France Update

From the BBC:
France says it does not support US plans for international sanctions on Sudan if violence continues in Darfur.
...
Some one million people have fled their homes and at least 10,000 have been killed in what the UN calls "the world's worst humanitarian crisis."

A rebellion broke out in Darfur early last year, when two groups took up arms, accusing the government of ignoring the region.

"In Darfur, it would be better to help the Sudanese get over the crisis so their country is pacified rather than sanctions which would push them back to their misdeeds of old," junior Foreign Minister Renaud Muselier told French radio.

France led opposition to US moves at the UN over Iraq, and as in Iraq the US also has significant oil interests in Sudan.

Matt's Chat

HALLIBURTON! Oil after oil, after oil, after oil. I demand an investigation! HALLIBURTON! HALLIBURTON! HALLIBURTON!

Is there any genocidal maniac/regime that France won't shelter from justice? Just asking...

These people make me ill...

Mark's Remarks

Quote: "...as in Iraq the US also has significant oil interests in Sudan...."
COME ON!!!! This is blatant bull! The oil in Iraq was nationalized, so therefore how could the United States have any significant oil interests in Iraq? Were we interested that it was controlled by a terror supporting dictator bent on our destruction? Yes, but that does not mean we have "oil interests" in Iraq. This is blatant misdirection and shoddy reporting to make that mythical argument of war for oil have credence.

It is a lie. That quote is a lie. But, I guess it is ok to let people stand by and be massacred as long as you don't have oil interests, right Jack Iraq? Wait, the FRENCH had TREMENDOUS interest in Iraqi oil, at least according to the investigations into the Oil for Food scandal. And, even before sanctions, the French had tremendous interests, even going so far as to provide nuke tech to Iraq (by Chirac, no less)that was thankfully destroyed by the Israelis in the 1980s.

This article is insulting in its insipid and bogus charges against the US at the end. The fact of the matter is France hates the US getting involved because every time we do, we end up revealing the French to be nothing more than profiteers on suffering, just as they profitted from the Oil for Food scandal, just as they were violating weapons embargoes on Iraq during the time between Gulf War I and II, all for the sake of money and their own avarice. France is no friend to freedom, no friend to humanitarian causes. The government there cares only for its own power and avarice, and while claiming to be all about libertad, they care only for the money. They are afraid that we will find more french roots of corruption and oppression, just as we found them in Iraq.
