They Issue A Memo!

By Mark for the TIB Network:

From News24.com
United Nations peacekeepers in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have been barred from having sex with locals after reports of sexual abuse of girls as young as 13, the United Nations announced.

In a letter to the Security Council, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan said the "non-fraternisation" policy had been put in place along with a curfew for military contingents and other measures in the African nation.

"We cannot tolerate even one instance of a United Nations peacekeeper victimising the most vulnerable among us," Annan said on Wednesday in his letter. He expressed "personal outrage" at the DRC revelations.

A report last month by the UN's internal watchdog said that personnel in Monuc, as the UN's DRC peace operation is known, had sex with girls in exchange for eggs, packets of milk or cash sums as little as $1.

Mark's Remarks

It goes without saying that the people who perpetrated these crimes are absolutely disgusting people. However, what does the mighty UN do? It issues a memo! Woohoo! Yeehah!!! Now that's showin' em!

Do we want an organization such as this to run things in Iraq? I mean, they are allowing genocide and have allowed genocide in Rwanda for years, (even when the mighty Clinton and thatgreat hero Wes Clark was in charge)and there have been allegations of sexual abuse all over the UN's colonial empire, whoops, I mean peacekeeping efforts around the globe. Isn't it great what the UN does with problems? More useless and toothless papers! Yeehah!!! So much better than bringing liberty and justice and a new hope to people, let's just send memos!!!

Insta-Update!

Hat tip to Glenn Reynolds, the Instapundit:
From ABC News:
Widespread allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse of Congolese women, boys and girls have been made against U.N. personnel who were sent to help and protect them — despite a so-called zero tolerance policy touted by the United Nations toward such behavior.

The range of sexual abuse includes reported rapes of young Congolese girls by U.N. troops; an Internet pedophile ring run from Congo by Didier Bourguet, a senior U.N. official from France; a colonel from South Africa accused of molesting his teenage male translators; and estimates of hundreds of underage girls having babies fathered by U.N. soldiers who have been able to simply leave their children and their crimes behind.

Read more of these great peacekeepers and the UN's oversight here. Read the whole disgusting story, and think what Didier and the boys might be doing if we let the UN run Iraq. Think what kind of insurgency that would create...just honestly think about it...Read it, read every single word....

I understand this was a piece on 20/20 tonight....Gee, you think the MSM is finally listening to bloggers and their concerns with the travesty that is the UN? Could they finally, like, you know, be holding the UN slightly accountable? A little late to become responsible, but at least they occaisionally try.

Islamofascism Delenda Est!
