Syria Crushes Dissent, Dems Thinking Good Idea?

The Syrians are arresting pro-democracy activists. Here is the scoop from FT.com:
Syrian authorities have detained a prominent writer and government opponent in a continuing crackdown on dissidents. The writer, Michel Kilo, had been involved in drawing up a petition calling for a halt to his country's interference in Lebanon, from where it withdrew its troops last year after a nearly 30-year presence.

The petition appeared on the eve of the introduction last Friday by the US, France and Britain of a draft resolution in the United Nations Security Council calling on Syria to respect Lebanon's sovereignty. The draft resolution urges Damascus among other things to demarcate the border between the two countries and to exchange ambassadors.

However, the Dems won't mention this. Syria is a good dictatorship. God forbid we put pressure on them to release this guy, or to respect Lebanon. No, what we need is dialogue. WE need to send Maddy Albright over to have champagne with Assad so we can have rosy pictures with no substance like our North Korean policy under Bubba. We need dialogue, not action. Ummm...how bout, NO!

Syria must be held accountable. I believe what we are doing in Afghanistan and Iraq is causing these dissidents to take heart. We should be giving them as much support as possible, like when Reagan and Co. supported the Solidarity movement in Poland, and in other quarters. This leads to collapse from within. See, that is a proven winning strategy, something the Left knows nothing about.

I pray for this man and his family, and all those prisoners for freedom Syria has rounded up. I pray for their safe return.
