At a press conference today at 3:00 p.m. ET in the field-level interview room at Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati Reds general manager Dan O'Brien will announce Jerry Narron as interim field manager for the remainder of the 2005 season. This was a LONG time in coming...
Narron replaces Dave Miley, who earlier today was relieved of his duties along with pitching coach Don Gullett.
Through the end of this season, Vern Ruhle will assume Gullett's duties as pitching coach.
1:50PM Update
It's getting out of hand now...I can just see him saying, "Well, you know, there's an opening..."
Mark's Remarks
When asked if he were interested, Bob McEwen said, "that's all I need, yet another dolt pulling my strings in O'Brien...."
and then he went back to Virginia to work as a scout for the DC Lobbyists.
Seriously, Dave Miley was a great MINOR league manager. His future lies there. Guys in the majors do not need a MINOR league manager. They need someone like Sparky. They need someone like Lou Pinella. Sadly, the Reds will get neither.
Next, the Reds need to gut the corner outfield spots. Jason Romano is hitting like crazy in the minors and would add speed and actual defense to the lineup as a short fix. We need to dump some of the "selective" and "five tool potential" prospects for pitching.
