Not Just a Catholic Problem

From the AP via DDN
Victims of a former Lutheran minister who sexually molested boys won a jury award of nearly $37 million Thursday, bringing the total payout in the case to about $69 million.
...
There have been few publicly disclosed claims of abuse against ELCA ministers. But victims' advocates have drawn parallels between the Thomas case and lawsuits against Catholic dioceses in recent years.

Matt's Chat

I had no idea this was going on... Should I be surprised? Am I? Not really... Is it still a tragedy? You betcha.

Is this a scandal for the Lutherans at the same level as the Catholics? Well, that depends on how widespread the evil is and what the Church leadership is doing about it. There isn't enough information here to be able to determine those answers.

Mark's Remarks

Matt, in every religion, you are going to find those who hide behind the Cloth to subvert children and who pervert the Church, or synagogue, or mosque. It is a shame, but we are all fallen people. However, these people should be dealt with, excommunicated, and defrocked. Nuff said.
