A Tale of Two First Families

By Mark for the TIB Network:

I've been watching some of the pre-convention programming, and I was taken with the distinction between the coverage by the press of the Bush family vs. the Clinton family. A gossip columnist was talking about how the Bushes needed to quit sheltering the Bush girls and actually "work with the media." The columnist then said all the media wanted to do was to get one quote, and that would do. The commentator interviewing the columnist asked about gotcha journalism of trying to portray the Bush girls in a negative light to get at the parents. The columnist said that is not the truth, that the press just wanted a quote or two, and that the Bush family needs to "work with" the media more and be more out there.

Compare that with the praise heaped on Hillary Clinton for sheltering Chelsea by the media. I distinctly remember the praise by the Partisan Press for Hillary preventing interviews with Chelsea, for asking the media to leave her alone. And guess what? The media left Chelsea alone. They did, and they praised the Clintons for trying to help Chelsea lead "a closer to normal life." I guess you are only allowed to protect your children if you are liberal.

But, really, there is no double standard in the media...um, yeah, right....

I'm Mark, thanks for reading.
