In May, Blackwell ended the TEL controversy by giving in to the mainstream of the party and taking the issue off the table. This now appears to be a massive blunder. Blackwell’s problem is not being too extreme, it’s being too close to the mainstream of his party. Columbus is toxic, and by making nice with Columbus, Blackwell assumed the mantle of Columbus.Exactamundo, Dave! You got it exactly right.
When Blackwell gave up on TEL, a proposal that a significant majority of Ohioans supported, in order to try to "reach out" to the so-called "moderates" in the "establishment" wing of the Ohio GOP, he managed to deal away his advantage. Blackwell won the primary because he hada plan for Ohio, but the "establishment" wing of the Ohio GOP still can't figure out that a Blackwell loss is actually a bad thing for the entire party... Near as I can tell, about 20% of so-called Republicans are actually supporting
Should Blackwell lose this election, it will be the fault of the "moderate" and "establishment" wing of the party...and I for one, will not let them forget it.
