McEwen on the Management of America's Ports

From the McEwen campaign via the WMD Mailbag:
Anderson Township- Bob McEwen called for the White House and the Treasury Department to reconsider allowing a company based in the United Arab Emirates to gain control of the company managing six of the largest ports in the United States.

“At a time when America is spending billions of dollars to secure our nation, it seems risky in the extreme to now hand our most valuable assets to foreigners. With American soldiers daily taking casualties in this war, to now turn our ships and harbors over to Middle Eastern companies for protection cries out for someone in Washington to think first of American security and American jobs,” McEwen said.

McEwen added, “For any nation to allow another nation to manage its ports of entry is just asking for trouble. It would be like having a Soviet satellite nation managing our ports during the Cold War. I am pleased to see a coalition of Senators and Congressmen from both parties question this policy.”

Former Congressman McEwen, along with Vice-President Cheney, served on the House Select Committee on Intelligence, which oversees all such agreements.

McEwen is eager to return to the Congress and demand some common sense in decisions such as these. He is currently a candidate for the Republican nomination for the Second Congressional District.
This is a serious issue worth examining. Do I think it is a significant campaign issue? Not really...
