Socialized Medicine Update

Check out these wait times for various procedures in the utopia of Canada:
he report says that the median wait time for total hip replacement surgery in our LHIN is 16 weeks, compared to 24 for Ontario -- the lowest in the province. The report also says that 71 per cent of patients were able to get their operations within the recommended wait time of 25 weeks.

For knees, the median wait time locally is 26 weeks compared to 33 for Ontario, with a recommended wait time of 25 weeks. Here, 50 per cent of patients got surgery within the recommended time, compared to 40 per cent for Ontario.

Patients here waited six weeks for cataract surgery, compared to 16 for Ontario, and 65 per cent received it within the recommended waiting time of four months.

Similar trends were noted for three out of four types of cancer surgeries. All figures were not available Wednesday, but the report indicated that local patients waited 25 days for a large bowel resection, just under the Ontario median time of 26 days. For mastectomy operations, the local time was 19 days compared to 29, and the wait was 72 days for a radical prostatectomy, compared to 87 for Ontario.

Locally however, the median wait time for hysterectomy operations was 56 days, the longest in Ontario where the overall figure is 46 days.

The only cardiac procedure done in this LHIN is at Hotel-Dieu Grace, which performs angiograms -- a diagnostic procedure to check blockage of arteries. That lab will be closed all month while it is equipped with new machinery and remodelled.

All other cardiac patients are sent to London or elsewhere. The report shows that local heart patients can wait for three days for an urgent angiography, and 21 for an elective diagnosis. The Ontario time is 24 days.
Oh yeah...where do I sign up for this kind of quality, on-time care? And the best part...it's all for "free" if you know what I mean...

Mark's Remarks

Yep, love that socialized medicine....Reagan talked about it 30 years ago on the radio (Reagan in His Own Voice, CD), and it still holds true. Despite the cute rosy comments from little Frenchman PvP, the French and Belgian immigrants whom I know tell me that the health system over there, while "free", (of course, they pay out the wazoo in taxes, I wonder if PvP has some great tax shelter he hides his money in?)is not that great. Of course, they must be spies or plants by the evil conservatives, meanwhile, the "Progressives" like PvP and others allow and encourage people to be starved to death in the name of "compassion."
