I don't think this is a good time to be supporting Sen. Mike DeWine, but that's exactly what Ken Blackwell did this weekend. State of the Union reports that Blackwell endorsed DeWine at the annual DeWine ice cream social.
What sort of political move is this? Clearly Blackwell is going to need support of some moderates after he wins the nomination. Will supporting DeWine now, rather than later, hurt his chances? Probably not. Although DeWine's disasterous betrayal on judges is still fresh in a LOT of Republicans' minds, DeWine has already seen that The Deal has cost him. Will supporting DeWine now, rather than later, help Blackwell? Probably. DeWine needs support right now, Blackwell will need support later. It's a win/win move for Blackwell as it softens his image a bit.
Having said all that, I still don't like it...I understand it, but I don't like it.
