From My Way News (al-Reuters):
Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry said on Monday he would have voted for the congressional resolution authorizing force against Iraq even if he had known then no weapons of mass destruction would be found. So, really, Senator Kerry, which is it: was this war good or bad? Don't wait for the translation, answer me now! If you'd have voted for the war even without the WMD, why all the fuss that we haven't found them? Why haven't you criticized those who continue the "Bush lied" meme? Will your position be changing again prior to the election? Will a poll help make this decision for you?
Taking up a challenge from President Bush, whom he will face in the Nov. 2 election, the Massachusetts senator said: "I'll answer it directly. Yes, I would have voted for the authority. I believe it is the right authority for a president to have but I would have used that authority effectively."
The Kerry/Edwards campaign (hi Mr. Clanton and Mr. Singer) seem to have a knack for asking questions, maybe they should ask these of THEIR candidate. After all, we'd like to know which of Mr. kerry's positions is the real one.
3:50 PM Update
This is what John Kerry really wanted to say; instead, we get it from his national security advisor, Rand Beers:"It's time for the president to stop asking questions and to start giving the American people some answers.Hey, Rand, is your candidate ever going to give the american people a straight and consistent answer on anything? Just, you know, asking...
"Mr. President, knowing what you know now, do you still believe that you made no mistakes in how you took this country to war? Do you really have no regrets about sending many of our troops into battle without body armor to save their lives? Do you believe it was a mistake to invade Iraq without a plan to win the peace? Do you wish you had done things differently so our troops and the American people wouldn't have to bear the burden in Iraq almost alone?
"The issue has never been whether we were right to hold Saddam accountable, the issue is that we went to war without our allies, without properly equipping our troops and without a plan to win the peace. It's time for George W. Bush to come clean with the American people about his Iraq policy."
