WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) highlighted another month of strong job creation announced by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) this morning. DOL announced that 138,000 jobs were created in April, for a total of more than 5.3 million new jobs since August 2003. Unemployment remained low at 4.7 percent - lower than the average of the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.This has needed to be said by leadership for quite some time. It still want get any media coverage, but the more statements like these get issued the better the chances that it will at some point.
"With more than two million new job opportunities in the last year alone, low unemployment, and high consumer confidence, the resiliency of our strong and growing economy continues to defy Democrat critics desperate for bad news.
"House Republicans will build on our economic progress by extending the tax cuts that have refueled and rejuvenated our economy, securing America's energy future and addressing high gasoline prices, and ensuring that working families have access to affordable health care. The last thing the American people need right now is a massive tax increase that Capitol Hill Democrats have in store for working families."
Republican pro-growth policies continue to foster sustained economic growth, and robust tax revenues flooding the coffers of the federal government are working to reduce the deficit. Yesterday, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) announced it anticipates a sharp reduction in the FY 2006 deficit as a result of greater-than-expected tax revenues. The agency estimates the deficit will be below $350 billion - perhaps as low as $300 billion.
