While many eyes are already watching key U.S. Senate races in 2006, there are also crucial governors contests in Colorado, Minnesota, and especially in Ohio, the key to the president's victory in 2004, and perhaps the key to 2008 as well.

Which is why bloggers will be paying a lot of attention to Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell's campaign. Blackwell is a conservative, very personable and smart, and already the consensus choice of the GOP pros. There's a lot of wreckage around the Buckeye State right now, and though Dems are betting fallout from a contributions scandal will hamper the GOP, the nomination of Blackwell will put huge energy into the center-right base, and a promise of energy and new ideas in Columbus when he takes office.

Blackwell's campaign is a good place to start your investments in the 2006 elections.
