Philippines Surrenders

From al-Reuters:
The Philippines said on Monday it would withdraw its troops from Iraq as soon as possible to save a Filipino hostage threatened with death by militants.

CNN quoted unidentified Philippine officials as saying they expected truck driver Angelo de la Cruz to be released on Tuesday, but no independent confirmation was available.

Matt's Chat

Another country joins the ranks of the surrendered. This makes the job harder on the rest of us, but we will continue to prevail in the War on Terror. These folks should have learned from Italy...don't give in to terror or they will take you for all you have. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but someday this will come back on them.

Note to al-Reuters: They aren't militants, they're terrorists. Get it right.

Mark's Remarks

What should have happened when Spain was hit and now with the Filipino situation is that the countries should have sent in MORE troops, to show the terrorists that hostage taking does not work. When you capitulate like these nations have, you are only giving credence to the notion of taking hostages. The proper recourse is to step up one's resistance and make it deadly to take hostages, make the evil ones suffer for their actions. Then, others will think twice before taking hostages. Nope, not in this age of appeasement, rather we simply talk it out and sing kum bayh yah.
