Another from the WMD Mailbag...this time the piece written by uber-liberal Sidney Blumenthal is from the Guardian, that bastion of "independent" journalism from the UK. The article is about the Gannon/Guckert non-story, but there is a bit near the end that I want to address:The Bush White House is the most opaque - allowing the least access for reporters - in living memory. Every news organisation has been intimidated, and reporters who have done stories the administration finds discomfiting have received threats about their careers. The administration has its own quasi-official state TV network in Fox News; hundreds of rightwing radio shows, conservative newspapers and journals and internet sites coordinate with the Republican apparatus.I demand that Mr. Blumenthal, a Bill Clinton senior advisor, provide proof of this vast right wing conspiracy.
FOX News is an indpenedent news organization. The state has nothing to do with their operations. There is no relationship between FNC and the administration quasi-official, official, or otherwise. I demand to see proof otherwise.
Conservative talk shows, by far, are not under the control of the administration. They tangle with the administration all the time if Mr. Blumenthal would care to listen. I recall most conservative talkers denouncing the Medicare package and President Bush's immigration policies to name just two... I demand to see proof of Mr. Blumenthal's assertion.
Which conservative papers, journals and web sites are under the control of HALLIBURTON! and the vast right wing conspiracy? Prove it, Mr. Blumenthal, if you have the balls.
Blumenthal doesn't have the proof because there is NO CONSPIRACY.
