Kerry/Edwards on Tort Reform & Health Care

By Matt Hurley for the TIB Network:

"If Dick Cheney spent even half as much energy on lowering health care costs as getting Halliburton their no-bid contracts, then health insurance wouldn't have risen 40 percent under this Administration. Their last ditch effort here won't cut health care costs. It's too little, too late. Kerry and Edwards are serious about making health care affordable. They've got a plan to cut the cost of health care and reform the system so it works for patients as well as doctors," said Kerry campaign spokesman, Chad Clanton.

Okay, Chad, here we go...let's see if you can follow along...

Here is the President's health care plan and accomplishments. With John Edwards on the ticket, who honestly thinks that Kerry/Edwards would actively persue tort reform? Getting the lawyers out of health care is the only way to reign in health care costs. Socialized medicene is NOT the answer.

HALLIBURTON! is not the scandal that you all continue to make it out to be. In fact one could make the argument that Kerry/Edwards is abusing the dead horse it continues to whip.

Chad of the Kerry/Edwards campaign cites as evidence that the Bush/Cheney Medical Malpractice plan won't work, the 2003 Weiss Report. The American Medical Association analysis of this report is that it is "littered with flawed methodology, undocumented assertions, and erroneous conclusions." (Secondary Source) Here is my favorite bit, Chad, what do you think?:
The AMA strongly supports high quality research into America's medical liability crisis. As an undocumented collection of anti-tort reform rhetoric without basis in evidence or logic, the Weiss paper fails to even qualify as research and warrants no serious consideration. America's lawmakers face a choice: Pass medical liability reforms and protect patient access to care or allow the status quo to disrupt and destroy health care in the United States.
Chad ends the release with the charge that Bush/Cheney has received $12 million from the insurance industry. I wonder if Chad knows that Kerry/Edwards has received at least $11.05 million from the lawyers. (Source - the SAME source that Chad used)
