From BBC:
"As of this spring, there have been virtually no anti-war concerts - or anti-war songs that catch on, for that matter,"
- Sir Elton John
Matt's Chat
Well, Sir Elton, let me clear you up on a few things.First, in order for "censorship" to take place, the government must take action to silence dissent. That has not happened. And I insist that you prove your allegation. Or are you nothing more than a fear-mongering liberal, shaking like a hamster all the time? Just asking...
Second, the American people have the right to respond to those who have a different view than themselves. Its called Freedom of Speech. I am not required to buy Dixie Chicks albums just because they hate Bush. In fact, I have the right to choose to tell the Dixie Chicks to bugger off. America. I love it. Sir Elton, maybe you should learn a bit about our great nation before you look like a total idiot.
Third, this nation was attacked on September 11th. And the world changed for us. If it didn't change for you, it should have; but that is your perogative to put your head in the sand. Islamists want to kill all of us, Sir Elton, and that includes you. Some things ARE worth fighting for...America is one of them.
Mark's Remarks
Sir Elton's remarks are quite dumb. There has been no censorship by the government, and that is who censors. The idea that no protest albums are selling in the US or have been proliferated, well sir, that comes down to individual choice and the free market. You see, people in a capitalist society have the ability to choose what to buy. Makers of products gear what they make to the demands of the people. If there were a demand for anti-war songs, trust me, they would be piping them out. However, it seems many Americans don't want to hear it. That is their perogative, sir Elton. If you wish to make some screeds, have at it, but do not cry censorship when they do not sell.
