Big News in Redsland

The Cincinnati Reds fired general manager Dan O'Brien and didn't immediately name a successor. From MLB.com/Cincinnati Reds.com:
The first major change was made during the brief Bob Castellini ownership of the Reds on Monday.
Castellini, whose purchase of the team was approved Thursday, dismissed general manager Dan O'Brien. A replacement has not been named, but director of baseball operations Brad Kullman will take over as interim general manager.

The Reds and Castellini plan to hold a 5 p.m. ET press conference at Great American Ball Park. The new owner informed O'Brien about his decision Monday morning.

"I want someone in this job who is my choice," said Castellini in a statement. "I told Dan he has worked hard and has worked diligently to rebuild the farm system and scouting department of the Reds and that we appreciate his efforts."
this is a smart move. The Reds should have hired Omar Minaya when they had the chance to be their general manager.

The club stunk badly under O'Brien. He fired Dave Miley, which I didn't think was responsible and replaced him with a flunky, Jerry Narron. Look for Narron to be gone in short order...

Starting pitching is and always was the problem with this club. Until we get somebody who can make the blockbuster deal to change the situation, the Reds will continue to be a mediocre team at best.

Redleg Nation agrees with my assessment that Narron isn't going to be feeling real good about his future.

8:30PM Update

Boy am I slow...LargeBill had this around noontime today... Yes, he agrees that Narron is in trouble. Two words were mentioned: Lou Pinella. Man, I like the sound of that...
