As a senior Republican and committee chairman, his refusal to get pork has probably cost the district at least $100 million in lost funding over his 14 years.
It's a question as old as politics: Which is a politician's first priority: principles or people?
"It's very costly to county residents in lost opportunities," said Butler County Commissioner Mike Fox.
The money will just be spent in another district, the fellow Republican said.
"It's a philosophical shout in the dark. Might as well go out and howl at the moon," Fox said. "It doesn't affect spending in Congress one whit."
Gregory Jolivette, another GOP Butler County commissioner, said Boehner's refusal to get pork hurts his constituents.
"I'd like to see them fight like hell to cut down on (pork). But once the pie has been set, let's go get our slice," he said. "Until he gets more people to support his way of thinking, we're just chasing windmills."
John Boehner has principles and he's sticking to them...something you RINOs wouldn't know how to do if John wrote you a manual.
