Earth Day Candidate Reflections

From Perry on Politics:
[The post starts with a description of John Kerry's "finer things" and then moves on to this...]Then there is President Bush. According to David Frum, author of The Right Man:

After finishing a speech practice in the Map Room one afternoon, he [Bush] pointed with exasperation at a table lamp and demanded: "Do you think it's going to occur to anybody to turn that lamp off when we leave the room?" And he walked over and flicked it off himself.

Frum then goes on to write:

The house he [Bush] built on his Crawford ranch was a showcase of enviro technology. Cold underground water was tapped and piped to cool the limestone walls in summer without the use of air-conditioning, and the house was positioned to be warmed by the sun in the winter. Bathwater was captured, treated, and reused. Lawn grass was replaced with western wild grasses that consumed less water; the little water the new plants needed was provided through a sophisticated system of cisterns and sprinklers that relied on rainwater, not the underground aquifier. The main fuel for the ranch's trucks and other vehicles was propane, which emits 90% less carbon monoxide than gasoline.
There you have two stories about two different attitudes. Both are men of privilege. But one appears to have a personal commitment to the conservation of energy. The media gives the one credit because he goes around promising that if he were elected he would make everthing pristine. While the other one quietly goes around and leads by example. I had never heard this story about Bush, and most probably never will.

Mark's Remarks

As I said a few days ago, libs are good at hand wringing, feeling your pain, making flowery speeches, and doing nothing. Republicans, especially men like George W. Bush, may not amaze you with verbosity, but they speak from the heart and they lead by example. They get things done. Frum's story speaks volumes about that.

And what do we have on the Kerry side? A man who owns FIVE MANSIONS, THE LARGEST GULFSTREAM PRIVATE JET AVAILABLE (gas guzzler), A HUMONGOUS YACHT(eating gas), A FLEET OF SUVs to roam his grounds on, AND this is one of the people who tells us about alternative energy, even as he has joined the move to be against putting windfarms on Cape Cod because it would lower his property value? Where is the determination, where is the dedication to the environment, Johnny Boy? I don't see any. It just goes to show, these liberal whackos are hypocrites, telling us how to live even as they squander and pollute far more than we do.
