The Forty Year Old Virgin
This is a wonderful new comedy starring Steve Carell. Definitely a one-joke premise, but the variations on the theme keep it going for 1 hr. 56 min.
Andy Stitzer (Steve Carell), a mild mannered inventory clerk for an electronics store, has had trouble with the ladies – not that he hasn’t tried, but has yet to succeed. Oh … and yeah, he is 40, too – hence the name. When his coworkers get wind of Andy’s problem, they offer ridiculous advice and go all out to help Andy remedy his issue. Andy, not knowing any better, follows his friend’s advice and learns the hard way what NOT to do. Finally, after many mishaps and chest hair lost (this scene brought a frightful tear to my eye), Andy gets up the courage to pursue the one woman he connected with, Trish (Catherine Keener). Andy and Trish keep little secrets from each other that turn out to be quite a surprise to each other. They work it all out and find happiness together.
This is DEFINITELY one of the most enjoyable movies I have seen in a long time. The plot hangs a bit too long when Andy’s friends are giving him advice – a lot of derogatory things said about dating (we get the point, already). That is my only complain as there are laughs to the end of the film. I highly recommend seeing this movie – especially if you have any friends that really need to get out!! Take them to see this!!!
