From the San Mateo Daily Journal:
San Mateo residents who want to park cars on the streets of their own neighborhoods may soon have to pay a fee.
The proposal is to charge residents a $20 fee for a two-year residential parking permit, said Public Works Director Larry Patterson. The idea is to recoup the money the city loses every year in maintaining residential parking policies in 14 areas throughout the city. Right now, processing each permit costs about $35 — that includes the labor it costs to maintain the permit parking policies.
If passed, Patterson said the new policy would take effect in 2005.

Here's my favorite:“We found people aren’t real wild about being charged for a service they’re getting for free right now,” Patterson said.We pay enough in taxes already...when will these guys get that?
Maybe we shouldn't have covered this story...RINO Gov. Bob "Tax" Taft is still in office here in Ohio...this may give him ideas...
Mark's Remarks
You see, many people out there fall prey to the socialist lie that Government provides these things to us, that the government 'gives' them to us. WE PAY FOR ALL OF IT!!!! In our taxes, in our auto bills, we pay for it. See, that is what the big mistake is in people who buy into the Democrat lie of stick it to corporations or whatever: WE, THE PEOPLE, will pay for it in higher prices, in higher taxes, and in lost jobs.
This idea is stupid. In cities people are running away in droves because city governments are inept in dealing with crime, they don't understand people are overtaxed, and they only care about lining their own pockets. Do the city leaders really think they are going to attract people when they charge them to park on their own darn street? Yet, they will push this and get it, and maybe see a spike in revenue for a year, only to see it vanish as people and businesses flee....Just like they have in Dayton, in Cincinnati, in Europe (love their arrogance in talking about Bush being evil, but yet our unemployment rate is falling, while theirs continues to stay high or even grow)... No vision leads to empty cities, just ask that moronic mayor Charlie Luken or even our idiotic governor who brings shame to the GOP, Bob Tax, er, Taft.
