McEwen Proposes Presidential Veto

From the WMD Mailbag from the McEwen campaign:
Anderson Township- Former Congressman Bob McEwen today expressed his support for giving the President of the United States line-item veto authority as a tool for curbing Federal spending.

McEwen stated, “Monday, President Bush asked Congress to enact legislation giving him line-item veto authority. Currently, a President must veto an entire piece of legislation affording the Congress the leverage to include items that standing alone would be found highly objectionable. The line-item veto would empower the President to return individual spending proposals for separate consideration by the Congress. Such vetoes could be overturned as in the current manner, buy a supportive vote by 2/3rd of both Houses. The Line-Item Veto would merely require a vetoed spending measure to stand on its merits alone and not be permitted to piggy back on necessary spending measures. The Congress has become highly skilled in log rolling expenditures that standing alone would never be approved by either house let alone by the President. However, by adding pet projects to mandatory expenditures billions of wasted dollars are enacted into law.

“The line-item veto can be a vital means in controlling spending. I strongly support giving our Presidents this authority. Nearly every State Governor has this authority, and I see no reason why the Chief Executive should not have this same power at the Federal level,” the former Congressman said.

McEwen, whose previous voting record earned him a lifetime favorable rating of 95% from the American Conservative Union, added, “The explosion in earmarking specific expenditures outside the normal funding procedures, invites several negative consequences. First, these projects add to our deficit. Secondly, they do not undergo the necessary scrutiny to determine the overall merit. Finally, this recent explosion in earmarked expenditures is eroding the public’s trust in the political system.”

Bob McEwen is a candidate for the Republican nomination for the Second Congressional District. He has served six terms in Congress, where he was selected by his colleagues to serve on the powerful House Rules Committee that has jurisdiction over all legislation in the Congress. He is currently a senior advisor with the law firm of Greenebaum, Doll, & McDonald. He and his wife, Liz, volunteer as speakers at Family Life Marriage Conferences throughout the United States and Canada.
Once again, Bouncin' Bob is trying to capitalize on other people's work. Bob isn't "proposing" anything here. The President proposed a limited line-item veto and it appears that there is support for it so Bouncin' Bob wants to confuse the voter into believing it was his idea. Is anybody buying that?

Mark's Remarks

I am sure this is a tactic he teaches the young heads full of mush that come to his Amway speaking engagements, or whatever doubledodeckahedron pyramid selling organizaiton he aligns himself with.

Bob McEwen: How to take the sweat of others and make it your own idea. This guy stinks to high heaven. He is merely in this for the avarice of his own ego. He wants to clear up his "legacy." He never had a shot with Rob Portman in office, he was too connected and clean. However, with neophyte Jeane Schimdt, he smells blood in the water. It is not about helping Ohioans, it is probably about Bouncin' Bob helpin himself to more of OUR money.
