Records

By Matt Hurley for the TIB Network:

Check this out:
In a telephone interview Tuesday evening after he attended a Swift Boat Veterans strategy session in an Arlington hotel, Thurlow said he lost his Bronze Star citation more than 20 years ago. He said he was unwilling to authorize release of his military records because he feared attempts by the Kerry campaign to discredit him and other anti-Kerry veterans.

The Post filed an independent request for the documents with the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis, which is the central repository for veterans' records. The documents were faxed to The Post by officials at the records center yesterday.
If I read this right, Thurlow did not authorize the release of his records; yet somehow through the Freedom of Information Act a newspaper was able to get the records anyway.

Question: why don't they do that for John Kerry's records? Just asking...

Update

It occured to me that I didn't address any of the "substance" of the rest of the article. I think the title of the article is a bit misleading. It gives the reader the impression that Thurlow has been discredited. He explains the discrepency in the article, so I think the jury is still out on this subject matter.

Another Update

Kevin at Wizbang has much, much more on this. And he's right, this article leaves more questions unasked than answers provided. Kevin lays out the case.

Correction of Another Update

The above references Kevin, but the post was actually authored by Paul. I wanted to correct the record. That is all.

Mark's Remarks

Most interesting...Rather than investigate the Swifties' claims on Mr. Kerry, the Big Media Attack Machine seems more content to attempt to investigate and dig up dirt on the Swifties, and paint them as something created by Republicans. Funny, I don't hear the same thing said about Dims and moveon.org, even though the moveon.org is supposed to a non-partisan 527. I don't hear the media screaming about investigating the relationship of Bill Richardson to 527s even as he is a democrat party official, or Harold Ickes involvement in ACT and being a central member of the Democrat committee. No, instead we try to make the leap that Bush is behind these ads because someone who supported him in the past also contributed to the Swifties. What about the dubvious and possibly illegal association of Democrat party officials and 527s? Party officials are not supposed to strategize or coordinate with 527s, yet we see that several party figures including the chair of the Convention are associated and officers of these 527s. Sounds dubious to me, but you don't hear about it do you? Nope, let's trash guys who we (the media) called baby killers and denigrated 30 years ago! Great work, morons! Why not investigate the claims and seek to disprove them, rather than try to censor these vets who bled for this nation, eh?

John Kerry Delenda Est!
