By Matt for the TIB Network:
Hannity is having a conversation with some caller about the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon. Basically, the issue is this: was the Pentagon a legitimate target? Hannity says no. I say yes. This will come as a surprise to some...let me try to explain.
When the US military bombs military targets, do we care if the people in those facilities are innocent? If we follow Hannity's logic, we would have to take that in to consideration.
Was the attack justified? No. But that doesn't mean that the Pentagon isn't a legitimate military target.
However, the Islamofascists aren't really all that interested in fighting this war by any sort of rules, so this discussion is rendered somewhat academic at any rate...
Mark's Remarks
Initially, I was a bit upset with Matt. But he is right. Hannity, in his way, is right as well. Hannity let his emotion get in the way of his logic. The people on the planes were innocent, and were not legitimate targets. The weapon was not a legitimate weapon, it was a civilian transport. However, the Pentagon as a target is entirely logical militarily. However, if the terrorists would know anything about our military, they would know trashing the Pentagon, while not good for us, would not have done a whole lot to command and control. If destroyed, it would have caused panic, but it would not have destroyed command and control.
However, Matt, in his own way, has some flawed logic. These targets were not chosen militarily, as in executing a strategy at taking out an enemy's abilities. They were used for sheer terror. That is what makes it illegitimate. While I disagree as well with Hannity that the Pentagon is not a legitimate military target; that is not why the terrorists hit it. They hit it to cause terror.
And, let me say, Hannity's assumptions about Churchill are right on. The man is a cowardly scumbag who hides behind the law even while trashing the nation which defends those laws. He hides behind civil liberties even while trashing the nation which upholds them and seeks to extend them to more across the globe. The man is a total waste.
