said in the tape," Dean said. "They made that connection, I'm simply repeating it."

Dean made the remarks during a conference call with reporters as he was defending his former rival John F. Kerry, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, from a Bush campaign ad. The ad accused Kerry of turning his back on US soldiers fighting in Iraq.
Kerry Says He Doesn't Agree

From My Way News (AP)
Presidential candidate John Kerry said Wednesday he does not share fellow Democrat Howard Dean's position that President Bush's decision to send troops to Iraq appears to have been a factor in the Spanish train bombing.

The chairman of Bush's re-election campaign called on Kerry to repudiate the comment that Dean made during a conference call arranged by the Kerry campaign.

"The president was the one who dragged our troops to Iraq, which apparently has been a factor in the death of 200 Spaniards over the weekend," Dean said as he defended Kerry from a Bush television ad that accused Kerry of turning his back on U.S. soldiers fighting in Iraq.

Asked about the comment on his campaign plane Wednesday, Kerry said, "It's not our position."
Bush Campaign Responds

From the Drudge Report:
"Yesterday on a conference call arranged by Sen. Kerry's campaign, former Gov. Howard Dean blamed the deaths in Spain on President Bush and the War on Terror. The attacks were caused by a global terror network that not only struck Spain, but also killed in the United States, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Bali. If Senator Kerry understands the nature of this threat and the need to take on terror, then he should immediately repudiate these troubling comments, and stop all efforts on behalf of his surrogates to blame America for these attacks."

Matt's Chat

These kinds of things illustrate exactly why Howard Dean wasn't fit to run for president. These comments send the wrong message to the world. Dean absolves the terrorists of any wrongdoing when he lays blame on the guy leading the fight against terrorists. I usually don't advocate lawsuits, but I would consider it in this case... Your right to free speech ends when it infringes upon the rights of another. We need to come together as Americans and fight back. We don't need another devisive Democrat spouting off at the mouth with more lies and vitriol.

Mr Kerry's denial is about as believeable as when he "voted for it before voting against it." How much nuance is there in this situation Ketchup Boy? You need to come out and denounce not only the comment, but Mr. Dean's support of you. I certainly would respect you a bit more if you did that.

The Republican response was right on the mark. Mr. Kerry should face some serious questions about Mr. Dean's support and his comments. If he doesn't, it will be because the Partisan Media (tm) isn't interested in getting the right guy...

Mark's Remarks

But, of course, the media will give Kerry a pass on this one, just like everything else. It was said by a supporter, who had no direct influence from Mr. Kerry, and everyone is entitled to say what they want.....besides, Mr. Dean is simply passionate. DOES THIS CRAP SOUND FAMILIAR???? It is the same crap we get everytime a liberal flubs up and the Partisan Media (tm) does their best to try and cover for the liberals when they reveal their true, BLAME AMERICA first feelings. Mr. Dean, you are a disgrace to the state of Vermont, and you are disgrace to the once great party of Scoop Jackson and Truman.

If there were any reason left in the Dimcrapic party, they would denounce this idiot, starting with Terry McAwful and then candidate Kerry. But, of course, they are not held to the fire by the media, so why bother? People, we need to start holding Johnny Liar to the fire and make him reveal himself to be the elitist huckster he is, like he did when confronted by Cedric Brown.

Dr. Dean, why don't you prescribe yourself some shut up pills and fade into the pages of political idiocy?
