A correspondent sent me a link to this piece on Yahoo News that is supposed to be some sort of "round up" of the media sins committed by the Bush administration. What's missing from this story is the media's sins. Dan Rather's usage of forged and fake memos in order to try to bring down the administration days before an election. Eason Jordan's slander of the American military is missing from this story. The fake stories printed by the New York Times (Blair) and USA Today (Kelly) don't get a mention.
Journalism in America is screwed up. The adminsitration needs to get its message out. The media doesn't seem interested in reporting, you know, the news...if the administration feels it needs to get around the news filter that is our media, I have no problem with that at all.
Mark's Remarks
Maybe the Bush White House would be more forthcoming with the media if they, like, you know, reported the news as opposed to slanting it. Maybe, just maybe, they would be more open if the media wouldn't broadcast secrets to the enemy. You see, unlike the Clinton Admin:"yeah, we got UBL's cell phone broadcasts." and then wonder why he changes cellphones and how he found out after his admin broadcast their 'mastery' over UBL; this admin will not talk until it has something to talk about.
Unlike previous administrations, and you can read about the attitudes in Kessler's "A Matter of Character" (which I reviewed recently), this administration is not made up of people seeking publicity or to pad their resume...it is made of people who have faith in the man and his vision, who feel a duty not to providing news fodder but to getting results.
