Should Iran Be Next?

The Case Against Iran

Editorial By Matt Hurley for the TIB Network:

There are five compelling reasons for selecting Iran as the next stage in the War on Terror Militant Islam: Iran's support of international terrorism, their development of Weapons of Mass Destruction and ballistic missiles, their human rights violations, their oppression of women, and the fact that Iran is a threat to the stability of the region.

International Terrorism

The Mad Mullahs of the Iranian regime have and continue to provide support and assistance to terrorist organizations around the world. Hezbollah, Hamas, and al Qaeda, to name just a few. Furthermore, they are providing assistance to the terrorists that are desperately trying to destabilize both Afghanistan and Iraq.

Read that last sentence again.

Iran is engaging in a shadow war with us already. Do we dare let a nation-state wage war on us as al Qaeda did for a decade? Shall we placate and appease a country whose leadership refers to America as the Great Satan? Can we afford risking a slow escalation of violence on the part of Iran as the clash of civilizations continue?

These are important questions.

Development of Weapons of Mass Destruction and Ballistic Missile Technology

The Mad Mullahs have learned from Saddam Hussein that they can play games with the inspections process. Iran continues to hide their true motivations and ambitions for their nuclear program. Also, Iran has made significant advances in their ballistic missile program capable of delivering their WMD payloads outside of the region. Add to that, Iran's ongoing chemical and biological weapons programs and you have an actor that presents a clear and present danger to the United States of America, the Middle East region, and the world.

Shall we trust the United Nations to act in good faith in light of the Oil for Food Terror scandal? Should Iran get the same twelve years Saddam got to perfect their weapons? Would further diplomacy work with a theocracy bent on reshaping the world in their image? Can we afford to trust in a prolonged and failed attempt at containment achieved via appeasement as an effective and reliable of radical Islamofascism?

These are important questions.

Gross and Continuing Violations of Individual Dignity and Human Rights

Iranians are prisoners in body, mind and spirit of the Mad Mullahs and their whims. The freedom we so casually take for granted is forbidden to the citizens of Iran. Individual liberty is a sweet dream for these people; one that surely must seem impossible to achieve in the reality of living under the Mad Mullahs.

Should (classically) liberal minded civilizations rationalize for and capitulate to people who treat their own citizens with such disdain? Have we not learned the lessons of what happens when holocausts, genocide, intolerance and bigotry are permitted to go unchecked on such a grand scale? Can we afford to allow Islamofascism such a stronghold?

These are important questions.

Oppression of Women

The world well knows the crimes that the Taliban regime inflicted upon the women of Afghanistan, however the plight of women in Iran is not well known. If the women of Iran were treated as second-class citizens that would be an improvement. From officially sanctioned rape to the treatment of women as property, the government of Iran is responsible for some of the worst conditions women face in the world.

How can civilized nations allow women to be treated this way? Is it appropriate to ignore the plight of women in Iran? What can be done to help the women of Iran? Can we afford to allow Islamofascists engage in the sort of sexism and prejudice that have no place in the civilized world?

These are important questions.

Iran's Threat to Regional Stability

Now that Saddam Hussein is out of power, Iran's Mad Mullahs are the greatest threat to the stability and security of the Middle East. The longer they are allowed to carry on with their efforts to spread their Islamist revolutionary ideology and their development of their military capabilities, the threat that Iran poses only grows stronger.

Wouldn't it be a catastrophic waste if Iran were able to take advantage of an opportunity to spread their particular brand Islamofascism to Iraq and the rest of the Middle East? Can we afford to allow another Taliban-like regime that sponsors terrorist organizations the prospect to develop and deploy nuclear, biological, chemical or radiological weapons?

These are important questions. And someone should start asking these questions to President Bush and Senator John Kerry as soon as possible.

John Kerry Delenda Est!
