It is being proposed in Arizona. Sort of.
State Representative Pamela Gorman wants to build a structure on the border that would make it much harder for illegal immigrants to gain entry into the United States. The price tag? About a million and a half dollars per mile. There are about 400 miles on the Arizona-Mexico border. Total: $600 million.
The entire US-Mexico border is about 1,400 miles long. Why not do the entire border for $21 billion?
I'm serious.
The 2003 budget request included $50 billion dollar requests to fund advancements in information technology at the federal government alone.
The 2006 budget has the total Homeland Security budget at $37 billion. I'm not saying we should raid the entire budget for Homeland Security, but I find it hard to believe we couldn't squeeze $21 billion out of all the pork-laden legislation that has been passed in the last four years?
How much did that new Medicare Prescription Benefit cost us again?
Say, how long have they been working on the Big Dig in Boston? Did all that money get appropriated in a single year?
This isn't rocket science (NASA got 16.2 billion in 2005), but surely we can find a way to make this a reality.
Mark's Remarks
What we need to do, is to limit the friggin social welfare spending around the world to nations that hate us and instead worry about sealing the porous borders here. Look, I love the fact that this President wants to help stop AIDS in Africa. However, can't we first protect our shores? I mean, for 21 billion, we could put a few dollars from the Africa fund in the wall fund, couldn't we?
Better yet...let's stop giving to the UN and build it. Sell the UN building after evicting those clowns, and use the profits to build the wall.....I LIKE THAT IDEA! LET'S DO IT!
