An AP News Alert from last night indicated that the leader of the coup said that the overthrow of the prime minister was needed to "end intense conflicts" in Thailand. And I can't think of a better way to end intense conflicts than to engage in an intense conflict...
The news this morning isn't all that encouraging either.
There will be a new "temporary" constitution enacted in Thailand within two weeks and there is a "general election" scheduled for October...of 2007... Something tells me that the temporary will become permenant and the general election will elect a General...military coups tend to work out that way.
Meanwhile, ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is headed to London for a private visit. He should arrive today to begin his exile...
