Palestinian Islamist militant movement Hamas said that it was not bound by the ceasefire announced by Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas at a Middle East peace summit in Egypt. There you have it, folks. Abbas has no control over these groups...and when one of them attacks, Israel will retaliate. There will be no peace until the Palestinians can get their act together. Do they want peace? I don't think so, but your mileage may vary...
Abbas's declaration "expresses only the position of the Palestinian Authority. It does not express the position of the Palestinian movements," said Hamas spokesman Mushir al-Masri.
In Beirut, Hamas spokesman Osama Hamdaneh said the ceasefire pledge "does not commit the Palestinian resistance."
Mark's Remarks
These terror groups are just like government bureaucrats. They don't want their existence to end. They want to keep on fighting and terrorizing, even as the Palestinians are getting a country, and there does appear a chance for peace. They care only for their own self-interest, namely that THEY are not in total control, rather than Abbas heading up the PA. They do not want peace, they want domination. Rather than agreeing to the ceasefire with caution, they throw away the chance at meaningful peace with this talk. I hope Abbas wises up and takes them out. They are a huge impediment. If Abbas wants peace, if the people of Palestine want peace, they must disavow and turn in these terrorists.
