Book Review: Take Comfort and Solace

I just recently finished reading Take Comfort and Solace... A Call To Action by William G. Pierce, P.E.. In this book, Mr. Pierce outlines his struggles, trials, and tribulations dealing with the Federal Government, and in particular the Department of Labor. His 17 year struggle has taken its toll on his business, his family, and his home. His struggles are something that no person should ever have to go through. In his book, he details the hypocrisy, the double standards, the bureaucratic red tape, and the struggles that a small business has to go through when dealing with the government. He has engaged various elected officials to help him in his cause, and has met with varying levels of failure.

The book itself tells you the story of Mr. Pierce, from his early high school days, through college, his marriage, the start of his business, and the ultimate demise of the business as a result of the government. It is laid out in a very logical order. Mr. Pierce provides multiple details of his long ordeal. While some of the details are very technical, Mr. Pierce presents them in such a manner that you are able to understand it. At the end of the book, Mr. Pierce gives a brief civics lesson, presenting the reader with the responsibilities of the different branches of government. In the appendices, you get some more perspective on the situation from his wife, and a couple of other people. In the last appendix, Mr. Pierce provides a detailed section of links and methods for contacting the people who represent us in government.

Overall this book is a good read. I would definitely recommend it to those interested in learning about how our government works. I would definitely also recommend it to those who want to find out more about Mr. Pierce. Mr. Pierce is running in the Ohio primary against Senator Mike Dewine in 2006.

I had the opportunity to be able to sit down and listen to Mr. Pierce talk last month. He has a very engaging personality. He explained that his desire to run for Senate is not to try and get back at the Department of Labor or some of the officials who were not able to help him, but instead is a genuine interest in trying to reform the system and also to try and make sure that other small business owners will have a voice when dealing with similar problems. I liked the fact that his interest in running seemed genuine. I also like the fact that he did not talk like a politician. Both of those things raise his view in mind greatly. I would ask that you keep an open mind, and really get to know Mr. Pierce through his website or his blog before voting for him in the primary in 2006.
