Gas Prices - Blame Bush
From the Washington Times:The Bush administration was criticized yesterday for not acting to curb escalating oil prices even as the price of gasoline at the pump rose to a record high nationwide.
At a hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham said the administration would not temporarily stop filling the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to help lower oil prices and it would not publicly call on OPEC to roll back production cuts scheduled for April 1.
"We've ... made clear we're not going to beg for oil," said Mr. Abraham, although he later told reporters that the administration has been working behind the scenes to try to bring prices down.
Matt's Chat
No word about drilling in ANWR...And so much for that "War for Oil" meme...although I'm sure there are some hamsters out there who will spout the ridiculous idea that somehow Halliburton is making tons of money on all this and that that was the plan all along because, you know, Dick Cheney is really in charge (or is it Karl Rove? or Rumsfeld? or Bill Kristol? - I just can't keep up with all the Tin-Foil Hat Brigade black helicopter theories) and he gets all the money. Or something like that.
Average gas prices in California and some other states already are well above $2. The record gas prices reflect sharp increases in the price of crude oil, which hit a 13-year high of $38.15 a barrel last week in New York trading. Here's a clue...MOVE. We're paying about $1.80 today here in Cincinnati...
here is another culprit:
California, New York and some other states have imposed stringent new requirements for summer-grade gasoline this year that will drive the already-high prices in those states to unprecedented levels — some say near $3 a gallon.Yep. Government regulation. It drives the cost of EVERYTHING, including (SURPRISE!) gasoline.
Mark's Remarks
Yep, blame Bush. He is protesting opening up ANWR, he is protesting exploring reserves off the coast of Texas and Mexico. Yep, he is in fact behind OPEC. Sure, and if you believe this nonsense, I have an authentic John Kerry spine that he had back in 71. Just kidding, not sure if he ever had a spine, but I think you get my point.
