What Does Iraq Have to Do With Agriculture?

From the Cincinnati Enquirer:
Speaking of travel, Rep. Jean Schmidt, R-Miami Township, who was elected in August, was set to depart for a weeklong trip to Iraq on Sunday where she'll meet with U.S. soldiers - hopefully some from Ohio - and talk to U.S. officials about the progress of the war. She'll return Jan. 18.

Unlike privately funded travel, this trip was organized by the House Agriculture Committee and is being paid for with public money.
Emphasis added.

Uhh...what does Iraq have to do with American agriculture?

Mark's Remarks

OK, this comes straight from Jean Schmidt, via her clonetwin sister, Jennifer:
The Iraqi people have to go back to an agricultural soiety, and will need assistance in planning for agriculture and in getting good techniques and expertise in farming on such a large scale, and who better to help than the United States, who feeds the world with only five percent of its population farming?

That was the gist of it. It really did make some sense, but I was too incensed with the whole central committee and endrosement thing to really take it down word for word.

Oh, by the way, Jean spent her first day running with Marines, as she is a marathon runner. Her sister said, "what an honor for them to have a member of Congress right there with them, and the access"....um, no, ma'am, what an honor for the Congresswoman to be running with heroes!
