Diplomacy with a Side of French Fries

By Matt for the TIB Network:

My WMD Mailbag correspondent also sent me this NYT story of which only the last paragraph is worth reading:
Mr. Chirac made clear to Mr. Bush on Monday night that the dialogue with Iran needed full international support, including that of the United States. France, like much of the European Union, has predicted that its initiative will fail unless the Bush administration is on board.
Emphasis added for those who don't know how to read the New York Times.

There is this interesting bit on the Israel/Palistinan situation that is mildly interesting, if only to show how WRONG France is on the subject.
France disapproves of the American approach that demands that the Palestinians embrace democratic change before there can be a concrete plan to press Israel as well. And although Mr. Chirac did not raise the issue on Monday evening, he told Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during her recent visit to Paris that there should be an international conference to jump-start the peace effort.
If there isn't a Palestinian government of the people by the people, they will get another Arafat destroying their chances for a peaceful life and a real shot at prosperity. Democracy is a key ingrediant to getting this thing done. France, if this article is correctly illustrating their position, is wrong again.

By all means read the whole thing... You'll discover that France doesn't really agree with the United States on much of anything: not Syria, not China, not Iraq, not Iran, not Middle East peace...the list goes on and on...but these guys are our "allies" and remember that if John Kerry were president today, France would have the lead in everything the United States does. [Shudder]

Pleasant dreams...
